Just been speaking to my missus on the phone. We live in Walthamstow, NE London, and Jules was ringing to tell me that our road had been blocked off both ends this morning, that there was about 20 armed police up and down our street and that what looked like a bomb disposal unit had entered a house practically opposite ours. She doesn't know anymore than this but the police have now gone and there didn't seem to be any arrests.

Jules is stuck at home with our two boys and I am starting to get more and more certain that we have to move out of London. If we do i daresay I'll still have to commute in through Liverpool Street but I think my mind is made up now.

skurvy

oops, this should have been on the "it's happening again thread".

Oddboy

Nah Skurvy - it's best to put new threats on a new thread, certainly more people will check it quicker.

It saddens me that you feel that you have to move away from London because of this.
Better set your phaser to stun.

Oddboy - if it was just myself and my girlfriend I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue but as we have two young boys our protective (over protective) side is winning out. It's weird, since I've been a father I can see myself getting more and more right wing about these issues, scary really.

Marbles

gotta say as a relatively new dad (18mth old girl) I feel the same as you skurvy. we moved out of london to Hampshire a year ago & the commute is worth it just to know my wife & child are ok.
Remember - dry hair is for squids

Oddboy

Ah well - I was planning on leaving London when it's time to produce Oddspring... but it's still saddening that terrorists are tipping the balance.

LARF

Skurve - as Irony would have it, my fiances sister lives opposite the flat in Tulse Hill that they raided last week and followed the unfortunate Brazillian guy from.

Just been on the news that police have taken away explosive substances from a flat in North London, this the place near your gaff?

skurvy

Larf, Not sure as yet. I'm at work so am getting info second hand. Latest I know is that the police have gone but have left one policeman positioned outside the house (apparently 2 coppers turned up with fish and chips for him a while ago). Jules is going to try and have a chat with him soon to found out what's been happening.

Max Kon

You're letting them win!!

skurvy

Max, probably haven't explained myself properly. We actually wanted to move out of London anyway for reasons that I never thought would have been an issue eg. quality of schools, crime, general living conditions in London etc. These all became important once I became a dad (my eldest is 2 1/2) and I became 'responsible'. The recent happenings are really only extra reasons and may accelerate things a bit. I still intend to work and socialise in central London I just don't want Charlie and Danno to live here.

If I was single with no kids I'd probably think the same as you.

Oddboy

Also - they're not really winning are they?

I'm sure Skurvy will continue to live a decadant western lifestyle out in the sticks!

Skurvy, you have a child called Danno?
That's pretty cool.

Does anyone else have children whose names echo American cop shows?

Twins called Starsky and Hutch?
;-)

We're only going to Essex, so it will decadant, tasteless but decadent. In fact we were looking at houses there recently and I saw a couple of girls walking towards us and one of them had somehow managed to tuck the bottom of their skirt into their knickers - at the front! I thought then and there that this is the place for me.

Dudley

You're saying you saw an Essex girl wearing knickers?

Max Kon

Essex girls are meant to be dumb and easy.
