Life is riddled with a procession of minor impediments

Can't remember if there is a life is unbelievably shit thread but I've just been given notice to quit my flat by end of January. I have been there since 2003 so it feels like the end of the world at the moment. I have a very upset stomach.

That sucks, SG. Are there any clauses in your tenancy agreement you can use to stop this? If you're not sure, take it along to the CAB and/or a solicitor who'll give you a free hour. Local housing charities may also have specialist knowledge on which you can draw. Are there other tenants in your position? If so, maybe you can organise an opposition.

Bummer staticgirl -  Are they selling or just jacking the rent up beyond your means? The rental market is truly frightening - I'm lucky to rent a (formerly council) housing association flat that I've been in for 23 years, so there's no danger of sudden eviction, (unless I get seriously anti-social!)

And there is a "life spugs because" thread ...https://forums.2000adonline.com/index.php?topic=24364.0

Shite news SG. That happened to me about four years ago. New landlord decided to renovate and turfed us out. It feels like you have to scramble to find something, but don't, take a few weeks and really look for something nice. You don't want to have to move again in six months because you were panicked and jumped at the first available place.

that's crap staticgirl, we nearly faced losing our home a few years ago so can relate to that dropping out of your insides feeling, hope you get sorted soon if things get really desperate maybe shark could find you a corner in his shed but you'll have to provide your own beanbag.
don't get into an argument with an idiot,he'll drag you down to his level then win with experience!

I do have a beanbag but you'll have to fight the dog for it.

Something Fishy

The dvla have revoked my driving license based on information on how my eyes were 10 months ago, without contacting my doctor or me to find it was fully healed 6 months ago.

So I just got back well, full time and promoted and am now going to be in trouble because of a total fuck up on their part.  It can take months or years to get it back apparently even when there is nothing wrong,

There was something on the radio this week about this.  A parliamentary inquiry into incidence of the DVLA erroneously revoking licenses and the length of time / money it cost.  Some lass had around £30 000 in expenses reimbursed!  Hope it doesn't take anywhere near as long / cost as much!

I like cats, and was dismayed to see one get smacked by a car last night.  It twitched and hopped like a fish out of water and I thought I'd have to put it out of its misery, but was relieved that it stopped moving after a minute or so.  The driver, fair play to him, stopped and dragged it off the road, then started calling into the local houses to find its owner.

Not pleasant though, and an image that will stay with me for a long time.

Brilliant thanks for that Tmj.

Local radio and TV are on this now and my docs have provided all evidence that I am 100% well and yet they still cannot and will not give any idea as to time frames for this.

It will cost them if I lose my job, it's good to know I can claim back from them but it should never come to that for such spurious reasons.

Fishy, don't acknowledge their authority and just drive anyway. The DVLA are clearly in the wrong—no jury would take their side.

Easier to type than do I know...

The problem I would have there is that I would not be insured surely?

I would not want to from 'in the right' to criminal.

You could inform them that you will be using taxis in place of driving for all work-related journeys and will be billing them for the expense...
