Title: Deleting of accounts/profiles:
Post by: Peter Wolf on 12 July, 2011, 03:43:01 PM
This doesnt seem to be an active feature despite it being explained in the help section regarding profiles.I have gone all through the help section and on my account settings and forum profile so i am not clear what is going on here.

It does mention that Admin can disable or remove the feature so am i supposed to request that my profile/account is deleted or do i just let it continue to exist as an active account even if its not wanted ?

Not sure what to do next........

Any help is appreciated.

We don't let users delete their own accounts and, while we can do it, it has been decided that we won't be deleting accounts. The best we can offer is deactivating your account, which pretty much has the same effect (as we aren't going to delete posts) but it is reversible.

 :(

The account going into cryo sleep will have to suffice then in that case so hopefully i can find where to do this or do you have to do this yourselves ?

No worries.

It should now be done. There will be an email address around somewhere that you can use to contact an admin or mod here when you want to reactivate your account.

Happy trails.

Damn shame. You may come out with some bollix occasionally, but I've always enjoyed reading it. maybe see you back sometime?

Bad times.
So long Peter.
I dont get involved in any of the political/religious/truthy things around here so never really came across any of the 'issues' that led to this. Always hate to see someone go though, especially a long-timer.

Like, Van Dom, I try and avoid political and truth threads here, so I'm unaware of what led up to this. All the best, Peter.

Banners is right man you shouldn't do it! Not over something as dull as politics.

Christ, NO! This is very bad. Hopefully, Mr Wolf will return. I've met him, in the pelt so to speak, and there is nothing about Peter that makes me want him to leave this forum. Or for anyone to leave, come to that. Peter is as normal and as weird as everyone else I've met from here, no more no less.

Enjoy your time in the wilderness Mr Wolf, and come back with a full belly, blood on your chops and a bushy tail!

Hope I'm not to late to shove me ever-unwanted oar in here, but please reconsider packing it in permanently Peter - we mightn't see eye to eye on much, but I'd miss your contributions greatly.  By all means take a nice break, we've all done it at one time or another, and it does make a difference - but don't throw in the towel completely, or I'll have to come over to your blog and hound you there..

I'll point out that this is at least the third time Peter's left the board 'forever'.

...And hopefully not the last.  That's what you meant to say, isn't it Mr. R?   ;)

Yes - and, alas - I'm sure it won't be too long until he finds some pretext to come oozing back in the door again.

Just so that we're all on the same page: I think that 90% of everything Peter posts is drivel- and that's just the stuff that I bother to read.  That said, the fact that he says he's going, after being accused of bullying and threatening violence, is slightly irritating- in that he was clearly being bullied (and, IMO, the person doing it knows this) and he reacted to it in an entirely predictable fashion.

Where are the people that used to lecture about not poking Nestel with a pointy stick now, eh?

Putting their sticks away again, probably.

The hypocrisy of some of the people on this board makes me sick.  And that's not even taking into account the fact that most of them are guilty of posting their own tediously dull, off-topic rubbish when it suits them.

I also think that some people have forgotten what it's like to have a proper troll on this board- as opposed to somebody who simply has a disagreeable political view, while being (seemingly) slightly detached from reality.

Why-I-oughta... I will be at a conference on archiving and museum deposition on Friday 12th - I'll see you there... if you have the stones! (geddit)

Agreed.  But that's also not entirely a disagreeable situation to be in, and no small part of why I enjoy this board so much.

From my reading, I don't think anyone was bullying Peter, just calling him on some bullshit that got their dander up (and no harm), and I also don't think Peter was actually threatening violence, he was just responding in a very unfortunate way to what he perceived as a serious sleight (unfortunately a justified one) that he couldn't argue his way out of.  He's an excitable chap, and heat of the moment took over - that's a long way from an actual duel of Fin versus Claw  That said, I can see why people got very annoyed at the implication, and particularly the venue chosen.  None of it is any reason for a permanent falling-out.

Hello, Matt. I don't believe I was bullying him, but I didn't see why I should tolerate him either. I'm not sorry that he's gone.

You and I fell out years ago, and I feel it's a shame we don't seem to be able to get along better. I thought we were.

But that's okay. It's only the internet.

You see that's funny- because that's just the sort of thing I used to say- only you called me a bully for doing it.  Actually, that probably wasn't even the worst thing you had to say about me, but that's by the by.

QuoteOr for people who just don't fit in, are immature, or appear easy to manipulate into losing their temper and posting abuse.

Oh, sorry, that's "troll-bashing," isn't it? It's not just winding people up because you want to feel big.

QuoteI just feel that it's better to ignore or killfile such people wherever possible, rather than wind them up like it's a form of entertainment

Interesting and oddly relevant quotes.  I wonder who they're by?

I thought we'd gotten on pretty well since then, actually- especially given that you admitted that you hadn't liked me for quite some time.  Looking back at that thread today, I had to laugh when I thought of just how sick you must've felt when you realised what you'd done.

Still, as you say- it's only the internet.
