Anyone pick up the 2nd volume of 'Uncanny X-Force' by the way?
I've basically quit Marvel, but would be interested to hear feedback from someone picking it up (Bishop's return has piqued my interest, and Ron Garney is a brilliant artist).

Yes, I've bought the last couple of issues. They've been fairly unremarkable, script-wise at least. (Art-wise, it has some quite stylish colouring at times.) At present, it's best described as a perfectly competent X-book with little to set it apart from the others bar the promise of a fairly eccentric roster. Bishop has thus far been busy roaring in a slightly comical manner, whilst summoning up demonic energy bears (link to the New Mutants' Demon Bear? Dunno.) Meanwhile Psylocke is swearing a lot.

Link Prime

Thanks for the feedback Greg....don't think I'll loose much sleep skipping this one!

I genuinely still miss Uncanny X-Force Vol1.
Was a top-of-the-pile read for a few years there. :'(

Greg M.

Remender is clearly intending on following-on certain plot elements from UXF in  'Uncanny Avengers', but it is not, thus far, in the same league. In fact, it's surprisingly overwritten at times - I get the impression he is trying to evoke a particular writing style of days past, but for me, it's not really coming off. I'm a long-time X-Men fan, but post AvX I can't really say any of the X-books are doing much for me. (On the other hand, I'm enjoying Dan Slott's Superior Spider-Man more than just about anything else being published at the moment by any company.)

Link Prime

That's the 3rd or 4th recommendation for Slotty's new Spidey book.
Must give it a go.

NEW COMICS SHIPPING THE WEEK OF 03-27-13

My Digital Pulls
JUDGE DREDD MEGAZINE #334 - The return of Dan Abnett and Colin MacNeil's Invasion. Which is a big deal, cause that is some damn fine space war action.
JUDGE DREDD: DAY OF CHAOS FOURTH FACTION GN - First collection of last year's big Judge Dredd story arc. Day of Chaos wasn't my favorite Dredd epic, but it was good. One of the best one-offs in a while gets reprinted here, Caterpillars by Michael Carroll.
WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP #61 - Working my way through this issue right now, good all around so far. Toriko seems to be getting strung out a bit through, but damn is it not stocked with weird looking guys murdering each other.
1) Invasion? Surely not.  :P
2) Caterpillars? Must check out a copy, but this has me a bit bamboozled. Wouldn't it have been in the upcoming Mutant GN instead? Or am I being dim...
3) Toriko's becoming a bit of a slog for me, just can't get into it. In contrast the flashback arc in Bleach is titilating my fan sack (sorry, had to). One Punch Man is still the biz mind, and i'm enjoying One Piece more and more these days. Though I assume the workings of the big three are to ahead for you to really give a damn by this point.

The Adventurer

Damn, I must have been asleep at the wheel. I guess Michael Carroll isn't in Fourth Faction, and I was talking about Downtime any way.

And yes, Insurrection, not Invasion.

Happens to the best of us, I once wrote a review on Zardoz and instead of saying Sean Connery played Zed, I addressed him as Simon Pegg on no less than five occations...now I have images of Sgt. Angel in a red nappy. I need my pills.

Opinions on East of West people?I thought it was a strong first issue, amazing art in places.

Fatale continues to be my favourite title - this arc gas been great and the WWII issue next month has been what I've been waiting for since the era was mentioned in the first arc.

Alas my LCS got shorted and so I didn't get my copy this week. They hope to get me a copy, but seeing how the Image market is at the moment I bit the bullet and got one for a fiver (inc postage) before they went to silly money. I feel a bit of a mug for doing this, and watch this be the comic that bursts the Image bubble, but hey ho, I wanted a copy and in theory if I end up with two I'll be quids in in a few months.

Anyhoo what was waiting for me at my shop was a bit frustrating this month. A few titles hit a bit of a bum note. Firstly and much to my surprise, given the astonishing form its been on of late I though this months Jonah Hex 18 was a step down from its normal heights. Not terrible, but nowhere near as good as it had been. Given where its going next as well... Battlefields 5 couldn't match the astonishing heights of last month either, lets see how this one ends. Wonder Woman 18 was a poor finish to the arc, wasn't convinced by the end at all. Still I think this is starting to feel like it'd benefit from a re-read. When I get the chance. Action Comics 18 on the other hand was a blast and I can't wait to give Morrison's run the benefit of a re-read.

The action of IT Girl and the Atomics 8 didn't quite work, but it was still fun and I do wish more people were buying this title. Batman Inc 9 was great and really looking forward to seeing how Morrison wraps his run up. Fatale 13 was fantastic and The Massive 10 (how come this is the and IT Girl seems to be the Image title of late that haven't been getting silly good numbers, not fair!) was likewise, if much to my surprise I wasn't at all happy with Gary Erskine's art. He seemed to be trying to keep thing too much in tone with Gary Brown's stuff and it just didn't work for me. FF 5 was a blast as they series has been too date.

Pick of the bunch though was Black Beetle 2 since this is now ongoing I've decided to pick it up. Alas that does mean that I'm still hunting issue one at a decent price (Hey I'd settle with finding a second print) and issue 0 but hey ho.

The Adventurer

I liked East of West quite a bit, its alternate timeline vibe, combined with a whole mess of characters who are also enigmas put it off to a good start. It does seem to be a series that drinks the Hickman "government is shady 'yo!" Koolaid. We'll see if that aspect gets more obnoxious in the future, but for now its intriguing.

BPP

East of West seems fairly standard Heavy Metal Sci-fi fare. The only part that really stuck out was the joke of 'why are there only 3 of you?'. Its good, but TPB good, not 'must buy now' good.

Bonus marks for the impressive 'leg shot' page tho. Who doesn't like framing a a full page panel through a nicely turned heel and set of pins.
If I'd known it was harmless I would have killed it myself.

Have picked up & read ASM 698-700 and Superior 1-6.
Great fun.

The only off-putting aspect: $8 a month is crazy for a 15 minute read.
I really wish Marvel would re-think their shipping policies.
Who could afford to try / pick-up anything else (even other Marvel books) every month if they were a regular Marvel customer?

It's $12 if you're following Doc Oc in Avenging Spider-Man too! I wouldn't mind half as much if the quality of Marvel's paper was decent, compare it to IDW or Dark Horse's $4 books and there's a big difference in stock.

NEW COMICS SHIPPING THE WEEK OF 04-03-13

My Digital Pulls
2000 AD #1826 - The current line-up is dynamite. Zombo is as weird as ever.
FAIREST #14 - Still need to get caught up, I keep staring at the previous 2 issues on my ComiXology wishlist and just... can't be assed.
HYPERNATURALS #10 - Last issue left off with a real WTF moment, can't wait to see what DnA have up their sleeves next.
SAVAGE DRAGON #186 - This issue we start to get into the heads of the notorious Vicious Circle, its sort of interesting to see the other side up close sometimes.
WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP #18 - This issue has a new one-shot comic called Sakuran (Tentative) that I was sort of excited about (I like one-shots), the premises sounded neat, about a boy who has an alien living in his head. Only then the weird looking alien
turns out to be a girl in a bikini
and I started beating myself over the head with my iPad.
