A little bit worrying, though I am a hypochondriac lol.

On the plus side though, the planet is grossly over populated so - as horrible as it must be for anyone to lose a loved one - a big percentage of the human population disappearing and relieving the stretch on the earths resources isn't a bad thing.

Film & TV / Re: [REC]

I haven't seen Quarantine, but I would recommend [REC] to everyone, so long as you don't mind subtitles. In my opinion it's far more effective than Cloverfield and is generally scary at times.

[spoiler:yak8c5l1]The scariest bit for me is when they look down the staircase and theres "infected" people on every level making their way up. AAAAGH!![/spoiler:yak8c5l1]

Quote from: "Krombasher"Weeell, see, technically speaking it still is brilliant because he's restrained from over detailing it, satisfied us with a glimpse at what's going on in the ward, but the drive is to see what is Hershey's reaction. And it's like Oh. My. God!You don't need My in there. It's just a reference to those who are speaking and gives the pace of intensity. You could just say... OH. God! same thing but less personal touch given. I think the linework is great and close to sketchy as his style can get during the continuity of the story.

Those who can't...Teach.

Well, I'm not going to argue because I'd be repeating myself and opinion on whether something is good or not isn't something you can change with logic. I would however say that there seems to me to be far more effective ways of acheiving what you've just described.... but that doesn't mean there's a right or wrong way to draw.

Really good stuff. It does all look a bit flat but I'm presuming thats deliberate from the strength of line etc. The colouring on the sequentials is particularly nice.

Quote from: "Krombasher"Ah, the bed scene. See, I see that cinematically, as a sweeping reference to reactions to the results. Not an important picture as the dialogue or script is making the issue. The important one is Hershey's reaction. Which is moving to say the least.

That's my opinion anyway. Sorry if it comes in a bit strong armed on my last post.

It's fine, we all have our opinions lol.

I was just trying to point out that I'm talking from a technical point of view rather than design, layout etc. As I mentioned, Critchlows always been one of my favourites artists, next to S.B.Davis.

Quote from: "Krombasher"I think your illustration tutor needs a lesson in sequential story telling rather than, one beautiful illustrative picture love.

We're actually doing a sequential project at the minute, but thanks anyway.

Quote from: "macabremag"Plus, I don't know what it's like in other towns but here you do more or less have to find the comic yourself, it tends to get buried behind the Doctor Whos and the Buffy The Vampire Slayers etc. I can't imagine many people would buy it if they hadnt already been aware of it.

Down here, of the three nwsagents that I go into regularly, all three stock it. Smiths holds between 4 and 6 copies on the shelf, next to the Megazine and on the shelf between the Titan Trek/ Stargate/ Torchwood mags in front, and the Panini Marvel Colectors Editions behind. Interestingly (especially for the Paninis) this is down an aisle and round a corner from the 'comics' section. I'm not sure what the perceived difference is between comics for kids and 'Fantastic Four Adventures'/ 'Wolverine & Deadpool', etc, but there you go.

The other two shops also have a copy on the shelf, but in both places, on a higher shelf from the 'comics', usually tucked alongside Bizarre, or Nuts.

And yes, like any true headcase, I seem to spend a disproportionate amount of time, in shops, "browsing' and subtely rearranging shelves so the prog and the Meg are prominent.

Sigh.

Steev

Well, you're doing your bit if nothing else!

2000AD is actually quite difficult to find where I live. Only one shop in the town stocks it. The one near me stopped in about 1993. I can only presume this is because of the small target audience compared to everything else.

It will be interesting to see if they attempt to follow on from the original or if it will be a complete reboot.

To be honest, I have no quelms with his helmets or even character designs in that issue. I'm commenting more on the execution of it all, especially the inking. I swear, the middle panel on the last page is one of the worst things I've ever seen in 2000AD.

Quote from: "WoD"I thought his work on Dredd has been brilliant and well suited to the strip which surprised me a little.

I don't know what his work has been like up to this issue but it just looks very badly drawn to me, for him. Figures look unfinished and the quality of line is just awful. It looks like a strip he didn't have much time to do. And I don't mean to be harsh or anything, it's just my critical view of the artwork, I'm a big fan of Critchlow, usually.

I would like to point out to anyone visiting the thread that I DID postface it with "according to ABC figures", which I've now provided a link to, so it's not like I was claiming they were 100% reliable... they just happen to be the only recent figures I was able to find anywhere, though I'm sure I've seen the number repeated in an interview with Matt somewhere in the last few days.

And also.... it was only for a bloody Uni project, anyway.

Quote from: "SpookyTheCat"Which I don't understand. They, what? basically asked Panini and DC Thompson what they thought 2000ad sells? And because people like to reserve it, newsagents don't put it onto the shelves? "Hmm- three people like this enough to have a regular order, so obviously nobody else who comes in our shop would possibly ever like it enough to just buy it"? Is that the logic?

I know, it's ridiculous. I worked in a WH Smiths for a while around 7-8 years ago and it was more or less the same then, a lot of stuff didn't see the light of day.

Plus, I don't know what it's like in other towns but here you do more or less have to find the comic yourself, it tends to get buried behind the Doctor Whos and the Buffy The Vampire Slayers etc. I can't imagine many people would buy it if they hadnt already been aware of it.

Does anyone else think Critchlows work on this Dredd is shocking? :/ I've loved all his stuff in the past, but I dived into this prog today after taking some 2000AD time off and his art for Dredd seems really lazy. Bad line work and it looks more like hes taken a series of sketches to full presentation standard rather than actually drawing a strip.

My illustration tutor at Uni took a look at the issue and said "why have they employed someone who can't draw?", which he wouldn't have done had he seen his Lobster Random work, but this seems far from his best work to me. I'm actually surprised at how much praise the art for that strip has been getting..... but then maybe I've just been hearing about the techniques and identifying features of "professional standard" artwork for too long!

The results I found were for 2006/2007/2008, and it's listed by Rebellion.

I also saw the 20,000 figure somewhere else, I think it was on the IGN.com article.
