Mine are already booked at my local comic shop. I rang Graham up and before I could ask, he said "How many do you want?" Time to relax

Wonder if they receive too many orders they will cancel them again - Not again from that show of s**t!!

Just heading over to Shrewsbury to see Mr Wagner et al and will try and buy all from Infinity & Beyond - they will probably have a far better customer service element than FP

That's disgraceful behaviour from your local comic shop, especially as this is the primary reason that they exist!

My LCS - Sheffield Space Centre - were really surprised with the interest. They'd bought extra copies anticapting more interest but chatting to them today they said they'd sold out by end of Wednesday and been getting enquiries ever since. They were cynical about a few people turning up thinking they may well just flip them on eBay. Thankfully SSC understands the importance of returning custom over a quick win on eBay and had kept mine (and got me a signed copy of Steve McManus' book) and put aside one of each regular cover so I could get the one my sub cover wasn't.

We're lucky in Sheffield to have such a good old skool shop.

No Fabry variants at Shrewsbury and they also ran out of both the Chris Burnham & Cliff Robinson variant whilst the signings were taking place. Asked for a copy of the Meg to get one of those signed and they told me that the WH Smiths may have had a few copies. Don't think they were expecting such a decent showing. It did seem like a healthy queue for the hour or so that I was there.

Finally, the staff there were ultra friendly. If I lived a bit closer I'd call in to support it as often as possible.

I ordered my Fabry variant from FP online weeks ago. I went to the Shaftesbury AV store physically on Weds just to make sure. All they had was the Chris Burnham one (which I bought, having got the Cliff Robinson one as my subscription copy).

Just to be sure I phoned their customer services on Thursday to be told I was one of the lucky ones that hadn't been cancelled - as they has "received fewer than expected" . I would have been pretty miffed if they had cancelled it as I believe I ordered it very soon after it went up on their Website. Anyway they told me to expect it mid week. Here's hoping. Not sure it is "lucky" to actually get the item you pre-ordered and paid for. Surely the whole point of pre-ordering is so they know how many to get????

For good measure I have ordered the B&W one as well.

Just out of interest, what was the split of Cliff Robinson versus Chris Burnham ones available from newsagents and Smiths (I didn't see a single one anywhere apart from FP)?

The Smiths in Maidstone only had the Cliff cover and not many of them when I checked on Wednesday morning. There were less on display than the usual Prog, so let's hope more people went in earlier to buy a copy.

I was miffed - I ordered it about three days after it went up. Won't be using them again!

I don't understand why they did it like this!, comic shops are not 2000AD's friend (most of them don't normally even stock it!) and all it's done is encourage people to get multiple copies to sell on eBay, would have been much better to send the limited edition cover to subscribers!.
Title: Re: Prog 2000 Fabry Variant Cover

Then those subscribers can then sell those extra covers on ebay and people who don't subscribe miss out! Just look at Free Comic Book Day, the whole idea is to get people into comic shops and every year Michael has to answer the question, no these are not available in digital form. Events like this get 2000 AD noticed by lapsed fans, potential new fans and the media.

Comic shops need footfall and if you don't live near them then I'm sure you can have stuff sent to you. I know mine has sent 2000 AD stuff to a fan in Australia.

Well the prog 2000 party last night in Belfast sorted a lot of the Fabry cover crises...Glenn himself donated one and over the course of the evening five or six others appeared.  They were divided out to the satisfaction of all involved. I was even, thankfully able to keep mine, and picked up a copy of Zarjaz 2016 special from Pete Duncan and enjoyed the hell out of myself to boot!! Z

Granted, but subscribers are the lifeblood of 2000AD, not comic shops. so better to give them a desirable item like this imo!.

Which I'd guess (just a guess) is kinda the point. If 2000ad doesn't do great in comic shops, a major way of selling the comics (still, its not just toys, please tell me the comics are still important) more through this major outlet is to generate interest like this. I'd suggest its created its desired effect, but I'm not convinced many will have gone to flippers, some will sure, but many more will have arrived into the hands of long time fans and more importantly, based on what my LCS said people taking an new, or revived interest in the title.

Lets me honest while Rebellion has to keep subscribers and regular readers happy we can't be their priority, after all they have us. Its got to be more important (and of course were I say 'got to' I'm really meaning 'I think') for them to pitch to new or lapsed fans, that's the only way they'll build readership.

As a subscriber I can live with this, I'll make what efforts I can to get variants and what not when it takes my fancy, sometimes I'm lucky and get it right, other times I don't but I'm fine with that I'll always have the comic to read if not all the covers. More important to me is the continued success of the comic so I continue to have the Galaxies Greatest to read. So long may Rebellion court other readers, they know they'll drag me along in their wake and for once I don't mind being taken for granted to  much. Its for all our benefit.

My local comic shop (Mega City Comics, Camden):
a) had sold out by the time I got there
b) had my normal reserved copy and had also saved me the other wraparound cover in case I wanted it - I bought both

After today's visit to the FB signing I now have the sitting on 2000 cover as well :-)

Not hugely fussed about collecting variant covers - If there is to be multiple covers, then I'm generally happy to see what is what, and then try to snag the one that takes my fancy, which I was able to do from my local newsagent (The Burnham cover), - but Forbidden Planet was stocking all three.

