Round 1 might require you get your thrill-banks tuned up as we drag some lesser lights of Tharg's Thrillverse out - though there are some stonking series in here it has to be said. And even when there's not, most of the ties offer some intriguing conundrums at least.
Two series that features characters who first appeared in top rated thrills in the Prog and went on to their own place in the sun.
NOTE: Young Death is considered its own series and will appear in the tourney in its own right - so please don't consider it here.

Judge Death
Judge Death.
Judge Death
So for the purposes of this tourney, what exactly are we counting as 'Judge Death'? If 'Young Death' is excluded, that leaves... what, the Frazer Irving stories?
I believe that Young Death storyline is part off Judge Death
There's the Fraser Irving story, Wilderness Years and a few one offs. There's a list on the linkie below (excluding Young Death which I'm treating like Cadet Dredd and Anderson, even Young Middenface).

Death's solo stories include the classic Tea With Mrs Gunderson so my vote is for Judge Death.

Thanks, but it will still not change my vote
To be fair to everyone I knew they'd be controversay about some decisions has to include / exclude, or how to include some stories... thought I might get past day 2 though!
sd vs jd? wrong universe here innit.
tie.
So it's some so-so Death one-offs - plus one excellent, character-redefining pair of series - versus a short-lived Durham Red anthology series. Huh.
I think I'm going to vote based on how much fun I had reading the originals, and on that basis The Scarlet Apocrypha takes it. Who never wanted to see John Burns or Frazer Irving's take on the Strontium Bitch? Or Durham versus Captain Constanta's fiends, come to that?
Judge Death - I didn't like the set-up of The Scarlet Apocrypha - stories which by definition did not contribute to the wider Durham Red / SD universe. Though just to be contrary, I did like the similar apocryphal stories by Neil Gaiman between Alan Moore and their own Marvelman* stories.
* I'm not gonna call it Miracleman. I'm not gonna call it Miracleman.
The Scarlet Apocrypha
De'ath Young Death is a great story, loves the art too.

Young Death doesn't count here, that'll be a separate vote later.

Ah gotcha, guess I should read the description more closely! Just
Judge Death then, I've read a handful of JD one-offs and have enjoyed them.
So, my Judge Death (https://2kstages.github.io/AtoZ/JudgeDeath/data.html) data suggests this is mostly My Name is Death plus The Wilderness Days - some Wagner and Irving goodness from the the noughties.
Countering that is some Durham Red (https://2kstages.github.io/AtoZ/DurhamRed/data.html) alternity dipping from the Dabnett droid that I'm not sure even belongs under its own banner.
My vote goes to Judge Death.
Cheat's game!
Death
Judge Death.
Judge Death, obviously.
Scarlet Apocrypha I've never read.
Judge Death wins by default.
The Scarlet Apocrypha was great fun, and the winner for me.
Just today folks, just today. I'll count up in the morning so get ya votes in today.
Judge Death
A series of continual reimaginings versus a charismatic one-note character?
I choose Scarlet Apocrypha.
VOTING CLOSED
It all pretty clear here and while the variety of votes, which so delights me, abounds its our clearest victory to date and
Judge Death
Will err, well, live again in the 2nd round. Scarlet Apocrypha might be out, but Durham Red will come back and we'll see how she does there...
