When Slaine artists collide! I mean of course both of these artists have done a lot more for Tharg than just the wode warped warrior but I'd suggest that's the strip they are both best known for? Both also faced very tough draws in the first rounds of their respective tourney's which saw them fall at the first hurdle AND both their names end in an 'N'... could they be more alike??? How close will this be therefore?
Time for you to decide your favourite as the droids square up to the tee...
Clint Langley - more info (http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=droid&page=profiles&choice=clintl)
OR
Glenn Fabry - more info (http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=droid&page=profiles&choice=GLENNF)
Remember for this tourney you have 5 votes to distribute as you please between these two artists, whole numbers only. So you can vote 5 - 0; 4 - 1; or 3 - 2; either way depending on how much more you like one artist's work over the other.
If you can't be doing with that just name your favourite - remember bold tags, or other ways of highlighting always appreciated - and I'll give them 3 votes and nowt to the other droid.
Three day votes, so this one ends morning of Saturday 5th June
Remember we only consider work for Tharg in these Tourneys
What the heck is all this about - well we have a thread for that (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=47534.0)
How does this new voting work? Look here (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=47534.msg1059536#msg1059536) and why again? (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=47534.msg1059557#msg1059557)
I don't understand how this works, what are the rules of the Ryder Cup - yep got ya covered there too (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=47534.msg1059595#msg1059595)
Anything else just ask and I'll make something up. Most importantly have fun!
Dang, a short burst of iconic art vs years of creativity and invention. 3-2 to Langley for me.
Clint Langley 3- Glenn Fabry 2
Langley Lions 3 - Fabry FC 2
Clint Langley
Langley 3 Fabry 2
Clint Langley - 1
Glenn Fabry - 4

Er sorry....what?
Anyway....
Possibly my second favourite ever artist here. Nothing against Clint who seems to be a very decent chap based on the chat I had with him at the 40th, but you know it's Fabry and so:
Glenn takes it 4-1(I have to give Clint a point as I did buy some art from him).
Two great Slaine artists, but taking their work apart from that, Glenn's detail on Dredd and the Batman crossover is amazing, and Clint did some beautiful wide-screen work on ABC.
Glenn Fabry 3, Clint Langley 2.

There was some silly logic to that when I wrote it... whatever it was is lost in the mists of time and I have no idea!
simply impossible.
2-2
I have go based on their interpretations of Slaine, and so Langley wins it 4-1.
SBT
Langley 1 Fabry 4
Langley 3 : Fabry 2
The Volgan War tipping the balance to Langley for me.
Langley 4 : Fabry 1
ABC Warriors Volgan War was one of the first non-Dredd thrills I read a number of years ago when getting in to 2000AD. While I enjoyed the story, it was really the art that blew me away, and it's because of the art I've re-read it twice since then!
Fabry is great, but not being a huge Slaine fan, I have less exposure to his work...the Dredd/Batman crossover first comes to mind.
Glenn 4, Clint 1. Clint is amazing but Sláine the King was some of the prog's best ever art.
Glenn then, Clint now?
Fabry's Sláine was a revelation, at least by the time we'd reached Tomb of Grimnismal, and still that first run of The King, with Niamh, "Megrim" and all the personalities of the Sessair was like nothing we'd ever seen before. In a strip defined by the most magnificent variety of art, it remains breathtaking.
Unfortunately, I feel his incredible detail led Sláine down a specific path just as much as Bisley's paints did, so that in the post-Horned God era we were tied to ever more elaborate, exquisite densely-worked art (its apotheosis being his own Demon Killer), a standard that slowed the strip down to a visual pace that would have seemed impossible when McMahon and Bellardinelli were breezing along at the easel.
I don't like his Dredd much, and beyond that, there's not a massive amount for the HoT, although I've enjoyed his recent short stuff.
Langley has a similar obsession with hyper detail, and while I've disliked an unhealthy proportion of his stuff, so much of it is absolutely sublime, and brother there is a hell of a lot of it. I like him best when he hasan ink pen in his hand, and his ABC Warriors/RoBusters, Sexy Ostriches, Books of Invasions and particularly Lord of Misrule are all extraordinary. The less said about my thoughts on Flesh and some of his later Sláine the better, but I'm really looking forward to his work on Joe Pineapples.
It's a hard call for me, but I think Sláine's inauguration episode carries the day, even against the amazing world of colour that Books of Invasions created.
So Glenn 3, Clint 2.
Definitely
Farbry 4
Langley 1
Almost done here. Just today and then I'll count up in the morning. So any last votes get um in before tomorrow morning (first thing).
For me this one is tough. If it was just based on Slaine work that it would be Glenn Fabry all the way as I enjoyed his work on that series so much more than Clint Langley's BUT then Clint's work on ABC Warriors is absolutely outstanding. Overall though I think the decision boils down to the fact that Clint's work has to have a strip that suits his style for me while Glenn's os strong regardless and on that basis.
Clint Langley 2 : Glenn Fabry 3
Ooh just time to vote then?
I think on the balance of variety I'm edging Langley's way - on Slaine alone I favour Fabry but those first coupe of Volgan Wars were proper WOWWOWOW.
Langley 3, Fabry 2
Langley Virginia Cavaliers (3) Fabry Moors (2)
VOTING CLOSED
Well damn this one was close. For such a long time the admiration for Clint Langley had him consistantly just ahead but a good late fun save Glenn Fabry justr sneak it. This was really was close to a tie.
Overall its a result that Classic Team really needed. Just a couple of votes the other way and Current Team would have opened their lead even further. As it is with results elsewhere possible going in their favour Classic Team are closing the gap looking likely to close it further and possibly entirely.
Current Team 12.5 : Classic Team 10.5
Current Team 1052 : Classic Team 1089*
