Announcements / Re: Dave Evans, R.I.P.

Of the few times I met him in person he was the most affable and friendliest of people – simply a good decent soul.

A huge loss for 2000AD and fandom, a tragic loss for his family.

Thanks Dave, for everything you did to make 2000AD, in all its influence, a richer experience.

Film & TV / Re: Judge Dredd: Mega-City One - TV show announced!

I don't entirely blame some fans for having the expectation it would be 'made by now'. Not everyone pays attention to the details, or lack of, in announcements; or are aware of the very, very small percentage of projects that ever crawl out of the dark days of Development and into the green-light of Production.

Apart from the public announcement in May 2017 – which many fans would simply take to mean 'it's happening'– some of the language used in subesequent press statements implied things were in place and it was going into Pre-production – when as far as I can tell it has never left Development:

“It’s been really exciting to be working with Rob on the pilot,” Jenkins said in a statement. “We have a really talented team here at Rebellion Productions and I’m really proud of them. Jason and I have been busy looking at locations and laying out season one as we gear up, to move forward into pre-production.”

After that there was the collapse of their Mega-City One Production partner, IMGlobal, and Rebellion's own focus and mission has altered/broadened since then as they became facilitators of a large studio space and bought a distribution servicing company.

With an ambitious creation like Judge Dredd it was always, and still is, a matter of 'who pays for it?'

Film & TV / Re: Justice League: The Snyder Cut - worth watching?

You could cut an hour and a half out of Justice League and it would still make as much plot and character sense as it does now.

10% of the film is in slow-motion.

I only wonder how much additional shooting has been required for this cut.

Mostly consists of the most superfluous part, the epilogue.

Snyder assembled the cast and crew in 2020 to shoot one sequence which he has not revealed details of just yet and another involving Jared Leto's Joker. "First of all, let's just clarify, there's like two bits that I added," Snyder says. "One bit that I had really sort of hoped to shoot in post but never got the chance to and then one, that scene, with Jared. This whole little piece with Jared. The truth is, the rest of the four hours of the movie are really just what I shot.

The DUPes are bleeding like a stuck pig; they can't be seen engaging in any kid of constructive cross-border talks but the longer they leave discussions entertaining possible Reunification means if/when it comes to actually happening they'll be playing their weakest hand (probably a good thing). The smart play would be to make their deals with Dublin now but instead they'll push Poots out front and hardline themselves into greater irrelevancy.

You would hope the absolute neccessity for an all inclusive long term Zero-COVID strategy, so the island could open up and go about its business, would be the push for de facto Reunification – at least the idea of dumping Partition would then be about survival/common sense and less about triumph over unionism.

Thanks, Funt... or Linton?  I like to think that it's your surname, and your first name is Geoff.

The Geoff Linton?

My dad

Didn't quite make it out of this shitty year.

Never the news you want to hear at anytime. Sympathy to you and yours, Dan.

... there's some troubling subtext in here about that is never quite unpacked and ratified with the supposedly compassionate and warm person at the center of the story, such as how exactly does this person lecture anyone when her mission is exporting Themyscira's philosophy of an isolationist, martial society which ritualises violence, seems to have drafted its entire population into its military, and which teaches its children that they must fear the Other outside their walls who are perpetually warlike and would be pitiable if not for how dangerous and lesser they are?  "The enemy is both weak and strong" - I mean, come on now.

You mad!!! An actor doesn't get a Producer credit just so's someone can piss on their parade.

I wonder if Alan Dean's Foster might have improved it?

I read his treatment, it's worse.

The UK government chooses to withdraw from the Erasmus exchange scheme.

Irish government has stated students in Northern Ireland will still have access to Erasmus.

Their power is that they are in power and everyone else isn't, and their particular compentency to gaslight a nation with whatever information is available, is well observed.

I believe hammer met nail in a recent Rafael Behr article as to how BJ operates.
