NEW COMICS SHIPPING THE WEEK OF 01-09-13

My (Physical) Pulls
2000 AD PACK NOV 2012 1808-1811 - I ended up reading all of these 2000 AD issues digitally, for two reasons. When I signed up for my digital subscription I got most of them as free digital back issues. And two, the excruciating wait was just too much.
2000 AD PACK DEC 2012 ( ONLY) #1812 - This is a really amazing issue. Over the last several months three Dreddworld strips; Low Life, The Simping Detective, and Judge Dredd have been building to their climax. One that crosses over between the three strips. Culminating into this issue long mega-story, Trifecta. What Simon Spurrier, Al Ewing, and Rob Williams have done here is nothing short of magical.
2000 AD PROG 2013 - The big jumping on issue for the year. New strips start here. Judge Dredd, The Red Seas, Savage, Amphny Crusis, and Strontium Dog. Not to mention some really cracking one-off strips from Absalom and Aquilla. As a note, these will all be my last print issues of 2000 AD as I've already made the transition to digital. And it is a wonderful experience.
JUDGE DREDD MEGAZINE #331
SHAKO GN - The Only Polar Bear on the CIA's Death List! Shako is just pure polar bear on human graphic violence. That's all this quirky GN is. I won't say I love it, because I really just bought it as a 2000 AD TP completionist. But its definitely fun.

2000 AD 1814 - Hey, the Mighty Tharg finally took my advice and released a 2000 AD preview that contains the first page of all the appearing strips inside. About time.

FAIREST #11
GUARDING THE GLOBE #5 - Last issues events were a real humdinger. Its really cool to see Hester not afraid to do anything to anyone.
SAVAGE DRAGON #184 - Decided that just switching to digital rather then trying to keep up with it in print was the smartest move for me. So its done.
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG #244 - Stricktly speaking I won't be getting this one for a while, because I'm still catching up.
STAR WARS #1 - Actually not sure if I'm going to buy this one right away either. I have certain questions concerning the possibility of Star Wars going to Marvel this year, and what that might mean to any Star Wars comics I buy through the Dark Horse app.
SUPREME #68 - Final issue. Seems like there is a lot to wrap up and not very much time to do it. But Erik Larsen himself is doing all the interiors... so there's that.
THE TRANSFORMERS: REGENERATION ONE #87 - Last issue's Prime vs Megatron battle was epic, and its final outcome ominos. This series is really killing it.
THE WALKING DEAD #106

Bit of a monster week, but more manageable once I take out the digital books I'm waiting on. And once I get through my 2000 AD print back log it will be a lot cheaper digitally going forward.

It's really nice to see some proper Star Wars after all the Prequels/ Clone Wars nonsense. I'm really tempted by this, but unsure whether to wait for the TPB.

I can't quite get my head around how much I'm enjoying this series.
The definitive Transformers epic, even for the most cursory fan.
Can't see myself ever reading a Transformers comic again after this wraps up, but its gonna be an enjoyable year.

Id agree with that Adventurer, though I'm still a month behind print to save the shillings, so am really looking forward to the Simon Roy stuff too- his art in the first arc was one of the reasons I fell love with this title.

Simon Roy is supposed to have a story starting in Dark Horse Presents this month.

Fun little bundle this week in my LCS, Judge Dredd aside (alas) not a buffer amongst them. I guess the biggest shock is my first Marvel floppies for an age. My resistance broke and the lure of Michael Allred art, a nice line up and curiosity about Matt Fraction broke me and I got and have to say really enjoyed both FF 1 & 2 its not quite pull list yet, BUT its getting another go and so far it'll be in soon enough.

Elsewhere DC has nowt to be jealous of, as even though my movement towards more Indie/ Creator owned stuff is going great guns they still dominate. Rotworld continues to entertain and as its ending next month won't overstay its welcome in both Animal Man 16 and Swamp Thing 16. Batwing 16 is so generic, a little cliche, but still I find it indefinably enjoyable, my guilty pleasure. Earth 2 has dipped a little from its fine, fine opening but its still a damned fine read and has more rope before it needs to worry. Both Morrison offerings, Action Comics 16 and particularly Batman Inc 6 are fantastic.

Elsewhere Fatale 11 is a great stand alone, though quite what it adds isn't yet clear and Planet of the Apes: Cataclysm 5 sets up the next arc fantastically. Boom's Apes books really are hidden gems and I really wish this series was doing better, as I wonder if it'll last even as long as its brilliant predecessor, some months it doesn't even make the top 300 books!

Book of the bunch though goes to Jonah Hex 15. I always enjoy me Jonah, but really this is such a blast. Mr Hex (as he's so often called) at his most pig-headed and determined, almost Dredd like and somehow Moritat finds a way to make his art even better. Even though this book is still selling about double what it did in its previous incarnation, I still wonder why its not selling twice as much. I mean why do people drop this book (or the previous run come to that) its consistently great.

