Quote from: Lorenzo on 18 October, 2023, 09:34:52 PMYeah, I think I get how the collector's world works. It can attract some peculiarly selfish types. I remember reading about missing Doctor Who episode collectors. Allegedly, there are still some episodes out there in the hands of collectors that the BBC don't have. The owners won't let the Beeb take copies and they won't let anyone else see it either. Not even at special BFI screenings. If the owners start asking mega-bucks then it's never going to happen.

This is playing out in an ultra weird way with the son of the writer of the first couple of epsiodes withholding permission from the beeb from putting those episodes on iplayer...

(but I digress)
God! What is it with the BBC giving family members veto rights over ancient broadcasts? There is no legal or contractual basis for this. They did the same with their Top of the Pops re-runs! They are scared of their own shadow.

Quote from: Le Fink on 16 October, 2023, 07:37:24 AMno Cry of the Werewolf or City of the Damned as yet.

With the omission of Dillon's two best series (™ personal opinion), I wouldn't be tempted meself.

To be fair, Rebellion didn't give an exact run down of the contents of the other Apex editions and it is still 8 months to go. The six page sampler they have put up so far does include a splash page from Cry of the Werewolf. I guess that is only available in the slip-case version as a flyleaf poster page. Will have to hope they put up some more info as I would also be disappointed if more from those two stories aren't included.

Quote from: GoGilesGo on 15 October, 2023, 05:05:15 PMA question for all owners of Apex Editions.

Where do you keep them?

Yeah, they are kinda ridiculous for storing or displaying. If I don't have one of them on my coffee table then they are "stored" in their delivery box underneath the coffee table! I'm hoping to include a specially made shelf in my office to show them off eventually.

Quote from: IndigoPrime on 25 September, 2023, 12:03:38 PMI'm a big fan of art that's stylised more than great draughtsmanship. So while I appreciate, say, Brian Bolland, I don't feel upset at having missed out on his book. And I'm not sure I'd go for one by Steve Dillon, for similar reasons.

I'm the exact opposite! Love Bolland and grew up with Dillon, so I couldn't be more pleased to hear that Steve is the next Apex Edition:

It's possible that Rebellion hold/held a copy of Tom's original font from back in the day, but there are any number of reasons why they might not be able to use it (not least because it might well be in the deprecated .ttf format, which a lot of print workflows will no longer accept)....

I think you meant PS Type 1 fonts which Adobe stopped supporting this year. .ttf are still used alongside .otf, the only difference being copyright control and max glyph totals.

Quote from: Max Headroom on 19 August, 2023, 12:24:37 PMThe measurements for this tome are 355mm by 270mm. Is this the exact same as for the Apex Edition books?
Good grief no! Those Apex Editions are enormous. apr. 48cm x 37cm. Notice the dimensions given in the webshop are actually for the box that the book comes in!

Off Topic / Re: AI as a Creative Tool

Quote from: IndigoPrime on 14 May, 2023, 10:19:20 AMI can't imagine 2000 AD will use AI art. But I have seen some writers (not 2000 AD ones) now arguing they don't need artists because they can do that part with these 'AI' tools....

Surely I don't need to point out that this was predicted a long, long time ago !  ;)

Pretty sure the "exclusive" editions are very limited print runs. There is very little margin on most of these to start with let alone 2000 copies of a variant cover version.

Tsk, tsk! You're missing the Rebellion omnibus edition from 2007. In its original-and-best black and white form! As much as I like the new coloured version I think it's a shame that it is no longer available in B&W.

Speaking of Ennis, has anyone read Sara? It's brilliant.

If anyone is looking for an excuse to get themselves another Christmas present, then I can definitely recommend the Deluxe edition of Sara. It's absolutely fab! Beautifully bound with a die cut cover, edge painted pages and an Obi strip on the rear cover, it really does look deluxe!

Announcements / Re: 2000ad shop 75 and 50% off!

Yeah, I've had that almost every time I order anything through the shop. It has been like that for months, maybe years. The problem normally resolves itself by repeatedly re-submitting the same payment order, with the same card, until it works! If you use a two step verification thingy, you can see when it has worked as the order value suddenly appears and you get a confirmation. Persistence is the required.

If you are looking for the missing page, it is actually the first page of part 9 (not 10) in Prog 2259 p.21.

That's unfortunate but, as Matt says, luckily not that much of a problem. Shame they couldn't afford someone to do a simple page count before press...
