I don't think Punk Rock Jesus is that bad.  Granted, the way in which the themes of religion and media are being dealt with in the title are a little basic, and some of the dialogue is a bit wooden.  But the gorgeous art just about makes up for it.  You could say that the creator has bitten off a bit more than he could chew regarding the subject matter.  The last page of Issue 3 looked great.

The Adventurer

I'm liking Punk Rock Jesus well enough. I've made comments about its simplistic handling of corporate greed, religion, reality TV, scientific pursuit, and now the IRA. BUT, I think that might be the point? I'm still largely enthralled with the series, and the last few pages of issue 3 really changed my general feelings about the series. It really shook up the books whole dynamic in a way that I really like.

Also, I don't think Murphy is 'over rendered'. I think its sublime.

I've quite enjoyed punk rock Jesus so far, mainly for the IRA caricature and the art in the action scenes.

This week is slow, very slow.

BPRD 1948, fingers crossed the lcs saved me the varient cover.

oh well i just had to order the strange talent of luther strode to tide me over, seems like forever since the last Prophet.

Spicy Biscuit

Got my hands on Half-Century War #3. God the art is bloody brilliant and it's always great fun reading anything Godzilla.

The release dates always seem wonky. Can't seem to know exactly when it drops until it does. Luckily the lovely guys at my LCS said they'll let me know and keep one at hand whenever the other 2 issues decide to drop.

Peter_Quill

Last week I had like 13 books to pick up and spent around $50 on them but this week was very very slow. All I got was Chew, X-O, Harbinger, The Walking Dead, a my copy of the Megazine 328 came in. But they were all very very good books.

On a side note I have been really enjoying the art of Punk Rock Jesus, this last issue was kind of crude and not very thought in terms of getting his message across.

Mabs

My Saga TPB arrived today from The Book Depository! Amazon do not have it in stock at the moment so I was surprised to find it available at TBD. Looking forward to reading it! : )

NEW COMICS SHIPPING THE WEEK OF 10-24-12

My Pulls
2000 AD #1802 - Really good line up right now. Dredd's a little so-so coming out of the Day of Chaos Mega-Epic, but Brass Sun, Low Life, Grey Area, and even ABC Warriors are holding their own. Really love both of these covers.
2000 AD #1803
DARK HORSE PRESENTS #17 - After 17 issues, Finder finally gets a cover. Finder continues to be amazing. And though my excitement about this title overall has cooled lately, I still enjoy it quite a bit.
EXTERMINATION #5 - I'm of two minds on this series. On one hand its got a really great premises, great main character, and doesn't pull any punches about fucked up situations; but on the other hand I feel its not quite realizing its full potential, and falling into typical super-hero traps when it should be experimenting more. Still worth reading though.
FABLES #122 - Cubs in Toyland was one of the most fucked up arcs ever, how Willingham is going to follow up that masterpiece I don't know. But I can't wait.
INVINCIBLE #96 - This arc as really rekindled my love of Invincible, even if it feels like it should have been a Guarding the Globe story arc rather then taking up the main Invincible title. At any rate, next issue... everyone dies apparently. So that's something to look forward to.
MIND MGMT #6 - Done with this series with this issue. Just not clicking unfortunately.
MULTIPLE WARHEADS: ALPHABET TO INFINITY #1 - Oh yeah. Now this I can get behind. Brandon Graham ownzone. Fans of King City get hyped.
PROPHET #30 - Double Brandon Graham in a single week? Am I dreaming?!

I'm still liking it. As I said, conceptually I love it. And Nox and The Red Reaper are awesome characters. But last issue felt too... neat? Like they found a pile of super people just conveniently laying around in a post-apocalyptic world. Also Nox finding his sort-of-not-girlfriend was also too damn easy for something that should have had serious weight too it. Other small things like somewhat sloppy artwork and dull-as-shit cover design keep it from being a really great comic. BUT. I still like it enough to keep going.

Its no Hypernaturals. But then, what is?

Speaking of Hypernaturals as much as I love DnA I find this book to be somewhat jumbled and convoluted. I really like the idea of this book though.

Really? Because its pretty much everything I want out of a cosmic super-hero book. Best Legion of Super-Heroes comic currently being published.

My only small problem is that the 'B-Artist' isn't as good as the 'A-artist', and the switching back and forth in a single issue can be a little annoying.

Yeah, the characters just are not very well defined and the story is a little jumbled. Maybe in a few issues it will start to get more cohesive.  I have faith in these guys though. As far as cosmic cape books go there have not been many lately that have kept my interest. Debris, Prophet, Saga, and even to a degree Invincible have been giving me my monthly sci-fi fix though.

Read the first issues of both SAGA and PROPHET last night and enjoyed bot very much.
SAGA seems to have almost limitless possibilities - it feels as though the story could go anywhere. The art is lovely too.
PROPHET has an incredible atmosphere. It's very bleak and actually quite shocking in places. I'd say it's quite reminiscent of The Last American in some ways and also Planet Of The Apes.
They both seemed to be pretty full of story and were good value.

I also tried the first two issues of the digital-only Legends Of The Dark Knight which were really great fun and actually more appealing than the majority of the current 'proper' bat books.

PROPHET WEEK HOOOOOOOOORAY. IT'S ABOUT TIME.

To keep my buzz going there is multiple warheads as well.

i agree about Hypernaturals (with everyone) i like it, great world built up but too many characters and i feel i only really know the clone, gives them something to flesh out along with the great stories over the next few weeks though
