Games / Zombie Army 4 to be Epic Store exclusive...
« on: 12 July, 2019, 02:55:02 PM »
News from Develop: Brighton - https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2019-07-12-jason-kingsley-epic-is-paying-through-the-nose-to-build-its-store

Just a month after Jason Kingsley told MCV he would need a "bloody good reason" to do an Epic Store exclusive, Rebellion Developments signed just such a deal for Zombie Army 4.

On stage at Develop:Brighton this week with journalist Seth Barton, studio founders Jason and Chris Kingsley spoke more about what provoked the change in tact, conceding it was "bit of an embarrassing interview to give" as a result.

"Generally I think I would prefer not to do exclusives but I understand Epic's position with it, and quite frankly they are paying through the nose to build their store," said Jason. "All credit to them, it's fantastic, and we'll take some of their money, thank you very much."

It was all part of the "attractive package" Epic put forward, noted Jason, who said the company was "keen to help support the game."

"Sometimes, as an independent developer, you've gotta take your chances," he said. "When something like that is offered... you sort of share the risk and share the reward."

It's becoming the pattern with Epic that they are splashing around a lot of money to secure exclusives, from lower-profile crowd-funded projects like Phoenix Point to higher-profile Kickstarter titles like Shenmue 3, all the way to larger titles from third-parties like Metro and ZA4.

I can understand the business appeal to a lot of outfits, but as a customer the Epic Store offers none of the features I want, and with the lower store cut and the money being spent on securing titles like this, as well as the investment in time, staff and money being put into Fortnite I don't see anything like feature parity with Steam coming soon.

I see the comparison regularly that this is just like Xbox vs PlayStation in terms of platform exclusives, but I think that given the bare-bones Epic Store and the apparent lack of interest from Epic in improving that (I think their roadmap for feature improvement had features due in April that still haven't materialised) that's a bit disingenuous; one is a mature store backed up by a suite of tools to make PC gaming better, the other is a launcher and not much else. For developers and publishers, the more favourable cut and the reduction of risk upfront is clearly appealing. For customers though...

Classifieds / Dredd trades on eBay...
« on: 13 July, 2018, 01:43:25 PM »
Trying to shift a few small bits and pieces on eBay, and I've got some Dredd collections up with around an hour to go. I'll combine postage on multiple items, so hopefully these will go today :-)

Included are The Chief Judge's Man, Satan's Island, Total War and Dredd vs Death, and I've got the first Charley's War Titan reprint too :-)

Classifieds / For sale: various Judge Dredd graphic novels...
« on: 02 June, 2017, 11:26:32 AM »
Hi, all

Looking to sell a bundle of Dredd collections. I'm selling:

Judge Dredd: Total War (Rebellion)
Judge Dredd: The Chief Judge's Man (Rebellion)
Judge Dredd: The Complete P.J. Maybe (Rebellion)
Judge Dredd: Satan's Island (Rebellion)
Judge Dredd: Judgment Day (Rebellion/DC)
Judge Dredd: Dredd vs Death (Rebellion/DC)
Judge Death: My Name is Death (Rebellion)

All books come from a smoke-free household and have been stored on a bookcase for years and are in very good condition (barring one small ding on the top of the spine of "The Complete P.J. Maybe")

Ideally I'd like to sell them for around £7 each + whatever the P&P comes to - I've got a nasty bill coming in this month! - but I can offer combined P&P and I might be up for a bulk discount if someone takes the lot in one go.

I don't always see PMs straight away, so if anyone is interested post here and I'll drop you a PM.

Cheers!  :)

Classifieds / 2000AD odds & sods (progs/trades etc.) for sale...
« on: 30 November, 2016, 11:33:27 AM »
Hope this is OK to post here! I'm selling off some of my duplicates on eBay right now to raise some Christmas money, and there may be something of interest on there for board members. I'd be happy to do postage discounts etc. on multiple purchases, so if anyone fancies a bundle of progs I can do better pricing than the individual P&P.

Help! / Bryan Talbot - creator-owned work?
« on: 14 November, 2012, 11:10:43 PM »
Hi, all

Working on a Talbot-related project and I'm trying to put together a list of his creator-owned work. Can anyone help? I was sure things like Luther Arkwright, Grandville, One Bad Rat etc. were creator-owned, but when I started trying to verify online I couldn't turn up anything concrete.

Many thanks!

General / Researching The Undercity?
« on: 10 May, 2012, 01:47:47 PM »
Haven't been a regular here for so long, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'll rely on the friendliness and gentle chiding of the forum regulars to steer me ;-)

Which Dredd stories or supplemental material would be the best places to grab Undercity info? I can think of "Cry of the Werewolf", "Necropolis", the Judge Prager tale from a few years back, "Judge Dredd v Aliens" and a couple of others, but are there any I'm missing? Looking for anything about how it was constructed, laws regarding it, general background flavour etc.

