Got my hands on Dial H today.  Tipping my hat to Mieville and Santoluco, that's one hell of a good comic.  Was instantly reminded of Moore, Veitch, Alcala and Totleben's work in Swamp Thing 51-53ish - it's that good.  I'm generally a Mieville fan, but had no idea if he'd work out in comics:  he does.

Mystery In Space - Looking forward to this. These periodic anthologies seem to be last dredges of what I consider to be Vertigo comics...especially now that they just announced that Sweet Tooth has been cancelled.

Frankenstein Alive #1 - New Bernie Wrightson on Frankenstein!

Choker TP - Finally. Can't believe this took so long. Very good crime comic, with some superhero/supernatural elements. Ben McCool is one of the hotter indie up and coming writers around right now, and Ben Templesmith is...well, he's still Templesmith. This took like 3 or 4 years to finish.

We may have been over this before, but Spaceman, Fairest (and Fables), Saucer Country, and New Deadwardians are all really good. Punk Rock Jesus (Sean Gordon Murphy!) and Collider (more Sci-Fi comics!) both look like they can be really good too.

I don't think Vertigo is as dead as you think.

Also, I think its about time I gave Sweet Tooth a shoot. I don't think I had a good grasp of what it was about when in launched so I over looked it. When I found out it was a Post-Apoc type book it was well into the run. I do like that stuff.

Also worth noting that Sweet Tooth isn't cancelled but Jeff Lemire says its just run its natural course. Given his relationship with DC (I assume) no reason to doubt that?

Did a Nerd Shop run this weekend and had a load of stuff waiting for me as I'd not been for three weeks.

My DC haul was

Fantastic: Action Comics (best issue yet), Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Batman, All Star Western, Earth 2 (what a way to start a series!).

Good: Batwing, Resurrection Man

Fine: JLI, Frankenstein, Flash (looks very good but sometimes the writing... I wonder if this was any other character would I still be getting it?)

Justice League Dark which if it wasn't for the fact that Jeff Lemire was taking over I'm afraid I would have cancelled. I love Pete Milligan and there's always a scene in each issue that's great, just over all its been a bit of a mess.

Green Arrow which has hints of what Nocenti did that was so good with Daredevil, but is a little random and breakneck. I'm going to give it a little more time for her to settle in but this one is close to the chop now.

G.I. Combat that was so bland, next issue will have to pick up a lot or this one is gone before its even really started. 'War that time forgot' read like every comic where anybody at Marvel first arrives at the Savage Land but took like 14 pages to do that!

I also handed in my list of picks for me stuff to try. L'il Depressed Boy (from issue 13), Fatale from issue 6, The Massive starting in June and the very unimaginatively named 'Creator Owned Comics' also coming out in June. Any DC book in the fine list (or worse) needs to be looking over its shoulder!

I also got Popeye 1 which was great fun, Spaceman which is a fine series but I wish I'd trade waited and Planet of the Apes which is brilliant as ever. How the hell they've managed to get as consistently good comic out as regularly as this, keeping the same art team, with apparently such mediocre sales is a wonder, it really is and you should all check it out.
