Books & Comics / Why I hate Saturn.
27 January, 2006, 07:32:04 PM
Found this in the library yesterday, if you've never read anything by Kyle Baker, I'd start with this. Funniest GN I've read in ages. The humour is "off-the-wall" without being contrived and it has the best ending ever. Also by Kyle Baker is You are Here and Plastic Man.

Read em' now.

General / To what extent would you tolerate
17 January, 2006, 07:40:55 PM
Almost all comic films deviate from their source matter in some way, as characters have slightly different names, powers, costumes, temprement etc.

If Dredd is filmed up once more, could you stomach a different outfit? What if Anderson was brunette? And Hershey was a Tek-Judge?

Well?...

Anyone?

General / Caballistics Compendium.
19 December, 2005, 07:23:14 PM
Are these all the current plot threads in Cab. Inc?
In no particular order:
-Ethan Kostabi all but runs the Vatican due to info on JC himself that would drastically screw up the entire New Testament.

-Jennifer Simmons, fiancee of Dr. Jonathan Brand, parapsychologist extraorinaire, is currently possessed by a rock-hard demon, and there is currnetly no feasable means of exorcising her/it.

-There's a highly secretive Government scary monsters unit that regulates supernatural activity in accordance with some sort of treaty.

-An incredibly powerful psychic is being kept on an obscure island under 24-hour guard. He has tried to make trouble for our heroes once already.

-Department Q, where Brand used to work is staffed, at some level, by vampires.

-Solomon Ravne has been involved in the occult for hundred's of years, and was involved in experiments in Nazi prison camps, he may have joined up in order to observe Kostabi's shenanigans.

-Ethan Kostabi, a Bowie-esque rock legend, has hinted that he knew Jesus Christ personally, meaning that he too is amazingly old.

-Lawrence Verse is under Holy Orders to kick demon butt (Not really a significant thread, but it might be more significant as Kostabi might choose to exercise more power over the Vatican).

Anything I've missed?

Off Topic / Late night TV is great!
03 November, 2005, 08:27:47 PM
We've already discussed the wonders of daytime TV, but what are the memorable classics from the early hours of the morning?

Me, I remember OutThere (Emily Booth), House of Rock & 4Music in general, and Red Shoe Diaries.

The last landmark I saw was this film called "The Players Club". It was about this girl who became a stripper to put herself through college after she fell out with her Dad. She went into the club a girl & came out a woman. It had Jamie Foxx and Ice Cube in it, and it made Showgirls look really, really good.

Any late night classics?

Both Rennie and Tharg have stated that we may see some of Dredd's supporting cast being killed in Blood Trails, the new 10 - parter starting from next week.

Who do you think will die horribly?

I'm predicting Guthrie and Rico

I say them,
You say ?

(Wait for it...)

General / 2000AD/2000AD Crossovers.
11 May, 2005, 05:20:40 PM
Imagine one 2000 AD strip cross-pollinating with another, to create a vision of 2000 AD beauty, and describe it here.

First of all: Desperate to regain the sight that was so cruelly taken away from her, Psi-Judge Shakta does a psychic search of the galaxy, but she finds a terrifying presence, the cosmic Avenger who quickly possesses her.

Yes that's right boys and girls, it's Anderson:Psi-Division/Shakara in

SHAKTA-RA!!!!

General / Swearing in Comics

Is it something you like to see? Does it annoy you? Should it only be used sparingly? Can you remember any good or bad instances ?

I say No, Yes, Yes, and "No good ones stick out, but most Vertigo comics have at least one bad example"
You say ?

General / Good and bad plot twists.
30 April, 2005, 07:26:55 PM
You know what it's like, you're reading a story, when the plot twists. You either go "wow" or you go "What shite".

Here are examples of both, from the same strip.

DEAD MEN WALKING.
Good: When the main character dies towards the end (The fact that I can't remember her name should tell you something). I probably should of seen this coming, but I didn't. When I saw this, I actually thought DMW was on the up. Never mind the crushing disappointment that followed, this twist was something that appealed to me.

Bad: When it turned out Blondie had been some sort of intergalactic cop all along, especially when she found out that she was working for the "Galactic Justice Authority" (Laziest name ever).

P.S. Sorry David.

General / What to do with Psi - Judge Karyn?

As most of you know by now, Karyn was vampirized at the end of "Descent", and it looks like she's not coming back.

My question to you, the board - reading masses is:

Should she return? And if so, what would be the best way to do it?

Also:
Who should Dredd's rent-a-Psi-Div Sidekick be now? Anderson? A new character? (I thought Shakta would of been the ideal candidate here, but she got blinded, never to see again) Judy Janus?

I've thought about these questions, and haven't been happy with my answers.

I say "dunno"
You say ?

General / Coolest moment in Rogue Trooper.
21 March, 2005, 09:19:45 PM
What, for you, was the coolest thing that ever happened to Rogue and chums?

From the original Traitor General arc, there are too many moments for me to pick just one, but in particular, the episode where Rogue fights thegun emplacements springs to mind first as summing up the ethos of the early strip, with Rogue cooly overcoming overwhelming odds with a mixture of smarts and brute force.

Well?...

P.S. In order to stop this from being yet another Rogue pisstake, (I'm looking at you, Virgo), please think carefully before using the following words/phrases: "Fleisher", "nads", "psychic helm", "The first Friday arc with Dave Gibbons was great, but then it all went downhill".

There's a time and a place for brains and guts flying everywhere, but more often than not, the pages of the Galaxy's Greatest isn't it.

My own nomination was the guy getting his head blown up in the last part of Blood of Satanus II, recent contenders of note include The recent Shimura story.

I say that,

Are there any renowned comics or runs that you've heard to be good.

I've never read:

Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol
Sin City
Alan Moore's WildCATS

Which should I read first.
