Crappy depictions of brazen hussies on the covers of 2000AD and the meg that's what!

May I ask you, does anyone need crappy art stylings resembling soft core porn?

It's embarassing enough buying a " kiddies " comic why must I look like a pervert too? The megazine is usually better but this month HOLY CRAP! I looked like a goth vampire pervo freak!

Enough I say.

I get a subscription, and even the covers that aren't remotly dodgy look like specially imported hard core porn when they're in their envelopes with the subscriber label.

maybe it's a plot to get more people to subscribe?
or it's all part of the retro/ nostalgia thing. Takes you back to when you were 16 trying to buy porn mags down the newsagent.

Pete, will you just pop in and get me one then? I never did quite get around to reaching the top shelf at 16. At that age most porn was to be found stuffed into hedgerows on the fringes of wasteground. Just like white digshite, these things now belong to a bygone age...

oh, all right. but it was all a long time ago, and fortunately I have no need for that sort of thing these days. The only brown envelopes that come through my door are from sodding Telewest.

I thought the cover to this month's Meg was really good too. Harrison actually DRAWING with like a PEN and everything!
Not really 'down' on his computer stuff, but still. Look at the Staples Stronty Dog cover - really cool - and nice that he got out his black ink and put away his paint-box.

But,bloody hell, the 2000ad cover was awful.
I don't really care if they put scantily clad 'babes' on the cover of my comic (this IS a comic afterall - this kind of pulp-fantasy imagery is part of the teritory if you ask me) I just don't want the cover to be crap.
Which it was.

This is true though - when I bought them both in the local newsagent, the fella actually gave me a paper bag to put them in!
So, yeah, I did feel kinda embaressed.

As I said in the chatroom the other day - They might think that you're somekind of horny-goth-bondage-porn-perv, they think i'm a horny-goth-bondage-porn-perv-lesbian.

Must be said that I don't mind the odd brazen hussy picture but when you tot up this weeks' 2000AD and Megazine t&a count it's pretty high.

The Megazine could have been a crossover issue with Heavy Metal Magazine. People having sex with robots in Judge Dredd and melon breasted goth/bondage babes in two of the other stories.

I'm sure mostly the women are written as STRONG female characters (but in the Dredd story I thought they were treated as whores or hags and a lot of the emphasis seems to be placed on titillation).

Was this just bad planning? Didn't some editor spot all the voluptuous vixens on display and see a theme developing?

Does this depiction of women put off female readers from joining the fold?

Like I said - I couldn't care less if they put semi-naked chicks in the comic (from the point of view as a woman myself) Slaine runs around semi naked quite alot too. Does that bother you as a bloke? Okay, Slaine isn't very titilating, but, y'know.

The Dredd story, I thought was really good.
How else are you meant to treat what is basically a sex-mek?
I'm sure mega-city firms produce a male version too! ;-)

but whilst im not bothered about the content of semi naked characters, heres a question

does such a cover actaully boost sales even marginally? or does it have no effect at all.
if its a boost ok now and then , if none, then lets stop it,
