Are you serious? No less a person than Alan Moore in the only instance of anyone other than Pat writing the ABCs, giving us one of Hammerstein's best-ever turns in the spotlight and a fascinating hint at the direction the strip could have gone in someone else's hands; the Nemesis the Warlock epilogue, softening the abrupt end to that saga and providing an invaluable look at how Termight society adjusts to life after Torquemada with superb Henry Flint gonzo artwork; plus cracking full-colour Dillon and Walker lusciousness?

Honestly, the only one of the four stories I don't rate too highly is the Joe Pineapples one, but even that's not bad per se, just nothing special.

Red Planet Blues is genuinely my second favorite ABC Warriors story of all time (2nd only to The Black Hole).
In fact, its one of my favorite 2000AD stories period.
Worth mentioning John Higgins contribution to the art too. I can still vividly see the depiction of that strange peaked Martian structure when I close my eyes.

Alan Moore huh?, I hear that kid is pretty good.  Sounds like a buy to me.

Thanks for the info!

Haven't read most of that, so am definitely getting this. That cover is fantastic, too.

With the announcment of an ABC Warriors case files series I'm a bit unsettled about splashing out for this now or hanging on for a few years and see if it gets collected in that.

Where did you see that announcement?  Link?

I would buy the shit out of an ABC Warriors Case Files.

Well then.  That's at least eight books that I wasn't planning on purchasing, but will be purchasing in 2014.   :o

Excellent catalog, though I wish they would list which episodes (progs) were included in each book.  I'm sweating in anticipation of how much I want those ABC Warriors hardbacks on my shelf.

Red Planet Blues was one of the mist melancholy stories I read as a child.  I wasn't old enough to understand how it was different but I knew it was.

Anyone have any info on why the Hammerstein MC-1 story didn't make it in?

Would have been nice thematically, but that was a Judge Dredd story (I assume it will be included in the Case Files).

Of course. I'm still scratching my head trying to think of what JD does in it!  :o

Hmm - bit of a strange one - I don't think there's any specific film licensing issues, and Top Dog appears in both the Case Files and the Agency Files.

I understand that the MC-1 Hammerstein story is a different Hammerstein droid and is not part of the ABC Warriors storyline.
Also Pat Mills is not a fan of this story

It won't appear in the Case Files, I believe, as it was not part of the main Dredd strip in 2000 AD (it was an extra strip).

So is this one a candidate for the restricted files, or is it a story that there is no particular urgency to reprint?  I don't recall it's quality.

Does anyone know how well it fits in with the overall timeline?  Especially with the Hammersteins showing up in Savage, and their actual timeline being fleshed out.

I doubt very much whether we'll bother - it's ... an odd one.

And with this simple statement, Molcher unwittingly created the holy grail of the reprint-everything community.

Aw, dang!

In all seriousness - and without wishing to spark an uproar - I'd actually really been looking forward to reading that Dredd / Hammerstein story at some point. Oh well...

Still, I'm glad of this thread's reminder that I need to pick up the restricted files.

Shame, it has some good Brashill art - I haven't read it in a long while, and I don't remember it being terrible - or even that odd, compared to some strips which have been reprinted.

Speaking as an owner of the original progs with the strip having swapped speech balloons (with Durham Red, was it?) on one page, you're not wrong!

Yeah, I remember that.
Another reason to reprint, if not for Brashills lush art alone.

Oddly around 50% of ABC Warriors/Ro-busters related material has been printed in France, and "hamerstein" is a part of it! It has indeed his own volume!  ::)

I will look into it, but I don't have the original prog, what's the page (from the beginning of the story) and panels?

Heh, I was joking - I'm sure they would have.

I can't remember what the panels were (might have been the very first page)

Nope, the balloon are genuinely alright (appart some grammar mistakes).
In this volume are reprinted:
- Dishonourable Discharge (3 pages, Kev walker),
- Hammerstein
- Nemesis'Hammer of the Warlocks (Clint langley)
and what's really odd is that these stories are artificially linked together as there were ... linked in the first place. So the Hammerstein story is presented as the origin of our ABC Warrior's Hammerstein but I am not sure it is the case in the original prog (as it contredicts some continuity facts).

Also note that the Nemesis strip is the only Nemesis related material ever translated and published in France.

Picked up the solo missions trade today. Lovely looking book. Both my girlfriend and my daughter both remarked how cool the cover is.  The Hammerstein story from the Annual gave me flashbacks. I was 14 when that was printed! Flint artwork on this is also incredible. I wish the biog of Tom Carny was a bit more in depth. Wonder what he's up to now?

I'm up for this collection. Though like the sentient Otter I do wonder if they will ever be collected in the complete Mek Files. But if they where, then surely Nemesis and Deadlock should be also and thats alread in the Nemesis trades.

Some hivemind detective work some years ago worked out that he had regenerated, Doctor Who-like, into Young Middenface artist Shaun Thomas - http://forums.2000adonline.com/index.php/topic,11342.105.html

It was odd, but it was enjoyable. It would be nice to see it reprinted at some point.

Will the return of the Angel Gang stories be reprinted? Those are odd too.