They claimed that Forbidden Planet: London was the only store in the UK that you could get hold of the the PX preview exclusive issue?

So with them being freely available - (well, one copy of each variant per person) - I snagged the other 2 variants needed.

Ebay is the place you'll find a good few of these on sale from FP: London. Average asking price = £30/£40...

That's a really odd thing for them to say - it may be the only place *they* can get it (since their main buyer is there) but any comic book store should be able to order the reprint edition using Diamond UK's online ordering system.

Oh, sorry - I meant the colour Fabry 'PX' cover - which came out with the other 2 variants, not the forthcoming(?) B+W 2nd reprint version.

Bodysnatchers taken over Burdis, wanting less merchandise?

It's easy to see why it's done - especially for merchandise where the moulds are done and it's just a new paint job and packaging.

It also allows for companies to get exclusives.

But then I'm not stricken by the collecting bug, I just got prog 2000 digitally :D

It would be an interesting experiment to have multiple artists attempt, the same Dredd script for the 40th - that would be slightly different.

Of course an evil person would suggest a three-part Dredd that appears in one of each variant.

I'm glad to hear that the #2000 prog has been a success for Rebellion but there is no doubting that it has been a pain in the arse for me. I probably should have been better prepared but the shops sold out of copies super quick (not helped by the fact that the variants encourage multiple purchases) and folks just seem to be going crazy with this.  I can't even get angry with the scalpers on ebay as its all so unbelievable what some of the progs are selling for.

Still, I've put a pre order on FP for the reprint so I might get lucky with that otherwise its a nice hole in my prog collection where #2000 should be.

The B+W reprint cover is still available from Forbidden Planet if anyone still needs a copy and doesn't want to pay Ebay prices!

They had initially sold out of these, but obviously they have found some additional stock. Which is of course rather grand. Limited to 1,500 copies?

Pre-ordered mine the other week, so all going well, it'll be here in a day or two.

FP cardiff had quite a few on the shelf so I picked up one this morning.  Also stumbling across a copy of Luther Arkwright Arkeology in Trout Mark in the 10p bin!  Result!

Liking the paper stock for the Fabry B&W variant, more like card-reminds me of those old Hamlyn GN's.

Thanks for the heads up. Snagged me a copy. Only 2 left now unless they have more somewhere. The paper stock used really is lovely. I'd happily pay another quid a week for a regular prog printed like this.

Much prefer the paper, hope Tharg would consider that this was a trial of sorts?

Proud Lion in Cheltenham had quite a few copies this morning if anyone is still looking for sane prices on this one.

Mega-City Comics in Camden has five or six copies of the greyscale Glenn Fabry, as of about half an hour ago.

And my copy of the 2nd printing arrived today, so that's the set complete*
Hoping to get a good few signatures on these at Thought Bubble.

Which will mean I can take it - slightly - easier at the 40th bash.  ;)

*Unless Tharg is planning a 3rd printing....

In terms of sales you couldn't use a trial of a once-in-39-and-a-half-years sell-out run reprint as a trial...

Yes, cracking paper type used on the 2nd print. I'd have some more of that, as well please.

Picked up my B&W Fabry variant from the local sorting office today, to complete the set.

As others have mentioned it has different ( higher quality) paper. It has a matt finish which makes the art look kinda different. Oh and it smells as well - a bit like a new car smell.

Also the Cliff Robinson poster has been stapled the other (right) way around so you can actually see it all with out detaching it!!! ( Now there's innovation for you).

There was a tonne of these at the 2000ad table at Thought Bubble yesterday.
If peeps are trying to track these down, Tharg may have copies left? Worth a try.

That's annoying. The futureshop only has digital editions available.  :(

Well, TB runs today as well. Once it's all out of the way, then maybe what - if anything - is left, will pop up on the store.

Over to you, Tharg...

For those who live in London, Mega City Comics in Camden has a pile of about nine or ten of the B&W Glenn Fabry variant (not at marked-up price).

For those who live outside London, they do mail order.

The amount of people asking for the colour and B/W. versions of  prog 2000 is staggering.  I was talking to a dude in FP and he said since prog 2000 they can't get enough issues of any prog ordered in! Wow!! Z

The values being asked on ebay at the moment for the B&W are ludicrous but I guess someone is always going to have a go.  FP Cardiff had a solid stack of about 10 copies on Saturday when I looked so it seems that the bubble has yet to fully burst online.  I doubt it will be long though.

Nice to hear that it seems to have impacted on sales and certainly the most recent week's was absent from the shelf and a paltry single copy of the previous weeks.  Further back though there was a healthy selection.  If it is resulting in a wider audience then all power.

I just hope that Rebellion give a little more love to subscribers going forward.  Not so much a freebie but perhaps the option of selecting variants at cost.  Would be nice to see some recognition of loyalty.
