Profile settings/Topic replies

Am I right thinking I have to wait a while to be able to edit my profile and add an avatar etc?

I've been a member a while now but a lot of the time I don't have the option to reply to some threads etc., so my ability to interact is somewhat limited :/

I know you need to establish I am in fact a person but I can get a letter from my mum if you like, and no-one messes with my mum 

Any help or advice would be great, cheers chaps
