Quote from: Colin YNWA on 15 February, 2024, 05:59:50 AMone of Alan Davis' best inkers,

Just heard the sad news about Paul Neary a few minutes ago.
As mentioned, a multi-talented gentleman, but his inking was all-time top 10 for me.

We've recently lost inking masters, Tom Palmer and Dan Green, not to mention Hall of Famers like Al Williamson a decade or so ago.
Seems to be a genuine dying art, sadly.

If anything in a sub plot goes on for a couple of weeks I reckon I'm in with a shot.

Quickly - retrieve the Biochip from GI 80085 before it expires.

Good work, soldier.

Okay - insert it into the slot in that Millicom issue automated tungsten chain link.

Excellent. Looks like we have the means to retrieve the command Hopper from that blasted Qik-zand.

Welcome back to the fight, Link.

Quote from: IndigoPrime on 07 February, 2024, 12:08:01 PMSorry to hear you're not enjoying the Prog, Link. Given how much I like right now, I'm finding it surprising to hear someone aligning it with 2000 AD's nadir.

Quote from: Jim_Campbell on 07 February, 2024, 12:15:26 PMWorse than (or as bad as) Prog 883?!

Even if you don't like what's currently in the prog, I'd find it hard to argue that anything currently running is as objectively bad as some of the stuff we were subjected to in the mid-90s.

I guess it is what it is lads.

Look, I would have read Prog 883 cover to cover at the time, but that was literally 30 years ago.
We all like to think we have become quite discerning regarding the quality of the comics we consume over the years, but the reality is it will always be purely subjective.
What I can say for sure is that I have become quite discerning regarding the comics that I want to read - and it's 20% of this weeks Prog, much to my chagrin.

I can of course acknowledge the high quality of the artwork, colouring , lettering and production values that go into the modern Prog.
Goes without saying.

Roll on the April line-up!

You already overtook on post quality a long time ago pal.

Quote from: Barrington Boots on 07 February, 2024, 09:13:08 AMIf I'm not mistaken that cover is a homage to the poster art for Blood on Satans Claw. Fantastic stuff.

Well spotted, and yes, a fantastic cover by SB.

Lucky for me Thistlebone is running right now, otherwise it would be the all-time slimmest of pickings - I'm not enjoying / bothering to read the remainder of the Prog.

Regardless, €4.99 for 5 pages of this quality is still a relative bargain in the world of comics in 2024.
Kudos to TC Eglington on his finest script to date for Tharg, and Simon Davis remains an artistic force of nature. I kneel before Zod.

In a world where John Q. Public recently had to swallow such fish bones as Harleen Quinzel, Otto Octavius, Edward Nygma and <choke> Blackagar Boltagon, I think we'll be just fine.

The nickname / call-sign route is the obvious one to take, as with the excellent IDW version of Rogue.

Watched the longer version of that last night Alec - really enjoyed it.
Cheers for the heads up.

Quote from: IndigoPrime on 31 January, 2024, 05:52:28 PMHas there been any hint as to how long this story will last?

Dredd horror strip 'Iron Teeth' is set to start in April.

It could of course be about a judicial liaison social worker applying for dental implant subsidy for a young mutie immigrant.

I was ride or die reading everything in my younger days - I mean, we're talkin the full run of R.A.M. Raiders here.
Been ruthless in the last few years though, since about the numerical Prog 2000 - will skip anything that doesn't tickle my fancy without hesitation.
Normally not an issue for an anthology comic of the Prog's underlying quality though.

Jayzus, Jayzus, Jayzus - it's 2024 - you can't just get away with being entertained by fictional dystopian regimes anymore.

The intention is laudable.
I was just never on board with the publication stratagem, nor impressed by even a casual skim of the majority of the material.
