There's a game currently seeking funding on kickstarter called DREADBALL. It reminds me a lot of some of the early 2000ad stories, such as Harlem Heroes, Inferno, Mean Team, and the like.
Whilst many gamers are drawing comparisons with Blood Bowl.

I remember playing Speedball - a hyperactive dose of headbutts groin-kicking and chainsaws! It would have made Joey Barton weep like a wuss!
