Any Battle fans in the South West?

I popped into Forbidden Planet Bristol at the weekend and discovered they have four or five hardback copies of Garth Ennis Presents Battle Classics Vol. 2 (Fighting Mann) for the ridiculously low / clearance price of £2.99

'War Buds' springs to mind as a possible fit?

War Buds was the first thing that popped into my mind when i saw those pages. Emaciated ex Judge strapped to a bed and all that. However War Buds has already been collected in the Cold Wars trade.

I just re-read Rage in time for this match up. Fantastic pacing all the way through, peppered with some astonishing moments. Yes, 'Because I hate you' but even better is the split panel 'At Last!' thought, then spoken aloud through gritted teeth when Johnny finds the tattooist that will lead him to Bubba. In many ways a perfect story.

The whole notion of S/D agents ruthlessly working The Killing is a masterstroke. Add to that the incredibly array of characters, the despots edging towards their nemesis, the Osmongs, the ceremonial sacrifice (if you were a barber living on Zed, surely you'd take a year's sabbatical just before your 44th birthday) and you approach perfection.

and then there is that ending.

When I first read this, aged 15 I thought Alan Grant had missed a trick. He should have had Johnny throw the time bomb at Wulf and pretend to kill him, then he would get to collect the bounty AND the jackpot. Decades on (older? wiser?) I fully appreciate the power of Wulf's parting line

"Ve hunt men for money ja, but we only hunt der guilty. Killing for the sake of killing - Ve do not do this. Is sick."

The Killing

Here, every time it comes around, the age-old ritual of The Killing gets my vote.

Cracking line up.

I'll be there.

MM is wonderfully paced, full of heart and features a fabulous deus ex machina moment but The Killing is perfect Johnny and Wulf, perfect action & a perfect ending.

Quite enjoyed episode 2, especially, as has been mentioned elsewhere, Maitland's encyclopedic knowledge of the first hitter on her tail.

Dredd "You really do memorise all the Euro-Crime files."

Maitland "It's a hobby."

The Brit Cit Mechanismo was fun too, though the vibe and every line of dialogue come cut and pasted from Albelard Snazz

Anyone know what "Cannot access attachments upload path!" means and how to get round it?

Looks like you are trying to upload an image from the Attachments and other options upload.

Not possible.

you will have to host the image somewhere then wrap img /img tags around the URL.

My Maitland appearances knowledge is here: Judge Maitland

You know, just as I was typing my message yesterday, i stopped for a moment and thought 'I wonder if Funt has put Maitland in his appearance log?'. Bravo.

Nice background explainer and prologue here

I have enjoyed following Maitland for a long time, from her first (?) appearance in The Bean Counter, through Trifecta, The Small House and Control. However I am not a regular prog reader, just dipping in and out when the mood grabs me, so I confess I have yet to read "Carry the Nine".

It looks like that four-parter could be mandatory reading.

Is there is enough material for a future collected edition that features Carry The Nine, The Red Queen’s Gambit and all six parts of The Hard Way? Anything else that would warrant inclusion?
