Round 1: 9 - Kek-W or Steve Moore - Ultimate Not Wagner Tourney

This time two writers at opposite ends of the spectrum in so many ways. One who seems to specialise in ranging, chaotic epics, these days with large ensemble cast. The other provides solid comics rooted in storytelling traditions and basic clarity. Though both very much have that 2000ad edge to their very different voices. Hard to imagine a more diverse pair in this vote. So which end of the spectrum do you prefer.

Kek-W, for the Deadworld series. Difficult one, as Steve Moore invented the Future Shock, and his Tales of Telguuth were inspired by Clark Ashton Smith and Jack Vance, both of whom I'm a fan of. But Deadworld has crept under my skin and won't go away, so it has to be Kek-W.

Steve Moore- because, along with writing many other things that I grew up loving unreservedly, he also wrote the criminally underrated Tales of Telguuth, which is one of my favourite prog things ever.

But much as I love Tales of Telguuth, Kek-W just has more to consider. Even his 'lesser' thrills like Second City Blues and Angel Zero are always sold, well constructed and very readable comics. And I adore the lunacy of The Order and clamminess of Deadworld (which I was against the whole idea of)... So it's Kek-W for me.

Tough one. Kek-W has been responsible for some recent favourites, but also some of my least favourite strips in the entirety of 2000 AD’s history. (I mean, Grudge Father? Come on.) Steve Moore was someone who I appreciated, and who created useful formats, but I never really cared much for his own work in a major way.

Kek-W, primarily for Deadworld and The Order, even if his work could do with being a bit more digestible.

Barney's list of Moore's contributions knocked me back a bit - I had no idea he was so prolific Way Back When, mainly remembering his second big residency in the 1200s; nor was I aware that he was responsible for one of my old faves Agent Rat. What a guy! I've also got quite a soft spot for Red Fang and Telguuth, but...

I've loved basically everything Kek-W has ever written for the prog, with the exception of Indigo Prime. From Canon Fodder II to Second City Blues (though maybe dodging Kid Cyborg), and his later renaissance with Deadworld and The Order, two of my all-time favourite strips, and some decent 3Rillers.  I even quite liked Angel Zero! 

So with nothing but respect for the depth of Steve Moore's contributions, I have to vote for man of the moment,  Kek-W.
