I got the Ink Spots Best Of collection after spending too much time playing Fallout 3. And every 2nd songs intro is exactly the same! Until the lyrics kick in you have no idea what song you are listening to. And even then they all follow the same pattern.

Great album though.

See also every Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis tune. Those songs were never meant to be listened to as a body of work. They were heard individually on a jukebox or - more usually - on radio, and a recurring musical or vocal motif performed the same function as the MGM lion roaring or a Channel Four ident, announcing that you were listening to a song by a certain artist, so you didn't have to wait for the DJ to back-announce it or go over to the jukebox and take note of the details in order to go out and buy it the next day.

That's why Jason Derulo used to go JAY-SON-DE-RU-UU-LO at the start of all his records and the start of most hip-hop tunes consist of an ensemble reading of the PRS details of everyone involved.

I'm in a flippin' great mood today so here's a few to jump about to...

Rudi - Big Time

The Moondogs - Who's Gonna Tell Mary

Manic Street Preachers - Faster

Whatever happened to Rico, Dolman and Cadet Paris? I'm sooo out of the loop.

Can't go faster without PCP

Washing the nasty taste that the Manic Street Preachers left in my mouth with some good music

I don't even know what the hell I just listened to. Was that music? I must be getting old.

Atari Teenage Riot have been around since the early nineties. This has got a tune and you can hear the words.

Not at all. You're getting younger.

See The Reversible Man.

It's a dull day up here in rainy central Scotland so in order to brighten my day up I am listening to...

Teenage Fanclub - Ain't That Enough

Led Zeppelin - Over The Hills And Far Away

and so it's not a total sausage fest...

Yes, yes, yes.

And it got the treatment in one of my favourite books too.

Looks very interesting. :) I have some birthday money left over so I might pick up a copy.

Stocking up on new books and music, I've decided to start getting- in chronological order- the Joseph Arthur albums because somebody played Nuclear Daydream and more to me ages ago and I liked it. His first two albums (Big City Secrets and Come to Where I'm From) recently arrived and I'm not sure which of the two is my favourite as yet as Big City has a track on it with Brian Eno and Peter Gabriel offering backing vocals so there are bonus points from me there but there are elements in Come to that remind you of the first album in a way and highlights Arthur's progression in doing so. Off the strength of these two I'll order two more come payday, happy to know I've still got his Lonely Astronauts material to come as well as his latest offering The Ballad of Boogie Christ
