a quick check on Barney confirms issue 330 and 334.

There was a third floppy in Meg 335 as well.

But are we sure it is Downlode tales? I don't think the description really fits. For one thing Downlode is in central Europe not America.

Best Slaine stories are in Warrior's Dawn IMO.
That's pretty much how I feel about it. There's something about that early Sláine, with its energy and imagination

The more I think about this the more I agree.... I think you really should read Warrior's Dawn and also IMO Time Killer and  then Slaine the King.

Warrior's Dawn has had plenty of comment already and I've already mentioned Slaine the King...so onto Time Killer -

this start with Dragon Heist which is a great caper and moves onto Time Killer - which is very important to the overall saga, featuring the Cythrons, The Guledig and Elfric.

Don't be put off by the fact that the strips in the first three volumes are in black and white - they feature some of the best art ever in 2000AD.

Pretty much agree with IndigoPrime's choices.

I myself have just re-read Warrior's Dawn and it is just fab.

Personally I also like Slaine the King, but that is mainly for Glenn Fabry's art, which in my opinion is up there with the best ever in the Prog.

As for Stront, I started reading Starlord before 2000AD and have a soft spot for the Strontium Dog tales that appeared in there, which are in SD Agency Files 01 (minus the colour on the original centre spreads - which does detract a bit ). That also contains some top early 2000AD stories such as Death's Head, The Schicklegruber Grab, The Doc Quince Case and The Bad Boys Bust. These are classic Strontium fun for me and that is where I would start - indeed I would go for the classic run not the revival as a starting point. It's  not that the revival is bad - far from it - just that these early Stront stories are pretty much as good as anything in 2000AD ever.

On the downside SD Agency Files 01 also has Journey into Hell which I do n't rate too much and is quite long and it also features possible the poorest, most out of character Strontium Dog story ever from the 1981 Starlord annual - having recently read this for the first time I am trying to forget it. :(

Saw this tonight and I thought this was the first film where the 3D was integral to it. Normally I can take or leave the 3D but with this it was just awesome.

You really do get a feeling of being in space.

If you want to see this film, go to the cinema...some how I don't think it is going to be the same on the telly :D

Just wanted to say Hi to everyone.

The Prog has pretty much been an obsession for me since 1979 and hopefully will be for the next 40 years or so...just gutted I missed the first hundred or so and did n't buy them when I had the chance down at the original Forbidden Planet store on Denmark Street...still waiting for some of those early strips to be reprinted, especially Inferno and Dan Dare (pretty sure not all of that has been though I do have some Quality Comics editions with them in).

An essential purchase for me as well. Always loved it when these were re-printed in the annuals etc. Would like to see a collection of the Metro ones as well. I seem to remember an artist other than Ron Smith doing some - possibly Ian Gibson?? Does any one know?

The Complete Alan Moore Future Shocks is just an absolute master class. Sums up 2000AD for me. Stand outs are "The Last Rumble of the Platinum Horde" and "The English/Phlondrutian Phrasebook".

Some fantastic art in there as well.

I always get both, but have always viewed the Prog as the main publication. Indeed in the 80's I used to drive my parents mad tracking it down on holidays...wasn't happy till I found a newsagent that sold it.

That happens later in Dragon Heist.  Prog 337 is the first episode of Bride of Crom (art by Massimo). The previous week - drawn by McMahon-  Brainbiter is clearly shown as single sided. In The preceeding Beast of the Broch, Massimo draws it as single sided.

It has taken me 30 years to notice this - but has anyone else spotted the way Slaine's axe changes? In progs 330 to 336 it is drawn as a single stone blade tied to a staff. Then in prog 337 it is shown as double sided but then in 338 it is back single sided. Also on the cover of 332 it is double sided.

I get different artists doing different interpretations - which is pretty common on Dredd... but  most of these were drawn by the legendary Massimo Belardinell.

Doesn't spoil the story or anything...I just find it a bit strange.

Hi everyone

I am new to the forum but certainly not new to the Prog or the Megazine. Indeed I actually started with Starlord but much to my regret only started to get the Prog regularly 6 months later...missing out the Day the Law Died - doh!!!

Favorites over the years are Dredd, Stront, Slaine, Nemesis, Sinister Dexter, Dante...usual suspects I guess :)

I have been enjoying reading the reviews over the last few weeks - I certainly have got more enjoyment out of Brass Sun, Flesh and Damnation Station than I think would otherwise have been the case and thought I should get involved.
