Observations:

1. Interesting Byron brings up the MRSA panic. Whatever happened to necrotising fasciitis? That's sooo nineties! Or is it the same thing?

2. I think the Fortean Times webpage correspondent may be over simplifying. To calculate the rate of zombification, you first have to define your variables. There would be many factors involved: zombie speed, agility and ferocity, incubation time for infection, single or multiple sites of origin, etc.

With a single source and slow zombies, a clued-up armed response could contain an outbreak in a matter of hours. The ending of the remake of Night of the Living Dead illustrates this quite well. The scenario at the other extreme is the one from the remake of Dawn of the Dead.
