Off topic: my favourite "mind-numbingly stupid internal office politics" event happened to my wife: they were all told that they wouldn't be getting any more Post-It notes because they use too many of them.

Mind you, this didn't really come as a surprise, because a few weeks previously some management genius noticed that there was always Diet Lilt in the vending machine, even when it was otherwise empty, and concluded the Diet Lilt was therefore the most popular drink, so he doubled the order. Nice of him, wasn't it?
