I've had an email from someone who has been reminded of a Nemesis or ABC Warriors story by Avatar.

It possibly contains Nemesis protecting a species of passive aliens who lived in a huge
tree and the Terminators using massive bulldozers and killing machines to annihilate the
population.

Does that ring any bells? My first thought was Deadlock by Henry Flint but I don't think it is.

Nigel gave me some of his artwork at BICS last weekend to put on the 2000AD Artwork Gallery. Pages come from Strontium Dogs and Trash (plus one from Red Razors) and are priced at £20-£30.

Squaxx dek Thargo Andy Grannell is going to appear on the Fourth Plinth at Trafalgar Square in London this Sunday (20th September) from 8am-9am.

He is planning to support his favourite charity (Dogs for the Disabled) and proclaim his love for 2000AD. To help him achieve this Rebellion are lending him a Termight Replicas helmet and I will supply him with the rest of the uniform.

I can't make it to Trafalgar Square myself, but I think it would be great if as many Squaxx as possible do try to get there to show their support. Wear a 2000AD t-shirt, a Dredd buckle or badge if you have one, or even a complete 2000AD/Judge Dredd costume. The more the merrier. As it is, Andy may be getting some TV coverage, and if the audience contained a significant number of visible fans, it could really turn it into something special.

Please spread the word and show your support or pledge to watch on Andy's plinther page.

I've just added a new artist to the 2000AD Artwork Gallery.

http://www.2000ad.org/artwork/?choice=WAKE&gallery=NICKD

Nick Dyer has drawn 2 Future Shocks and 2 Judge Dredd stories for 2000AD, plus 1 Judge Dredd and a Tales from the Black Museum for the Megazine.

In addition to the 5 pages listed, I also have two pages from the Zarjaz Slaine special (pages 3 and 4 of A Deep Abyss featuring Ukko). If you are interested in either of these pages, please email me direct.

Other Reviews / Respect the badge
20 July, 2009, 09:20:56 AM
Writer Mike Atherton (@sizemore on twitter) has just blogged this review of my Termight Replicas buckle and badge here.

QuoteThese two items though are in a different league. First thing you notice is the weight. These guys are not messing around. They even manage to kick the ass of non comic fans. The detail is brilliant and they've immediately both become prize possessions.

I've just launched a twitter competition. If you already have a twitter account (at least one tweet dated 11 June or earlier) then all you need to do to enter is post the following tweet to your account:

QuoteRT @termight #twitcomp 1 Judge Dredd belt buckle plus 1 Dan Dare cap badge up for grabs! To enter worldwide retweet this by noon GMT 22 June

When the competition ends I'll pick a winner at random from the entries and post the result using the #twitcomp hashtag. If you have any questions you can ask here or on twitter.

Books & Comics / Jonnie Rocket by John Chapman
06 May, 2009, 03:48:29 PM
I popped into Videosyncratic for free comic day last Saturday and as well as chatting to the 2000AD droids, I met up with John Chapman who was promoting his children's book Jonnie Rocket (artwork by Anthony Williams. John Chapman appeared in the original Star Wars as X-Wing pilot Red 12.

Jonnie Rocket is a simple story about a boy who can ride his bike so fast it turns into a rocket. It's aimed at beginning readers (maybe 4-7 year olds).

John and I might be producing some Jonnie Rocket merchandise based on the logo:

Does anyone have any opinions on the following possibilities?

A 50mm x 25mm photo-etched shaped metal badge.
An 84mm x 54mm fridge magnet.
A bike bell.
A bike water bottle

Off Topic / Job offer: IT Technician in Oxford
29 April, 2009, 09:28:05 AM
Would anyone like to apply for a job working with me in the Psychology Department at Oxford Brookes University? Salary 27-30k, which may not be much for an IT job but working in academia has its advantages.

Click HERE for the job details.

The job spec is pretty vague but here are some of the things I'd like our next IT Technician to be able to do.

Set up and maintain a server running php/mysql, possibly in parallel with asp/msql.
Be able answer stupid questions without making the asker feel stupid.
Draw.
Troubleshoot networking and installation problems.
Use photoshop and video/audio editing software
Program in something like Flash or Visual Basic.
Know more about IT than I do :-)

Let me know if you have any questions.

Links / Facebook | Who Draws the Watchmen?
20 April, 2009, 03:11:16 PM
I'm been asked to help judge a Facebook Watchmen costume competition and also help out on a Watchmen art jam.

