Wow, those look absolutely incredible, real beauties! The sheer size of those books is a thing to behold. I have always wanted to try binding some other comic collections I have - seeing these really wants me to do it now (when I have more money I suppose  :)) Great choice of art for the covers too - great timing!

It's a pity Hogan and the editor of the day had such a falling out. His tales were slow burn, but he'd started to get a handle on Strontium Dog in a way Ennis never really did (the nadir being
Gronk killing a 'resurrected Alpha in a cave of evil
). It would have been interesting to see where everything would have gone.

Interesting, maybe Hogan's run will be collected, unless is was left unfinished as indicated.

I'll be reading S/D v.4 starting next week and will weigh in. I know Durham Red (a character I know only by name at this point) features in it, so I am looking forward to that based on what I have heard.

I heard that Strontium Dogs was of mixed quality (earlier in this thread), and since it isn't re-printed in paperback yet, I have not searched these stories outm but I don't feel like I'm missing out either (although seeing Gronk kick some ass might be worth the price of admission, be still my heartsies!)

To try to get as much as I can today;there is the Predator/Judge Dredd crossover, which surprisingly works;and some solid JD stories after all.Blackheart,a Shadow-like vigilante has his series for a few issues.
And Preacher starts.Yeah I like Preacher as much as anyone, but it really doesn't fit here. And then Sin City starts.
One issue of Megazine from the era has 1 JD story,Sin City:Babe wore red and Preacher.Judge Dredd is the odd man in his own Megazine.

This sounds like a low period for the Meg, I didn't realize that they re-printed American/Vertigo strips. I'm guessing this was due to time constraints, or maybe trying to capitalize on their success? Either way, I agree that those titles don't belong in the Meg. What a lost opportunity to tell real zarjaz tales in the Meg.

I'm looking forward to reading the Predator/Judge Dredd crossover. I will come to it in the case files eventually (on #19). Glad to hear that it works!

@Smith - "Not by much really.Readers are not keen on paying the same money for a cbr/pdf file."
Agreed, there is something about having a tangible book in your hands that makes it feel like more value when you pay money. Although I see the benefits (convenience/cost) of digital comics, I don't think they can replace the real thing, not for me anyway.

@Frank ' "Without even the modest name recognition of Dredd, I suppose Rogue Trooper is just a war comic trying to launch in a market place that's devoted almost entirely to spandex books from the big two"
I will never understand why the market here (North America) is so stuck on spandex superheroes. Given a fair chance by readers, I think Rogue Trooper could do great here - whats not to like about a genetically modified soldier in a future war?  I would like to see Dredd succeed here (and see them give rouge another shot), but I agree it is unlikely. Ah well, I am one of the lucky few here to have discovered 2000AD!

Thanks to the opinions of you lot my zarjaz 2000AD collection continues to grow. Based solely on the recommendations from everyone here I have made several purchases, and to my delight, they have been some of the best comics I have read (Kingdom, Jaiger, Glimmer Rats etc.)!

I'm conflicted as to what to buy next, but trust that you drokkers can guide me in the right direction. Below is a list of books I am currently interested in; make a suggestion as to what you think I should read first. I will buy the book that has the most 'votes' at the end of a few weeks (and post my thoughts after reading). If there is a book I should be reading that is not on the list, or a book that is on the list that shouldn't be, let me know! (Note: This list does not include Dredd, Strontium Dog, or Rogue Trooper as I already collect those). Thanks for any input!  :D

•   Flesh: The Dino Files
•   Chopper: Surf-S Up
•   The Complete Al's Baby
•   The Taxidermist

•   Judge Death: The Life and Death of...
•   The Simping Detective
•   Missionary Man: Bad Moon Rising

Presumably, IDW paid to have the rights for 5 years (or something), so not putting out a book would still be costing them money. Americans are never going to buy Dredd comics - at least this way Tharg gets paid for Americans not buying Dredd comics.

Wouldn't this notion apply to Rogue Trooper as well? They released only four (really good) issues and have done nothing with the property since.

It was the Judge Child epic, and Dredd had made notes in the mission log about Judge Lopez's moustache.

Thanks for confirming. Because of this I've always had an immediate bias against Judges with mustaches. As though they are somehow less disciplined than those clean shaven. A judge with a beard looks cool, but Dredd would record his lack of a razor in his mission log. I mean, I don't shave often, but I'm no Judge!

I took a good look and didn't see a thread for this series, only for mega city zero. My apologies if its redundant!

I haven't been loving IDW's take on Dredd, so here's hoping it becomes less complicated/weird and more...Dredd like. I enjoy Dredd too much not to give this series a shot.

Also, I'm not sure how I feel about his facial hair. It kind of looks cool (Santa with a lawmaker), but I don't think he would grow a beard. As I recall, Dredd didn't like another Judge because he had a mustache (I cant remember which Prog, but there was a judge who felt discriminated against because of his mustache. I think it was during the Judge Child epic if I'm not mistaken).

I do like a Dredd story in the Cursed Earth though, and if this has a Mad Max vibe, I'm down.

There was photocopied reference at the back for Carlos, with the bandaged traffic warden from Threads as the basis for Impetigo Jones, and a shot of someone's face with a massive Hubba Bubba bubble collapsing over their face for Max Bubba.

This is what I love about this forum - there is no where else you can get this detailed of an explanation. Everyone here always adds a lot of value to each discussion! Thanks for the explanation - Very interesting, and incredible that you have it in your possession.

I like to think that Max Bubba was run through Resyk and processed into bubble gum. Anytime Alpha wants to relive the the sweet taste of revenge, he can just pop in a piece and chew.

I am also baffled by this series as well. I'm not entirely sure what they are hoping to achieve by making it so bizarre and non-linear. IDW should just follow the formula 2000AD has established over the last 40 years.

I did enjoy parts of this series (mostly the first 6 issues and the mystery behind waking up in the green) but the ending was pretty confusing.
Why was it that Iggy was the grass and she needed to be destroyed before reality could be restored? Did Berger bestow that upon her - if so how and why Iggy?
Too many unanswered questions...that I don't particularly care are answered in the series.

However, I didn't hate the series; the art was great throughout and I am curious do see where it goes next. Hopefully the February annual provides some clarification and a new direction.

Except for that pesky third volume missing the poppy.  Why, Titan, Why?  Do you have no idea how painful it is to look at it?

Ahh yes! This drives me nuts as well! I am still trying to figure out how to create a sticker for the spine so it will match the rest! Maybe scan the poppy from another volume and print it out on sticker paper to make an exact copy? This comes to mind every time I look at my book shelf.
