02 January, 2016, 09:54:32 PM
... There a few of us on the board who have or are suffering from that nasty little bugger called depression.
I want this thread to be somewhere we can come and talk to fellow like (not in their right) minded chaps and chapesses!
No nastiness or name calling ,that's what the political threads for ,just come and if you are able vent, rant or just come for a virtual cuppa, choccy bicuit and hug.

 Whats everyone doing?
I'm currently hollowing out the girl's pumpkin but have received no instructions on whats being carved into it yet. She's gone to the market with her mum dressed as a black cat (the girl, not the wife) then later on i'll reluctantly walk round the streets with her while she begs for sweeties and when we get home i'll be cracking open my "unce festers" beer and ignoring the door (that's the wife's job).
I think the mother in laws coming round as well so maybe a kfc for tea which will make the whole evening worth it,i'll then carry on playing red dead redemption:undead nightmare which has become my own tradition.
Then its off to bed to get them all up early to go to a toy collector fair.

Help! / can a practising nurse be a company director?
14 October, 2015, 02:53:49 PM
just querying this as an old "colleague" made a point of only "being able" to work very part time meaning me who genuinely needed to drop hours wasn't allowed to.i have found out she works as a director in her husbands i.t. business  would it count as a conflict of interest if she hasn't disclosed her position to the nhs?

appreciate any nuggets on this .

Off Topic / carrier bags
29 September, 2015, 10:47:21 PM
Had an email from Iceland (the shop, not the country) telling me they are now legally obliged(from oct 5th) to charge 5p for a carrier bag!  Now my wife used to work in retail as a manager in various roles and always understood that carrier bag prices are factored into the shop (prices etc) as fixtures and fittings so effectively you are paying for something you've already paid for...

   anyone in retail clarify this?

Off Topic / Greetingsss from the precipice!!!
07 September, 2015, 05:55:59 PM
Well, I've had an eventful week not quite up to buttman standards (thankfully,) but nearly kicked the big one.

On Monday morming I awoke with a very tight chest and a big pain ,I then coughed up some (a lot) blood.
on Tuesday I went to my doctors as you do and he sent me to the hospital to rule out blood clot on my lung..

As it turns out I didn't have a blood clot on my lung but several of the buggers in both lungs!!!!  so if I hadn't gone to the docs I would probably be deaded or on my way there.  Hated every millisecond in hospital and didn't eat a thing as it was evilly vile food. so no buttman style food reviews here!

finally home and trying to settle in , I wonder if this is what prisoners feel like on release .

so for the shittiest week of my life I wont be recommending them on trip advisor but I want to thank brindle ward and a&e of chorley hospital for ensuring my feet didn't come out first!

am now perusing the force awakens stuff and waiting for proper home cooked food (pulled pork and chips)

regards! and glad to be alive!

Off Topic / things you really miss
27 August, 2015, 03:37:28 PM
nearly losing my trousers to a pocket full of pound coins the other day i began to think what else i miss and wondered if anyone else missed anything (other than family members etc)

pound notes...they were light and made my wallet look fuller

my Raleigh phaser..the first bike i owned and loved dearly right down to the chunk missing out of the left handle bar where i collided with the wall.

loooong hot summers

letters, properly written ones from penpals not the computerised ones that are usually after money.

the smell of a freshly opened original star wars figure.

yorkie bars when not owned by nestle

"laser" bars dunno if anyone else remembers them 2p each rock hard candy that was just luvly (closest thing in flavour these days are "frosties" the sweets not the corn flakes

white dog poo (strange i know but it was always a staple of life)

creosoted fences

the days before social media/mobile phones

getting 10p back on your bottles of pop

chip pans filled with lard

probably think of more but please lets have yours

i was going to include hardback books but as they seem to be making a comeback recently

20 August, 2015, 10:49:32 PM

Have my pics of my wee lassie gone for good or can they be retrieved from some hidden diverse corner of my harddrive?

Games / Is xbox 360 dead?
20 June, 2015, 03:46:17 PM
when they released the new 'un they said not to worry as 360 would be catered for for many years to come asides from call of duty again and a few arcade games I haven't seen much to shout about announced.
being nearly unemployed I cannot afford a new console and games so is this goodbye to late night sessions blowing crap up?

Help! / reliable wheelchair rental in nottingham
20 June, 2015, 10:31:06 AM
Following a jolly if not painful week in the lakes pushing the mother in law about .we're doing it again in Nottingham! However , due to a seriously snotty woman at horizon mobility who accused us of losing/keeping one footplate rather than tnt who picked it up,and we didn't get it for the full week we paid for, we are now wary about who we hire with . We'd really prefer a local to Nottingham firm who we can either pick up from or have delivered to the cottage!
So if any notts natives can steer us in the right direction we'd be most grateful

Books & Comics / Spawn Resurrection
16 March, 2015, 02:36:57 PM
got this today with a nice judge dredd postcard from disposable comicbook heroes ( a sort of zombie dredd) as opposed to the many crappy transformer ones  I kept getting.

this one shot has spawn original ,mr al simmons in limbo talking to a dog that is god! dog/god lets him  know a few things including the fact at some point
wanda has died ,and gone to hell to be with their stillborn baby
he gets a huge sword and makes his appearance as was in spawn #250
liking the new artwork by jon boy Meyers after the muddy boring  work before , only two things I don't like is al has got a human face with green eyes instead of the burnt hamburger head I remember and the venom like mouth when hes masked up.

General / graphic novels releases
28 January, 2015, 09:12:12 AM
Are rebellion winding down releasing graphic novels on a regular basis? I'm thinking mainly from a judge dredd perspective as we haven't had much asides from the doc collections and the dark judges will be a while yet, asides from the case files which I stopped collecting a while ago there hasn't been much in newer collections and even with the partworks coming out it would be nice to get some of the newer dredd tales since the rebellion takeover and circumstances have prevented me from getting the prog regularly so I have missed many stories including the much praised "titan"

Film & TV / naked and afraid
19 December, 2014, 10:14:12 PM
only just found out about this series, a man and women are dumped in the wild naked (except for a blur and a strategically placed bag ) with nowt but one chosen item and must survive for 21 days (ed Stafford topped that with 60 days on his lonesome) but this shows some us outdoors survival "experts" machoing about and not using common sense . (my favourite being "puma" who nearly died drinking untreated water.)

me and the wife constantly point out blindingly obvious things that if even a couple of couch potatos can see why cant a marine corp vet?