Classifieds / Dom Reardon - original commissioned art for sale...
« on: 27 February, 2011, 10:02:43 PM »
Finally getting around to the last stage of my clear-out, and it's time for me to (reluctantly :-( ) part with my set of four Dom Reardon commissions.

The theme for the four was "classic monsters", and the subjects are "The Mummy", "Dracula", "Frankenstein" and "Wolf Man". Each piece is A4 size and they were hand-drawn, scanned then digitally coloured and printed by Dom.

I've listed all four on eBay - links below - at under the price I paid for them. While I'd like to make a bit more money from them - twin girls are expensive! - I'd be happy to make something and see them go to a good home.

I'll be happy to answer any questions here, or through eBay. Cheers!

Classifieds / Pricing artwork (Black Siddha / private commissions)
« on: 09 December, 2010, 03:37:29 PM »
Hope this is the right place for this - been bloody ages since I've been here :-)

I've got a cashflow problem right now (twin girls, with another due in June!) that means I'm having to contemplate selling off a couple of pieces of artwork from my small collection.

I have the original SB Davis art for the cover of Megazine 202, the first cover appearance for Black Siddha, and a set of four colour illustrations of famous movie monsters that I commissioned from Dom Reardon.

I know how much I paid initially for these pieces some five or so years ago, but I'm not sure how to set a reasonable value on them now.

Can anyone offer some advice - and if this is in the wrong forum, please let me know and I'll repost!

Sad to part with it, but needs must :-(

I'm selling all ten pages of the artwork for the classic Caballistics story, Weird War Tales, along with one great page from the Pat Mills/Simon Davis Indian superhero tale, Black Siddha. I think the starting price for both is reasonable, and I hope they'll find a good new home!

Long time no see!

Impending nuptials (and lack of money!) mean I'm going to be forced to part with some of my art collection, but I'd like some advice from the rest of the board on how best to go about this.

I have the complete artwork for Caballistics, Inc. - Weird War Tales (10 B&W A3 pages) and, initially at least, that's all I'm prepared to part with (and that will be bad enough!). Any advice on where to sell, how to sell etc. would be welcome.

Games / Rogue Trooper: The Quartz Zone Massacre (Wii)
« on: 09 May, 2008, 02:09:27 PM »
Reef brings Rogue Trooper® to Wii

Reef Entertainment has confirmed it has agreed an exclusive deal with the UK Developer Rebellion to launch their 2000 AD character Rogue Trooper® videogame globally on Wii.

For those who donâ??t know the character, Rogue Trooper® is a genetically engineered soldier of the future, and is unique in videogames as he has an distinct armoury; a rifle, helmet and backpack, which contain the â??personalitiesâ?? of his fallen comrades, providing him the capabilities of 4 soldiers in one. A â??biochipâ?? is installed within each â??Genetic Infantrymanâ?? or â??GIâ?? from birth which then records their personalities and training upon their death. These biochips are then removed and can then be inserted within energized slots on a fellow GIâ??s rifle, helmet or backpack to secure them for their return to base and re-cloning.

Rogue Trooper®: The Quartz Zone Massacre is the story of how Rogue Trooper® and his comrades are betrayed by a traitor general on their first mission to an area on Nu Earth known as the Quartz Zone. Only Rogue survives, and joined by his fallen comrades within his equipment, he begins a journey across Nu Earth to find the general and unleash his revenge!

Rogue Trooper® is one of the 2000 ADâ??s most endearing characters. First appearing in 1981, he was created by Gerry Finlay-Day and Dave Gibbons of Watchmen fame and was intended to run only a few years, but fans continually demanded more adventures. Rogue Trooper® has also enjoyed many reincarnations as a videogame throughout the last 20 years, most recently as the critically acclaimed and BAFTA nominated 3rd person shooter on PS2, Xbox and PC.

The Wii version promises to provide even greater immersive gameplay with the unique Wii control interface where kill shots are more accurate and certainly more creative than its console forebears.

In addition, Rebellion has provided additional tweaks and polish to the overall game so ensuring the Wii version of the game is the very best yet.

Peter Rezon, CEO of Reef said; â??Rogue Trooper®:The Quartz Zone Massacre is one of the best games Reef has been involved with, and to win this contract for the Wii version is fantastic. Were taking a hit game to a unique console where we believe the exciting elements weâ??ve added will make this 3rd shooter a hugely successful Wii title.â??

Rogue Trooper®: The Quartz Zone Massacre will be released in Q4 2008

A late port, but interesting news nonetheless. Hopefully Rebellion & Reef will fix some of the issues with the original â?? the difficulty level, for example â?? and polish the game up graphically for the more powerful Wii hardware (though given the history of PS2-to-Wii ports, I hold out little hope).
