Windows XP help needed....

Every icon has vanished from my sons desktop, everything, even the recycle bin.

All the programmes still seems to be working when loded from the All programmes in the start menu.

Anyone got anyidea what happened and how I can get them back?

Ya sure he didn't delete them?

To see if they still exist take a look in this directory : Documents And Setting[backslash][backslash]Desktop

If this directory is empty and so is the Recycle Bin then they are gone.

You'll need to create new ShortCuts

Yep, if you haven't done it before you can just drag the programs from the Start menu onto the desktop and it creates a new shortcut icon.

But the bin has gone too.

There is an option for 'hide desktop icons' that had been ticked or checked or whatever.....

Are you sure you don't have one of those viruses that takes a snapshot of your desktop and puts it on your computer as a seperate window?  Could be your explorer programme has simply packed up for a bit.

Did you know if you drag your recycle bin into your recyle bin... your computer vanishes
