General / p0-lot synopsis
18 May, 2002, 04:57:19 PM
Future shock synopsis one I've been thinking about, any thoughts

Cuckoo

story starts in pitch darkness with a small light source, source opens up to holographic head against black back drop, head is very alien.
Voice says "You can hear me now, we have almost arrived"
Cut to meteor in night sky.
hologram continues to explain to unseen protaginist that as a child of his planet he has a duty to help expand the empire.
Hologram vanishes shows apeman , nxt to it human . states in voice over potential as  slave race.
Explains that the Empire must send it's son amongst potential slaves to learn true capabilities of slaves.
Another picture skeleton slowly building up to human muscles being knitted on, skin gradually appearing.
"you will still have the strengths of our people but you must wear their flesh to go amongst them.
Hologram issues historical infomation, war, scientific advances.
States that humans have been called and that th eEmpire will return for him.
Final scene hick farmers, 1 male 1 female  looking down on something. Cuts to two three year old child sitting in side open metal capsule on red sheet, farmer turns to wife and says !"I think every thing ios going turn out super." The end.
I know it's rough as hell but I always liked the idea of Superman as colonist. I thopught of an al;ternative version where the computer tells the cuckoo they will be his slaves and he will live in luxury and it turns out he has the form of a puppy, cue spaying joke.

General / Dan Dare Series

Has any one seen the Dan Dare CGI series? And if so is it any good? Always thought this would be the way to go with Rogue Trooper.

General / Greatest Sci-fi movies never made.
17 May, 2002, 03:51:04 AM
Just got hold of a copy of the above book and have to say it's a damn good read, with a lot of dead projects I'ld have loved to see cruelly revealed to the world. How ridley Scotts "I am legend" was abandoned but Tim Burtions "Planet of the Apes" was made is a mystery. Hollywood Thrillsucker infestation?
On the subk=ject of movies apart from "Hard Ware" can anyone think of any films that baltantly rip off 2000 Ad stories? I always thought the reason a Judge Dredd film would always be pony was that RoboCop ripped off the strips sensibility to brilliant effect before a Dredd movie could be made. anything

General / Rogue
16 May, 2002, 10:12:34 PM
The new Rogue trooper: what are they going to do about the thoroughly screwed up continuity, between Rogue, Friday and Tor Cyan? Is Rogue going to wake up in n the shower with Bobby Ewing and its all been a horrible dream or is an attempt at some form of a time line going to be used, maybe a "Crisis on infinite Nu-earths"?
I had an idea that the whole lot could be consigned as a battle computer running the GI mind through different scenarios to see what best motivates a scout/loan infiltrator and what the GI capabiliteies are, that way all the stories "happened" but equally no bollocks continuity, and we could have a fresh slate.  Althjough the Dallas solution may work out better.
On the subject of Rogue is Michael Fleisher (evil!) the same guy who used to wwrite the spectre? If so how come he had a talent bypass between OK writing for Dc and pants for 2000 AD?

General / shocking futures
16 May, 2002, 04:50:10 PM
I've been tinkering with a future shock idea for awhile and wandered if anyone knows if there are any submissions guidelines hanging around?
One of the things thats bugging me is sometimes I have an idea for a strip and i have to think long and hard if it's original or I'm dredging it up from memory somewhere. Bloody annoying.
Oh and i promise not to bore anyone with the script.

General / Fear of a black Dredd
16 May, 2002, 02:13:00 PM
On the subject of Dredd casting from the previous post who do you all think should round out the cast baring in mind the low budget? It's a lot harder than just dream casting when your looking for good but cheap actors. And as I've been out voted on this one Dredd will have to be an Aryan storm trooper after all.

General / Rogue trooper and other questions.
15 May, 2002, 05:36:11 PM
Something which has been bugging me recently. I remember a crap 1980's cartoon with a villains hench man who was basically a mauve Rogue Trooper. Anyone out their able to tell me what the show is?
aAnd on the subject of rubbish I watched when hopped up on Kia-ora was their some jap puppet show about space ships and flying robots in the early 80's? No one seems to remember this but it's really stuck in my head, it was possibly called Space Fleet? I'm fairly sure the villain changed sex for some reason though this may be the tartazine talking. Back then i was banned from the too rough 2000 Ad and weaned on the Eagle. Any one know of any web sites for the 80's photo story "classic",particularly Doomlord? And has Eric Bradbury ever worked on 2000 Ad? Used to love hte strips he drew in Eagle.
Apologise form the rambling, I'm working nights at the moment and the insomnia is killing me.

General / In defence of Dan Abnett
13 May, 2002, 04:50:38 PM
I know it's not a popular view but here goes; Dan Abnett isn't crap. Comparing his Flesh story to the Legend of Shanara(?) he's written a tight little thriller whilst the latter story is a sprawling mess. Sinister Dexter combined with Dante and the Pit were the first shoots of spring after the mag had been dire for the best part of 5 years and his Legion for DC is great. And whilst I -shudder- agree with scojo about some of the dialogue in Sinister Dexter it's still a quality strip. And at least we don't have to put up with paranoid ramblings from Abnett when he gets stick.

General / Dialogue
13 May, 2002, 03:44:52 PM
reading a lot of the messages about dialogue for Judges in the screen play extracts I thought you might be interested in the opinion of a copper. I'm a shift officer in a built up city area and  I find that as an interviewer one of the most important skills you can pick up is having an ear for peoples speach patterns as it's a very good way of telling whether someones feeding you a lie. To do this you have to speak naturally and in colloquilisms as any more formal speach puts people onto the defensive and it makes it that much harder to tell if they're being honest or not. The other thing you notice in a job full
of new graduates is how quickly people adopt regional expressions. I think -admittedly fictional- judges would talk in a non-stilted manner if only to faciliate communication with the public.

General / Back in the Fold
03 May, 2002, 05:17:56 PM
I recently picked up a large stash of progs from the time just before the Dredd movie came out up to fairly recently, having given up a good few years ago and wondered if some one can tell me what the hell happened to Pat Mills? Finn and Slaine are almost unreadable and if there is a softer target than the christians Mills keeps on kicking I can't think what it is. I used to be a big fan Charlies War in Battle Action Force was great and Nemesis and the ABC's were interesting characters but now the subtext has dropped the sub  and it reads like a rant half the time. Any thoughts?