If you are on facebook and artistically inclined (which given the standard of the monthly art comps quite a number of you are) perhaps you'd like to submit a piece of artwork and/or comment on some of the pieces that have been submitted by others.

This sample Dredd buckle arrived a couple of weeks ago. I've decided to pay for a couple of minor modifications to it, and I'm hoping that the finished buckles will be available in time for Bristol. One thing I will need to help make that happen is some more preorders, so I'll keep the 'post free' offer going for a little longer.

If you would like a Dredd buckle and haven't already preordered one, what are you waiting for? Click HERE to go to the Termight Replicas site, where you can pay by PayPal or cheque.

Please ask if you have any questions. The final buckle will have a smaller belt loop and ball, and will have a slightly thinner shield area.

In order to stop the posting of large images on the message board which would require a horizontal scroll bar at resolutions of 1024x768, I imposed a maximum image width of 700 pixels. I know it isn't to everyone's taste, so please vote on this thread to let me know your views.

Links / BARNEY Chat
18 December, 2008, 02:09:05 PM
I've just recoded the old 2000AD Online chat room for BARNEY.

You sign in using your email and validation code.

If you use the same email address as you used for the old 2000AD Online then your old icon will probably have been saved. However, your display name is now the bit of your email address before the @.

I haven't tested all the functions, but hopefully most of them should still work.

News / Press Release from DriveThruComics
15 December, 2008, 09:22:15 AM
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

British Cult Favorite 2000 AD Now Available Digitally

Can you name a comic that has run for over 1,600 issues and featured creators like Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Garth Ennis and Grant Morrison?

For over thirty years, 2000 AD has been essential reading to British comic readers, yet the magazine remains unknown to many North American comic fans. Some characters like Judge Dredd are familiar to North American fans, but often more due to the Sylvester Stallone film than from reading the original comics.

Now 2000 AD publisher Rebellion Development has teamed up with DriveThruComics.com to make issues of 2000 AD available to readers world-wide by digital download. To celebrate the release of 2000 AD digitally, issue 1600 is available for free. Fans who have never checked out the weird blend of pop culture, sci-fi and wry black humor in 2000 AD can now expand their comic horizons free of charge.

Further issues of 2000 AD along with graphic novels from Rebellion will also be available for download.

DriveThruComics.com  features over 1,000 comics from over 65 publishers and creators available for download.

2000 AD is Britain's cult sci-fi comic, and has been at the cutting edge of contemporary pop culture since 1977. It's a multi-award winning cocktail of explosive sci-fi and fantasy, infused with a mean streak of irony and wry black humour. Imaginative, hard-hitting stories and eye-popping art have made 2000 AD essential reading for its legion of fiercely loyal fans for 31 years now.

2000 AD has been a proving ground for the finest young writers and artists of the generation, and many of the biggest names in comics today honed their skills within its pages. It has become synonymous with the very finest in comics art, and has won the Best British Comic award at the UK Comic Art Awards, National Comics Awards and Eagle Awards too many times to list.

Over a quarter of a century, 2000 AD has created literally hundreds of memorable comic book characters. Their lasting appeal has been proven not only in the ultra-competitive world of comics publishing, but also by numerous merchandise deals including movies, computer games, radio plays, action figures and merchandising.

A free copy of 2000 AD: Prog 1600 is available HERE.

General / BARNEY'S TOP COVERS
23 October, 2008, 07:48:24 PM
Since BARNEY doesn't offer voting in the way 2000AD Online used to, I've been basing the top 20 creators and characters on the number of profile views. I've just created a new page to show the top 50 most frequently viewed covers (including scans and merchandise) HERE. Since all covers were started from zero views about a week ago, the list is pretty eclectic atthe moment.

I've been given permission to create a fan site accessing the 2000 AD Online database. At the moment, it's basically a trimmed down version of 2000 AD Online.

Links / The Travellers: Shadows
14 September, 2008, 04:20:31 PM
The third story has just been uploaded to the Travellers' website along with a 'movie poster' style cover which Mark did this year.

The Travellers

As a quick intro for anyone who hasn't seen the site before, The Travellers was printed in black and white in White Dwarf magazine from 1983-86 alongside Thrud the Barbarian. The Travellers was based on Traveller the RPG, with many cameos from Star Wars and other sci-fi films.
