Not sure it was ever really fine. But, hey: puns. In 2021, though, it’s pathetic and icky. Very disappointing from a Shift publication.

Well, neither of those is complete in the Prog anyway, so it’d be whatever we have so far. Perhaps Mills will deign to finish them off at some point, but who knows?

From a pure design perspective, Hachette spines are abysmal. They wreck the original art, have QC/QA issues that mean things don’t line up properly, and are abysmal from a UX standpoint. Want to read Skizz? Good luck remembering what book it’s in. Eaglemoss deals with this far, far better.

I’m surprised that tale wasn’t in the Dredd collection, given how much objectively crap material we got lumbered with. That was such an odd series at times. An entire book of crap, with an interview at the back with the creator, saying it was crap. OK. I get that you wanted to show Dredd’s world, but… why put in terrible books?

The 2000 AD series has been much better for that. Still, hard to see where Pirates would fit into a coherent Dredd volume (with Dredd having been clearly sidelined in this collection, what with many people having likely already bought 80+ volumes of that character’s exploits.)

Yep: next series is the last. Even the wallet of Bezos has limits.

Mine arrived also, having apparently previously been used as a football. First set with obvious dings for a while.

I like the way the company honours lowest price during the pre-order period. But it’s zero for three for me and HC pre-orders of late, and so I’m done with anything remotely limited in nature. The latest Amazon fuck-up was Usagi Saga 9 limited edition. Fortunately, when initial distribution issues surrounding that volume became clear, I made a ‘panic’ second pre-order a while back with Speedyhen, who did deliver. And, yes, Amazon cannot control distribution, but its sheer size means it should have buying power and secure orders if you pre-order on day one. That it doesn’t showcases a preference for ‘agility’ and ‘just in time’ over people actually getting the books they ordered.

Our wee dog turned 15 last month. So on the basis of that saying, he must be a VERY good dog!

Armoured Gideon is almost the only thing left on my wish list. I’d love to see it. It’s such a fun strip and the robot design is fantastic.

The biggest I think we’ve had in this partwork is Lobster Random. Not sure how many pages that has, mind.

Prog / Re: Prog 2233:Regened - Ready to face the law?

Mm. It’s hard to know where Dept K is going or where it wants to be. I’d assumed Black Science meets Dreddworld was on the cards, with the crew hopping dimensions and having adventures. Instead, it appears that all happened off-panel, between issues and they’re now back in MC-1. The previous episode was intriguing. This one felt like it was blazing back towards the status quo. I guess we’ll see over the coming weeks how it resolves and where it heads.

Yeah, with this issue in particular, I can’t see the problem. Dredd would be a perfectly reasonable flashback in the standard Prog. The Future Shock would sit fine in there too. Pandora is a bit of an oddball, but we’ve had other humour strips throughout 2000 AD’s history in the standard Prog. The difference is that most of them weren’t this good. Anderson was a bit flat for me (although far from the worst Anderson I’ve ever read). Dept K is gearing up for the main Prog anyway.

Strong enough as a Prog, if a mixed bag for me.

Great cover and solid Dredd. Probably the best Cadet Dredd so far. Anderson didn’t click for me though.

I though the Future Shock was fun. That would have worked just as well in the regular Prog. Pandora was entertaining.

Dept K was an odd one. It went in a totally different direction to what I was expecting (Black Science meets MC1) and so I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve read a few episodes of the full run.

I would love to see an Armoured Gideon book. And, let’s face it, this is the only way we’d ever get one, bar some kind of insanely expensive self-published custom job.
