TBH we used to do a lot of that when we lived in Tewkesbury too.

Not so much because of the virus though.   ::)

My work is setting up laptops so we can work from home. Last day of work on-site was yesterday, which means I'm essentially on paid leave (which doesn't eat up any holiday) until Friday/Monday, which is nice. I'll be going to work to pick up the laptop on Friday or Monday.

I confess I've been a bit lazy today but later I'll be doing a bit of clearing up. I have a nice computer desk in my room which is now covered in stuff. I plan to clear that off to give myself a proper workspace for next week. I'm not sure what I'll do with the stuff on it, mind you. I also plan to clear up my room in general, as far as I'm able.

Aside from that, for fun I'll likely be catching up on box sets. I also have PS4 games I haven't played yet, or played little so I plan to get into a bit of gaming. I've had the console for over a year now and only played on it about 3 times! It's not like I don't enjoy gaming. I just find it difficult to motivate myself as a) it's a massive time-sink (those 3 times I actually played for hours) and b) I'm a bit rubbish. It takes me ages to progress, and so I repeat, and repeat, (which leads to point a) get frustrated and it puts me off motivating myself next time.

Still it's a nice bit of kit, and it is time I got my money's-worth out of it. Otherwise I might just as well sell it.

Archived on YouTube, eh?

You do see some funny stuff on that YouTube.

For example, a sentient cup of teaavailing the entire human race of his boundless wisdom during our time of crisis.

I have *no idea* who comes up with this stuff.

Funny that, you see some pretty weird stuff on the mainstream sites too.  I mean, there's a video of an orange gibbon berating some poor Chinese-looking girl about how many Coronavirus deaths there were on 23rd March in America and trying to convince every one that the answer is "not one, no none, that's right, zero, zip, nada, not-a-sausage."  Thing is, what is even weirder is the same gibbon can be seen in a video from 1st March lamenting the first death from Coronavirus in America.

Compared to that, this sentient cup of tea thing is actually quite sane ...

I forgot I did this until my mate messaged me to say he'd received it. He's a huge Dredd and Krueger fan, and he was down in the dumps after recovering from an illness, so I drew him this DREDDY Krueger to cheer him up, and posted it to him in Scotland last week.

It's my first drawing of any kind for years.

clearing/cleaning the loft I found an end panel unused from when I had the kitchen fitted, a couple of bits of dressed pine, some dowels, mirror screws and half a can of black spray paint. Bash them together and I come up with this -

Then add the items from boxes stored up in the loft and you have this  :D

The Dredd was already there but I had nothing to display some of the guns & badges through the ages.

I would love to do a Rogue one as well but I don't have a spare wall  :D

Back to dusting and hovering now  :(

Amazing work here.
As for me, I've made a new sign for my boat  (also my home, now renamed The Spyglass) with the woodburning tool I bought in Lidl last year, and worked on my garden.
I don't have a garden.  I have claimed a piece of the wooded ditch at the far side of the canal, which can't be seen from this side and is only accessible by boat.  Last year I put down pallets to walk on and an inflatable sofa, hung up a hammock, some hanging baskets and solar lamps, and am now cutting back the weeds and roots that have grown since (but also lying in the hammock and drinking beer, and doing the disposable barbecue thang).
Also I'm learning about electrics on Youtube so I can finally find a way to fix my boat when things fuck up, which is often.

Cant' say I'm trapped, but I stay inside as much as I can.

I've been helping my grandfather with a bit of genealogy. Setting up family tree.

Also doing a bit of Wim Hof method now and then. Breathing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BNejY1e9ik and cold showers. Makes me feel really good.

Today I started trying out demoing some songs as well. Hope to try record them in a studio some day. Can't hurt to come with a blue sheet, instead of gushing away trying to explain the music in my head  :D

Not really trapped but still not doing all I used to do pre lockdown so this has allowed me time to complete another project.

Due to Lawless not going ahead  :( I had a few penny's burning a hole in my pocket so I commissioned the 3 metal plates shown below from a local artist (Sulaco Steel & Plastic) up here in Cal-Hab who does some cool stuff with a laser cutter.
I then had to figure out how to mount and frame to display outdoors under a canopy at the mostly sheltered side of the house.

