The 2000AD art competition at Thought Bubble is a great opportunity, if you want the folks at 2000AD to look at your work (if you can make it to Leeds, that is). Of course, that isn't until later in the year, but that at least gives you time to prepare.

Before that, why not share some of your artwork on the forum? There really are some terrific artists on here, I'm sure they could give you some great feedback on what you're doing right, what you're doing wrong and how to make your artwork better.

That latest piece is beautiful... in a dark, disturbing way  :P

Just as the Dark Judges should be.

It sucks that you didn't get to pitch, but I kinda figured this kinda thing would happen when i heard it was first come, first served.

Which is why I got there over an hour early and started queuing before the previous panel had even gone in.

So, I was the first one up on stage.

I didn't win but I'm still glad I got to pitch.

I will be going back this year and trying again, although I haven't settled on an idea yet, there are a few possibilities that I might pull out of my ideas notebook.

I think it looks cool.

Some of the characters don't look quite right; Dredd on Page One, Panel 5 and the bully dunking the kid on Page Two, Panel Four.

Still, it's very almost perfect.

I'll leave it to the actual artists to give a more detailed analysis.

I can't imagine that I'll be doing any more work with Top Cow any time soon. They don't put out a lot of books, so opportunities are few and far between.

Occasionally they've brought Talent Hunt Winners and Runners-Up back to write one shots, I don't plan to wait around, hoping that will happen, though.

My current plan is to try teaming up with artists to pitch series ideas to various publishers. I mean, I've proven myself capable of working professionally, so that should at least count for something.

I figure I've never been in a better position to try pitching, so I'm going to give it my all.

Well, CYBERFORCE: ARTIFACTS #0 is now out in the shops, if anyone wants to pick it up.

I'd be interested in hearing what people think.

There first reviews have started to appear online too; https://m.facebook.com/notes/reading-with-a-flight-ring/cyber-force-artifacts-0/1365417123502801/

Dunno what a Cyberforce is (although my hindbrain suspects Liefield and/or Lee were involved somewhere!), but those are some fun-looking pages - nice crisp art on them too. Congrats!

Close. CyberForce was one of the first titles launched by Image Comics. It was created by Marc Silvestri.

Originally it was about a group of mutants who were given cybernetic enhancements by CyberData. Although, in the 2012 relaunch they were reimagined as purely being cyborgs.

There is a preview up on Newsarama for CYBERFORCE: ARTIFACTS #0 if anyone is interested in checking it out; http://www.newsarama.com/32372-cyberforce-returns-in-artifacts-0.html#s8

Mine is the third story featuring Aphrodite IV.

It's eight pages long and you can see two of those pages here.

I sent one in a couple of weeks after the window re-opened.

I mentioned to Matt Smith that I'd sent a Future Shock in through the regular channels too, when I spoke to him at Thought Bubble, and he indicated that he hadn't started going through the slush pile yet.

To be fair, going through the slush pile is something that he does in addition to his regular editorial duties, so it's hardly surprising that he hasn't had time to make a start on it yet.

Hey guys, I thought you might like to know that Matt Hawkins just revealed the subject matter for the Top Cow Talent Hunt 2017.

Here is the link; https://twitter.com/topcowmatt/status/805837378271092736

Entrants are going to have the chance to write or draw Think Tank, Tithe and Postal.

The Talent Hunt won't be officially announced until the Summer during San Diego Comic Con but that doesn't stop any aspiring writers or artists out there from researching those titles.

So, hey, if any of you guys want to be published by Image Comics too, there is your chance.

Hi Paul, great news! Really pleased for you. I can add another name to my list of 'Started out at FQP'

Looking forward to the book.

I'm still very proud to have had 'Projections' appear as the lead strip in FutureQuake #20 and I'm really looking forward to seeing my strip 'Ghosts of Mega-City One' appear in Zarjaz sometime next year.

Hello everyone, I've been a member on these boards for a number of years now, some of you probably know me, others don't.

Sometimes I post on here a lot, other times, not so much.

So, anyway, I thought I'd share that on the 28th of December I'm getting published by Image Comics.

Nothing massive, just an eight page strip in an anthology.

I was a Writing Runner-Up in the 2015 Top Cow Talent Hunt, which means that I was given the chance to write a six to eight page strip for an Image Comics one shot featuring Top Cow characters.

I picked Aphrodite IV.

The book is CyberForce: Artifacts #0.

It's been very exciting, I got to work with a fantastic artist, the amazing Jim Towe, who has since been picked up as the artist for the new Youngblood series.

I hope a few of you decide to pick up the book and with any luck, I can use this as a launch pad to find future work as a comic book writer.

Well, I was first up on stage (mainly because I got there an hour early to queue) and made my pitch.

I didn't win, but hey, pitching is tough.

I think I oversimplified my story for my pitch as I was told it sounded more like a one pager. Which is a fair criticism. There were a few more complications in the script that I wrote that I chose to omit because they weren't central to understanding the twist.

And I didn't set up the twist enough. Which, if I choose to submit my script elsewhere, I do need to fix.

At least I did get to pitch though. I think all in all, the panel ended up listening to less than ten pitches, so I made the right move by turning up early.

Hopefully the experience I had this year will help me when I go back next year.

Yeah, my train is at 6am tomorrow, and I'm pondering how much sleep I'm actually going to get.

At least I've got my pitch written up now, and I even wrote a first draft of the script.

I practiced my pitch on my flatmate, and she reminded me to go slowly.

Anyway, good luck to everyone else who is pitching tomorrow too.

Well, remember that you can only send one submission at a time and you have to wait for your feedback before you can send off another.

I imagine the slush pile is fairly large and the editors in charge have other jobs as well.

Therefore, as you might expect, it could take a while for you to get a response.

You might have a lot of ideas you want to submit before March, but I imagine you'll only be provided the time to submit one, maybe two if you're very lucky. So, choose wisely.

From what I understand, we have two minute to pitch our idea, and then the next person gets their chance. And it's first come, first served.

So, the panel lasts for 50 minutes, and I would expect a large queue of people wanting to pitch, even if you could rejoin the queue at the back, as it were, they're unlikely to get to you again.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, and there are only a few people wanting to pitch, then you will simply get the opportunity to pitch one idea and that's it.

I guess I better hope that I've picked a good enough idea.
