« on: Today at 12:13:30 PM »I've seen some people saying it's the best series yet but I'd challenge that. For all the above, still the best thing I've seen on TV this year though (I don't watch much tv) and I will watch the next series...I enjoyed every second and binged Volume 2, but there was definite weirdness around the ending. I didn't want Max to die (great character), but neither did I want her to be in a 'she died just enough for Vecna to win, but is still out there somewhere' purgatory. Kill her off, or don't. It's a cake and eat it situation. Stop at the cake. And Vecna's Jason Vorhees-like disappearance after being shot out that window was a serious eye-roll. It was all kind of a mess.
Neither did the Henry/'001' retro-fit work for me, despite raising the stakes nicely for Eleven. He's a much less interesting villain than the Mind Flayer, which it now looks like he...tamed? Captured?
I'm also a bit confused by the world-building. My assumption is that Eleven created the upside-down as a snap shot of Hawkins when she killed Henry the first time, but what's its relationship with the world that she actually sent Henry to when she defeated him? Is the upside-down the bridge between the two? And which one of them is bleeding into Hawkins, now? Or am I wrong, and they're the same thing, or something I just missed entirely?

We ditched Sky last year but ironically switching to catch-up services means we're exposed to way more adverts than we were on regular telly, where we time-shifted everything and could FF through the advert breaks.

(I haven't watched it yet, but wanted to drop a marker here for people, like me, who weren't expecting to see the next part until Friday.)

I have a less positive opininion but I'll still be hanging on every episode. The opening scene of Episode 1 took my breath away, I didn't see that coming at all, and it suggests certain things about the plot that are very cool. The first episode on the whole set everything up very nicely. It's awesome seeing Ewan McGregor back in the beard with his faux-Guinness accent, he really looks the part. The whole Jedi-hunting schtick, that they can't help but give themselves away, is an artful explanation for why the Empire so thoroughly obliterated even the ones who escaped Order 66.
But for me Episode 2 was pretty bad. Lots of improbable chasing around and, for a man who's trying to hide the fact that he's a Jedi, he certainly walks, talks, and carries his light sabre like one. As good as that young actress is, I don't buy for one second that she's ten years old; it was giving me flashbacks to the terrible mistake George Lucas made in starting Anakin off so young in TPM. Coupled with what I see as a few missed opportunities for added cool and some slightly dodgy effects, ep2 left me in quite a grumpy mood.
That said I must admit that it never occurred to me that Obi-Wan wouldn't know that Vader was Anakin, or even who Darth Vader was at all. Another cool moment.
I'm excited for the next episode, I hope it rediscovers some form and gives us the story we all hope it should.

I don't normally post on forums to say I didn't like something, but as a steady fan of most Nu Trek, I have to acknowledge that, apart from a few nice moments, Picard S2 was embarrassingly bad. To have an opportunity for closure on the Q and Picard relationship, to reintroduce the Borg, to have the chance to revisit Locutus and the Queen, to have Stewart, DeLance, and even Whoopie Goldberg all on board, and to come up with this lowest-common-denominator pre-first-draft level turd... Shameful. There will be a S3, but for the love of god, fire the show runner and hire decent writers so we can send Picard off in style.

Netflix still has a ton of content for us and a massive backlog which often gets as run through the telly. Ozark, Russian Doll, Arcane, Witcher, Bridgerton. Plenty of randomly entertaining films passing through, Stranger things on the horizon. We could probably drop in and out every couple of months, if we wanted, but for the cost, we don't.
We're multi-streamers as well, but Apple+ is the one we drop in and out of, and Disney+ could easily join that club in the time between Marvel TV series. By contrast Netflix has a huge diversity of content.
I will say that there seems to be a concerted effort in the press to disparage Netflix since it announced its subscriber drop. I don't quite get it. Perhaps it's irrational for me to feel attached to an entertainment service, but Netflix was such incredible value for so long, and now people seem to be celebrating the fact that it no longer carries the second-party originals as if we should all be overjoyed that we now have to subscriber to two or more other services to get the same content that two or three years ago, we got under one banner.

Well its very of its time isn't it. The depressing thing is that its time is my time and I wonder if I'd dated as badly. Don't get me wrong it oozes the chemistry its needs to work due to the leads being so damned sexy. It has numerous fantastic supporting cameos.
It is however over directed (if that is a thing), the time jumps feel forced and don't really add anything, except arguably allowing the pacing to work better. The freeze... frames are annoying and overall while a decent caper the whole thing is a little unpleasent.

I had no room in my life for another RPG and so didn't invest in ENP's game. Browsing the books at UKGE, it looked very well produced and I've heard good things from other players.
Unless the OP knows something we don't, I doubt Rebellion seriously thinks it can out-D&D D&D.

« on: 28 March, 2022, 09:21:59 AM »Yeah... a TTRPG based on Jenga... OK, it's innovative, but I'm not sure it's the right move. It just doesn't grab me like one based on the house system being used in Tartarus Gate might. Have to say I'm a little disappointed.It seems an odd choice for a Dredd RPG but don't underestimate the system itself. I've run a few horror scenarios with it over the years, and it works realy well.

I'm watching Alien Vs Predator Requirm next anyway... now that is dumb!It's dumb, I agree, and occasionally embarrassing in how hard it's trying to be Aliens. But it definitely has its moments. The queen finale is pretty great IMO!
