Well, that moves the book rather rapidly on to the "bloody essential" checklist, I think.

Ennis. Hmm. It'll be very interesting to see the selection. Personally, I'm hoping for some of the earlier and rarer Ezquerra painted stuff, rather than the more recent work.

Good to hear you got the book for a lower price. As for the Frazer Irving collection, it's somehow slightly unnerving to have Fraze's mug gawking at you from the spine, but the contents are certainly interesting. The biggest 'plus' is From Grace, which reads significantly better in a single chunk than it did when broken into six-page sections in 2000 AD. ALLB is also still great, although Storming Heaven itself still feels somewhat like a missed opportunity.

:: the ISBN code for the Storming Heaven collection is

And the ISBN 13, which they might prefer, post-January 2007 is: 978-1904265771.

::  I doubt I could post it to you for £4

Judging by the weight shown on another site (about 230g), the price of postage, taking into account wrapping, would be about £3.51 via (printed papers) airmail and £1.68 surface mail (small packet).

I think your comments here pretty much sums up my feeling towards Mills. I'd been watching his work slam itself downhill for years (with the nadir probably being Dinosty, although he almost managed to wreck Nemesis, tooâ??something I would have thought impossible around book 4â??and some of the Sláine stuff has been pretty awful), but of late he seems to have something of a second wind. The Sláine Invasions books are strong storiesâ??perhaps not quite as good as those early Sláine strips, but certainly as good as Horned Godâ??and they work especially well when read as single volumes. I'm enjoying Savage, a story where Mills' politics don't grate, and although some aspects of ABCW were a tad throwaway, and while the "book" aspect is a little irritating, I was perfectly happy reading most of the mini-arcs within.

So, although I would be perfectly happy to never see Mills write another Dredd tale, and while I'd also be happy for Rennie to be able to finish off his Satanus yarn, I certainly don't want Mills to vanish.

I spoke to Rian a while back, so I knew this was on the cards, although I didn't realise the form it would take. (He seemed to suggest a Dare reprint and then an "everything else" book.)

Still, looking forward to a book with decent repro of Dareâ??Rian noted that it's going to look a lot better than the old edition from Fleetway.

Film & TV / Re: RTD to leave Doctor Who?.........
13 March, 2007, 08:35:52 AM
I think part of the problem with the second series is that Doctor Who is starting to lose its fascinating element, due to too many stories being set on bog-standard Earth. I don't care if the stories are set on pseudo-Earth (with cat nurses) or with humans in deep space, but it would be good to at least minimise the number of shows in contemporary Britain. (The ones in Earth's past should also be a case in point, but these have generally been really good so far, and the one juxtaposed against a spaceship felt both alien and futuristic, despite a few dodgy elements in the show itself.)

It would be good to take the show slightly darker, make it a little more alien, and stop the Doctor gurning all the time and explaining how GREAT! humans are all the bloody time. Oh, and whoever keeps nicking random little bits from Angel, none of which work out of context, needs to be kicked in the nuts (or lady equivalent if they're not male).

I assumed the same, that the "panel" shown was a crop of next week's cover art. I guess we'll know soon enough, once next week's cover is uploaded.

I think Madonna improved with age, but like a fine wine left too long, she's well past her best now.

:: Do you still have Stront and button man?

Yes, I doâ??on the shelf behind me, in fact. No emails have come through from you, oddly, and I regularly check my junk mail, in case something's gone astray. Anyway, a cheque payable to "Craig Grannell" would be lovely, and send it to the address on the Snub Communications website. I'd appreciate it if you could drop me a line (or reply here) when you do. Ta.