Again as with my Lawgiver display in my earlier post on this thread I had a few bits & pieces lying about so only had to fork out on the spacers, cabinet joining bolts and the LED lights.

The progs I used as a backing were old ones I had purchased for another project and PVA'd onto marine ply and sprayed with a lacquer. I expect these to fade over time which should make the plates stand out more and add to the look. (I hope)

I prefer the white lights to the colour ones

Now I have to paint the deck with my spare time I have left as the football coaching is starting back up so this will eat up my "spare" time  :D

Curious: What sort of lifespan do you expect for the plywood/PVA/lacquer  combo?

Oh and roll on Lawless '21...

I expect the frame will last years as it's under a 2.4 mt canopy which I've stored a hardboard "cheap" pool table with only the table cover supplied and when not in use it's against the same wall the the 3 amigos are displayed. Only time it's got "wet" was a few years ago when we had drifting snow blowing in. I've had that table for 9 years now and me and the table are still playing as bad as it was the day I bought it 😂 So I'm confident my combo of ply/PVA/lacquer will last at least the same amount of time.
It's how much & how quickly the sun fades the print I'm curious about. In my mind the current print is a 10 and I would like it a 5 or 4 but how long before it's a 1?

(The best bit making this frame was the smell of the pages - it took me back 30 years 😩)

I too have my fingers crossed for lawless '21 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 Tentatively booked the hotel room already. Last year was my first one and I really enjoyed it.

Well after another (partial) lockdown up here in Cal-Had I've completed another wee project  :D This time I took one of the knockoff Hamerstein models from the Judge Dredd movie and added a few bits of milliput and model clay, moved a few limbs and added my own take on Kevin Walker's version of the great lump of metal. I know the perfectionists out there can find 101 things of what's wrong but I think I added enough to pass him off as an ABC warrior  :)
(I even added Hammersteins tattoo from the Volgan wars books just cause I like it)
I'll let the members decide.

Well I gave Row-Jaws ago in their latest lockdown. Most of it done pre Xmas then a break for the "festivities".
I based it again on the Kevin Walker version and hopefully got close. I'm pleased with the overall result and adds another to the team.
I'm on the look out for the right model kit to tweak for a Deadlock but if I feel brave one day I might try a Mongrol.

Apart from chipping away at that loony Lego Torque-armada last year I spent a fair few hours doing some linocuts.  Not something I'd done before but I really like the process.  I did a couple in 2019 but had a lot to learn so it's only recently I've been (fairly) happy with how these turn out.  From doodling to the final design and the cutting, inking and printing, it's a nice way to spend a few hours.  The printing is my least favourite part of the process, mind, since then I start to focus on the bits I did wrong.  Anyway, here's a few from last year...  (These are all test print pics; tweaked and cleaned up a bit afterwards but they give a good idea of how they ended up looking.)

Those are great Ming. I especially like the snail as it looks as if there's a hell of a lot of work and patience there.
Is it a huge time consuming process?

I think the bike one is very clever with the 2 colours and shadow.

Question now is there gonna be any 2000AD characters produced?

Title: Re: activities of the trapped
Post by: ming on 19 January, 2021, 03:28:49 PM
The snail took quite a while but is by far from the most time consuming one I've done - I don't really have a clue how long but maybe 8 hours or so to cut?  It takes time to get the design prepped to cut and there's definitely patience involved but it's a very relaxing process all in all - a good one for the weird times we're living in.  The one below took a while and really isn't very well suited to linocut which is why I've now done it twice (at least it improved a bit) and have three others planned along these lines.  Hmm.

During lockdown I caught a documentary on the linoleum manufacturing history in Kirkcaldy and it's spread through the world and it's down fall and it's current revival. At the end of the program the focused on its other uses and highlighted a local artist who done some excellent designs and I'm sure she also said it was relaxing/therapeutic.