NEW COMICS SHIPPING THE WEEK OF 01-16-13

My (Digital) Pulls
2000 AD #1815 - The Prog has been really shining since the start of the year. Everything is entertaining, though nothing in particular is blowing me away at the moment. Just strong and steady.
EXTERMINATION #8 - Final issue. This series too a curious turn last issue. I'm eager to see how it shakes out. Not quite the series I was hoping for, but still pretty good. I am sort of glad its not over staying its welcome.
LEGION LOST #16 - Another Final Issue. This series on the other hand has been a train wreck, and its good that its finally being put out of its misery. Hopefully something better Legion related will rise from its ashes.
MARS ATTACKS THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS (ONE SHOT) - Kind of a odd pull. But I grew up on The Real Ghostbusters cartoon, and IDW is going to start runing Real Ghostbusters back-ups in their Ghostbusters ongoing. So I'm kinda curious about it. I figure a nice one shot is a good place to start.
SAGA #9 - Oh this series. You never stop being crazy. I'm really liking Marko's parents as characters.
THRESHOLD #1 - Not sure if I really want to make the effort on this one. The New 52 has really started to try my patience. But... its Keith Giffen. Writing DC space characters. Those are like two of my favorite things. So I don't know. Probably will try it.

Hey an All Digital week. I'm really hoping this becoming the norm from now on. It sure makes being a comic fan easier.

My Digital Pulls

2000 AD #1816 - Current line-up is churning along nicely.
DARK HORSE PRESENTS #20 - After reading last issue, my immediat feeling was many of the strips running in DHP right now all feel like of the same. Lots of supernatural, crime, and super-natural/crime. All comes off a little dull. All except GAMMA. GAMMA is AMAZING. Apocalyptic pokemon. Who knew.
FABLES #125 - The big 125. Its always cool when a long running book hits another milestone. Really hoping they start to move things forward a little more. Cubs in Toyland was great, but now things kinda feel like they're spinning their wheels again.
JSA: LIBERTY FILES - THE WHISTLING SKULL #2 - Not as hyped about this series as I was last month. Something about the first issue didn't quite sit right. At least in comparison to previous Liberty Files outings. The JSA cast does not appear to be front and center at all. Instead this Whistling Skull and his sidekick are. And I'm not yet completely sold on if they're interesting enough or not.
JUDGE DREDD #3 - Ugg. This series is just not doing it. Frankly I'm finding the scripts to be really weak compared to the real deal. Which is really unfortunate, because this could be a lot of people's first exposure to Judge Dredd after seeing the movie.
LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #16 - The return of the Fatal Five keeps building up, but a new Legion Leader election is upon us. I've got my fingers crossed for Duplicate Damsel.
NUMBER 13 #2 - Last issue's artwork seemed to take a real down turn from the gorgeous look of the #0 issue. Which disappointed me a bit.
PROPHET #33 - This series is really starting to come together as a proper story. Which is nice. A like a book that can actually find a focus, and doesn't always have to meander around. But the payoff from all those one-offs is really starting to shine.
SAUCER COUNTRY #11 - Looks like this book is cancelled with issue 14. Which is too bad, it can be really interesting. And the artwork is divine.
WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP #53 - Giving this a shot. As a rule Shonen manga has never particularly appealed to me. Its all a bit samey. But... the digital edition (the only edition actually) is only a $1 a (weekly) issue. And has nearly 200 pages of content. That is an insane value. So I figure its worth trying it. Also a new series just started, One-Punch Man, which is about a super-hero who is frustrated about the fact that he beats every villain he comes across with just one-punch.  Could be fun.

WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP #53 - Giving this a shot. As a rule Shonen manga has never particularly appealed to me. Its all a bit samey. But... the digital edition (the only edition actually) is only a $1 a (weekly) issue. And has nearly 200 pages of content. That is an insane value. So I figure its worth trying it. Also a new series just started, One-Punch Man, which is about a super-hero who is frustrated about the fact that he beats every villain he comes across with just one-punch.  Could be fun.

I keep getting redirected to http://www.viz.com/apps?rd=vm on their site. Anyone else having this problem? Maybe something to do with them not having the uk license.

I can get to that shonen jump page but any link I click on from it shoves me to that redirect page I linked.

I did manage to sign up with the log in pop up on the sj page, but when I got the confirmation email, the link to confirm my email address went to the redirect page too!   

Ah well. Worth a try.  The sampler will probably show up on some torrent site.

Would be good if they can sort a UK license, sounds like good value (like Double Barrel, but neither of the stories in that clicked with me so I didn't buy past the first issue)
