Class avatar blackmocco! I hope you enjoy the boards and welcome.

Cheers. Work for the show in question. Always fun to cross-pollinate the favorites.

Welcome. I had a nose through your blog - lovely work, always nice to bump into an artist whose work you've already seen elsewhere.

Any chance of you suggesting they do a Judge Dredd scene? ;)

Haha! Dredd might be too high-brow for a FG cutaway. Almost threw Nemesis in to Jabba's palace as a background alien for the Jedi spoof but at the last minute figured I didn't want to get into any of the potential legalities involved, y'know? Would've been fun though. I should stick the design up here maybe.

Actually met Kev O'Neill over here a while back at a signing for LOEG. He told me himself and Alan were huge FG fans. "You've never heard anything like Alan imitating Stewie in his thick Northampton accent". The man's a champion.

Zarjazzer: Thanks! We have FG theme-related art auctions here in the studio every couple of months. It's just something for ourselves but I'd done a much different Star Trek one (just classic Trek) for the TV show theme, knowing Seth's a rabid fan. Didn't do me any harm in the wallet when he won the auction but one of the show's other writers asked me to do him one as well but with TNG thrown in. Took me a fuckin' year but. Glad he was patient. Problem with TNG is they've no strong villains beyond the Borg so just coming up with ideas was actually the hardest part.

CrazyFoxMachine: Hoping to have it the book done by the summer but I dunno. Hard to find the time to work on it. Accurate view of my room back then though. Motorhead albums and 2000ad's everywhere. Good times...

well you-know as a hollywood vehicle, it was a decent Stallone film - better than Cobra lol
it's watchable - it obviously has a producers hand firmly in it so to speak with the 'comedy' 'relief', the Stallone catchphrases etc It's interesting, as parts of the movie are ok, and if only stallone had kept the helmet on and there were certain plotlines/subplotlines/characters written out, the bad guys were well represented and portrayed, and I think armand assante is great as Rico - albeit he should have been deformed.

I still think - who would have been the best guy to play Dredd in 1995, and I can only look at films like Demolition Man, Fifth Element etc and say Bruce Willis or Sylvester Stallone would have been great for the role (Schwarzenegger would have been terrible!).
and other actors going back a few years who could have played Dredd.
1989 - Warren Beatty(dick tracy)?-Clint Eastwood?
1985 - Jack Palance as an old dredd? -Clint Eastwood?.
infact it's an interesting topic in of its self; i.e. who would have played a great Dredd in past decades.

Remember watching Nick Nolte in Extreme Prejudice and thinking he'd have made a great Dredd. Clancy Brown would've been cool. Hell, even Peter Weller himself if Robocop hadn't gotten in the way. Haha!

Chuffed with Urban though. Great bit of casting.

Couldn't get much worse, that's for sure..

Ah y'know, it gets a bad rap. I mean, it's a shite movie but even now, it still has a few moments that paint the right picture. The Hall Of Justice looks great, the whole block war-Dredd introduction's a nice glimpse of what could have been and despite the fact you never see it walking properly, the robot looks about right.

I guess my point is there are plenty of other comic-to-movie adaptations just as bad that people never bag on as much. The Shadow? Tank Girl? The fucking Phantom? Do I even need to mention League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen...? They're all just as bad in their own ways.

Yeah, most of Dredd translated into reality is a pretty horrifying idea, for sure. Haha!

My favorite stand-alone panel from Dredd's from Block Mania where Dredd and his squad blast their way through the crazed Citi-Def to escape and then just ride their lawmasters over the flattened bodies. I remember thinking as I read it for the first time the callousness yet utter hilarity of the visual.

Haha! 'Cream Of Munce' makes my skin crawl. These look great! Starting to get a much better vision of it all now and clearly it's, visually anyway, going to be a really unsettling and filthy version of MC-1. It almost always looks majestic in the comics. I'm really getting a sense of how shitty a job being a Judge is going to be in this version.

More interesting to me is the very first pic with the Judge silhouettes sprayed on the wall. Some mighty big pads there. Might just be to play them up for the graphic or maybe there's some more to the uniform than we've seen yet.

Clearly the people have no idea what they are talking about seeing as Robocop was based on Dredd to a certain degree. People there are looking for another Stallone type version???!!

Check out the special features on the 2-disc Robocop DVD in regards to 'certain degree'. Seriously. There's a maquette being sculpted in one of the stills and it's literally Dredd.

Actually, here it is: http://www.flickr.com/photos/97531199@N00/4524587533/

As for AICN, I wouldn't pay too much heed. They're all haters of everything new. Guess it's easy to have a bold and controversial opinion typing from the safety of Mummy's basement...

I was pretty horrified seeing those trucks as they are yesterday morning but I dunno what happened. Was thinking about it last night and just kept thinking about Escape From New York and how well it works as a low-budget dystopian future by showing you virtually next to nothing. Think this might all be alright. Guess what reassured me was driving to work this morning and seeing the LAPD 'ghetto-bird' circling in the distance and thinking even if they use helicopters as H-Wagons for the movie, it'll work okay...

Plus I keep forgetting Dredd was originally set in the 2070s and as frightening as it is to the six year old who read his older brother's 2000ads (for Flesh, naturally!) in 1977, 2070's not that fucking far away now, is it...? Pretty sure we're actually NOT going to have flying cars by then...
