You never could top that explosive season finale cliffhanger in 2021.

Film & TV / Re: Last movie watched...

Watched the new David Fincher movie The Killer on Netflix last night.

Surprisingly good, despite the pretty poor promo and "Can I make it through this?" opening credits montage.

I know it's already on the Hollywood cards, but Fincher and Fassbender are only a blonde wig away from a decent Button Man adaptation as it stands.

This was always coming down the pipe at some stage, best pull off the band aid in 2024.

How could it conclude with anything other than "at least you tried" after Maitland takes a bullet in the Problem Glasses?

Very interested in the Arthur Ranson Button Man Apex Edition.
Unexpected!

Quote from: Blue Cactus on 02 November, 2023, 10:42:04 PMYeah he definitely worked with his brother - I think it was the second Pan African Judges series.

Would anyone think of Paul Marshall as under appreciated?

Didn't Siku just take on the writing of Pan African Judges himself after Paul Cornell bailed?
The second series was better by a Saharan mile in any case (art-wise too).

Regardless off all other irrelevancies mentioned, he's a great artist, and deserves a nod on this thread.

RE: Paul Marshall - no way I would consider him underappreciated. He's been churning out fantastic pages for decades on a regular basis.
I'd consider him a good when quick / great when slow artist - his best and most detailed work was definitely in the mid-90's.

And I like my Jim McCarthy:

Quote from: JayzusB.Christ on 02 November, 2023, 01:29:21 PMI thought he was absolutely perfect for Sláine, but he only did a couple of episodes.
Apparently because Slaine's overt paganism conflicted with his own Christian beliefs. Surprised we even got those few episodes, tbh.

Ah- A devout Christian?!
At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within the portfolio of the creator of the Pan-African Gods?!

Well, Nyxlas, you are an odd fellow, but I must say... you steam a good psalm.

Yes, good shout.

Regarding The Power Droid - I guess you'd have to be blind not to appreciate his raw talent, but I always felt he received significantly less fanfare than his more well known contemporaries at the time.

Had heard before that he's done well for himself with design work, and glad to hear it.

And regarding Ho-Gan; I was a pretty big fan of Strontium Dogs and many of his US projects.
Great writer, and 2000AD could certainly benefit from his regular input today.

News / Re: John M Burns Retires

Hadn't heard about decommissioning of the venerable Burns Droid - sad news.

He's had a wonderful career in comics, and I wish him all the best in the years to come.
I'll be all over that art book when it's released.

Thank you, John.

Quote from: JayzusB.Christ on 31 October, 2023, 03:39:26 PMSimon Harrison was another artist I really, really liked.  Yep, even his Strontium Dog stuff.  While I still don't have a clear understanding of what Feral or Revere's faces actually looked like, I think they were perfect the way he did them. Other very good artists have tackled both characters, but for me, they're Harrison's guys, vivid facial features or otherwise.

Which brings me on to Dean Ormston, who also didn't bother with clarity of phizog, but again didn't need to.  His electric colours jumping out of twilight blue backgrounds were Mega City 1 in its essence, purified and bottled.

100% with you regarding The Dean and S. Harrison.

I'd add:

Dermot Power - Much more than A Biz / Fabry fill-in on Slaine. Omega level talent.
Dave D'Antiquis - A monochrome master of the genre. And he can paint.
Nigel Dobbyn - Some page layouts still etched into my brain. Underrated painted artwork too.
Kevin Cullen - If only he'd been given a shot at an A list series.
Paul Johnson - Very unique artist. Rarely see his name mentioned.
Simon Jacob - The designs. The energy. Huge talent.
Mick Austin - Seemed to be on the cusp of greatness, then disappeared. Some wonderful covers.

WUT? That's the hallowed 'rest of Milligan' book I was hoping for, bar (alas) Freaks. I had no idea this was coming. Here's hoping FPI has a copy...

Actually really disappointed by that - was hoping for a pure Bix edition.
Worth it for the Jim McCarthy factor alone.

Darnation.
