If anyone was waiting on the stream today, sadly my computer said 'no.'

But then, after a full day of techie wrangling, I said 'SCREW YOU, COMPUTER!' and I'll be going live at 9:30PM instead.

Drop by and say hi, if you like. The game looks cool as hell, so it should be fun!

Quick heads up for a thing I'll be doing tomorrow that's come about at fairly short notice.

Over on twitch, at 6:00PM BST, I'll be doing a blow-by-blow breakdown of the recently revealed gameplay footage of HORIZON FORBIDDEN WEST.

Here's the obligatory promo image:

You can find me on Twitch via this link:
https://www.twitch.tv/totally_unoriginal_hde

We can probably look forward to gaffes aplenty, as this'll be the first time I've ever streamed on Twitch!

Announcements / Re: Dave Evans, R.I.P.
07 May, 2021, 05:31:28 PM
I've had one of those days where I stayed up way too late working on things last night and got up very late in the day. News of Dave's passing is the first thing I've seen online.

Won't lie. I've had to take time away from the computer to process. I met Dave in person once, at the ICE convention in Birmingham, and he was the kind of guy you instantly warmed to. An absolute gent. Unfailingly supportive. And really funny, too.

My thoughts go out to his family. What an incalculably sad loss.

EPIC SEASON FINALE POST!

My latest block of content ends with a bang tonight, with a girthy, fulsome (some might even say 'heavyweight') review of TITANFALL 2.

Watch it here:

Then go and buy it. You'll thank me later.

New video alert! WOOOP! WOOOP!
New video alert! WOOOP! WOOOP!
(Feel free to add some drum 'n' bass under that. Seriously - you'll thank me later.)

Continuing my sporadic exploration of console conversions of popular arcade games, I take a look at the NES version of ARKANOID. Basically breakout on steroids.

I remember playing a few different home computer versions of this back in the day, and being blown away by the expansion on the simple bat and ball formula. The Nintendo Entertainment System's conversion went a step further, as it released with its own dedicated controller, which SHOULD have made it the ultimate conversion, right?

Turns out the ravages of time didn't much care for that detail.

New video is up, folks!

Leaning very heavily on my 'I'll review anything, me' credentials, I dial things back considerably to look at a ZX Spectrum game that seems awfully familiar. It's almost like it looks just liek somehting else, but I can't quite put my finger on what...

New video is up!

This one took an age to do, because it's quite long, I had to do it around a load of other stuff, and I've also been taking medication for a stomach problem that's been knocking me out cold every five minutes. (What can I say, folks? Life's been fun lately.)

ANYWAY. Here's a look at a really interesting one. Quake 4 has only, to my knowledge, ever recieved one console port, for the Xbox 360. So I took a look at it late last year, and you can find out just how well it made the jump to Microsoft's then-new console in the link below:

NEW VIDEO ALERT! WOOP! WOOP!

I recently finished the second longest review I've put together. Now that it's out of early access for Patreon backers, I guess I ought to be airing it here!

I'm always trying to search out games to cover on the show that fit the definition of being 'interesting,' and this one certainly fits that description. FINAL FIGHT CD is a super whizz-bang enhanced conversion of Capcom's coin-op of the same name for Sega's Mega CD system... with an extra twist in so much as it wasn't actually made by Capcom themselves.

I dig into this one and find that, for an apparently simple game, there's a lot to talk about.

Fascinating stuff,  cheers.

Ah, dangit - I managed to miss this post last time. Glad you dug it, Tordels!

I have risen from my slumber!
(With a splitting headache. But that's by the by.)

Anyhoo, hope everyone's doing okay. Got something fresh to share here. My plan was to stockpile new videos so that I could maintain a regular release schedule next year, but seeing as the UK's in lockdown and I figure folks might appreciate having something to watch... NEW VIDEO! And this one's a genuine thing of wonder. It's a look at one man's attempt to de-make the ultra gnarly DEAD SPACE for, of all things, the ZX Spectrum!

You can watch the review via this link:
https://youtu.be/EhptNL5V_Vg

Some bonus info, which might be of interest:

This game is available as a legit free download from the developer. I'll leave you to do the Googling, but it's easy enough to find.

"But I don't have a ZX Spectrum!" you may cry, "They're ancient and knackered old computers, and nobody has them anymore, right?"

Well, even if you don't have one, you can still play this. I played the game for review purposes on my swanky ZX Spectrum Next, but the footage is captured from a Raspberry Pi running an emulator. There's no difference in performance at all. So, there you go... a possible solution for anyone looking for something fun to kill a few hours with in lockdown.

Enjoy!

New video thingy on the YouTube wotsit!

I managed to pull off a few insane technical tricks to bring some Commodore 64 content to the show. Behold... SUPER BREAD BOX!

This is a really fun version of a game you might have seen elsewhere, that ANYBODY can enjoy regardless of whether they own a C64 or not. Details are in a pinned post under the review itself on YouTube. Which you can find here: https://youtu.be/ZSda4KJcyBM

Just a quick note as well, for anyone around these parts who's been following and enjoying the videos up until now:

This video marks the midway point in the third season. I'll be taking a hiatus from the show for now as I need to work out a better strategy to keep it going.

I recently set up a Patreon page for the show in efforts to secure a little regular return for making it. Quite a bit of effort goes into making each video, and this step helps me to justify continuing to make new ones.

Sadly, YouTube as a platform seems determined to saw the legs off small ventures like mine, and I've seen evidence recently that my videos are being actively suppressed. So what I'll do for the remainder of this season is release new videos to my patrons as they're completed and stockpile them until I'm ready to put out one video a week for public view on YouTube. Then I'll be in a position to see if I'm satisfying their godawful algorithms or not.

This stuff always feels like one long, ever evolving experiment. So let's see where it goes, I guess.

New review is up today. In this one, I look at the follow up to a game a reviewed way, way back. QUARANTINE CIRCULAR, by Mike Bithell, plays with the same format as his previous Subsurface Circular, daring to tweak a few very minor things in the process. It's an interesting beast.

Mind you if I knew what I was doing and had a web cam I'd love to help you out.

After conferring with His Liquid Lordship, I've been told to advise 'the human weaklings' that questions need not be submitted in video format. So if you (or anyone else) wants to log a query for his consideration, you can always leave it in a comment under one of the videos.

I mean, personally, I lean in favour of not encouraging him. He's been INSUFFERABLE since he started gaining subscribers. Fancies himself as the next PewDiePie or something.

PewTeaPie?

I dunno.

A teasaurus, Shirley?

I'm told he prefers the term 'lord and master.'

And don't call me Shirley.  :P

That cup of tea has swallowed a thesaurus...

He DOES go on, doesn't he?