This winter lockdown has been harder than the first one. It's probably the long winter nights and shitty weather. How ever throughout this pandemic I've kept a little bit of sanity and distraction with my wee projects which I've posted on here. Something to get me away from the telly.
Anyway, I've now finished my latest.
Taking inspiration from one of my first GN's bought back in the day I've taken the "pause" in the fist fight in Vendetta in Gotham. Especially liked this as it was drawn by the great Cam Kennedy.
I took one of the Dredd knock offs from eBay and made a few adjustments. I'm pretty happy with the results.
The Batman was a 10" action figure I picked up for £10 on eBay. Broke his legs and smoothed out the body armour that was on the figure with milliput. His cape was made from some model clay left over from my other projects. I'm not as taken with my results with Bats but as I will mostly be looking at him from the back, I'm fine with that.
I haven't done a base for these 2 as it should be in the playground and would end up too big for the space I have left. So, I've decided to treat them as "Elf on the Self" and I can situate them "paused" where ever I want as if they've been at it all night.

If anyone knows of model kits that are ripe for conversion please point me in their direction.
I already have possible kits I could tweak for a Dante, Sam Slade, the Harlem Hero's, Deadlock, Mongrol and Earl Reagan. That wish list should keep me busy for a while.
Hope you can all see the images.

Been busy since I last posted working on 3 projects at once (when one is setting or drying I'm working on another).
This one was finished first and thanks to my better half who commissioned 3 oversized badge/logos of my favourite characters for my special birthday  :D . They are metal like my plates I got done last year. All I had to do was inset them in scrap plywood I had lying in the hut. Spray painted the colours I thought would make them stand out the most and displayed them next to the metal plates (outside).
The other 2 will be complete before we are set free(ish) up here in Cal Hab
Enjoy

Those prog panels haven't faded as much as I thought they would over the summer

Patience my dear man they only had 1/2 a Scottish summer and it wasn't the sunny half 😂😂

But your right I did expect a wee bit more fading.

This is the 2nd of my treble trapped project spree.

This Character is from one of the story hooks that nabbed a wee boy all those years ago (what's not to like with Dino's & cowboys)

I give you my interpretation of Earl Reagan - with whip (tweaked from an Indiana Jones model kit)

Hope you can see these and enjoy  :D

Yeah, that's really cool. Flesh would make such a good movie.

Thanks Colin. If you like Earl then I'm sure you're gonna love the next one as it's the the most work I've had to do on one of my projects and so far I'm liking the results.

As much a film would be nice I'd prefer a "Netflix" style mini series of Flesh book 1 and they have to include a controversial the train scene when the wee sh** gets his just deserts.
If successful then we get Season 2 (Book 2)

Well this is my 3rd project completed in 3 weeks (although I had been working on them all at the same time over the last 6 weeks)
This last one you get 3 characters for the price of 1 project.
Sam - from a Han Solo kit
Hoagy - from scratch
Stogie - from a tooth pick
Pretty chuffed with my efforts especially Hoagy.
With lock down hopefully coming to an end this'll be my last post on this thread. I do have more conversions in the pipeline but will post in Creative Common.

Hope you enjoy my efforts .

That's awesome.  As scale-models go, it's a very good likeness of Harrison Ford, and makes me realise he would have been perfect as Sam Slade in his younger days.

I never thought down those lines when picking the kit to convert but yes he would have made an excellent wise cracking Sam

Well it's been over a year (unbelievable) since i completed the 3 amigos project during lockdown. As requested i will now post pictures to show how much the pages have faired in the sunshine.

Personally I can't see much if any change. You my disagree!

In one way I'm impressed they haven't faded but I was hoping for a bit.

I'll post again in another year (if i remember and I'll try and get the same shot) using original pics V the current year.

Well as us Squaxx in CalHab have been asked to limit our outside contacts I can consider myself "trapped" so as my kids got me a dart board for Christmas and Mrs McFad allowed me to set it up in the spare room/office instead of outside under the canopy where the old one is I whipped up my latest project.
I had a couple of bits of plywood lying about and used some of the old progs (low grade) which I had bought for a previous project. This time it was only Dredd and all coloured pages.

I still need to get a portable score board rather than a bit of paper. But chuffed with the result and I can practice in the warmth

Can't help thinking that you'll do heavy cube time if a peeper spots that!
