Three weeks and counting and some interesting thrills appear. Ones that I think are great and widely loved but might have one factor or another that might stop them going as far as they otherwise might? This Round I'm not sure this will be tested toooo much but good to see how they will fare.

Chopper is a right ol' mixed some of its great, some if it... less so shall we say. As a character though he's top draw. Straitjacket Fits... well... it has... Roger Langridge art...

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.

Match ends early on the morning of Friday April 22nd and the winner gets a place in Round 3 (of 9!!!).

What on Earth is ALL of this?

For those that need 'um and can be bothered to follow 'um there's some simple rules

When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.

Although I know Mr Bishop will be closely watching this one, Song of the Surfer is one of the all-time great Tooth stories, which would have been even more powerful had that been the end. It still means my vote goes to Chopper though, sorry Mr B.

That Langridge art really IS very good on Straitjacket, and a few of the jokes DO land, so it's better than, say, that weird Chopper story by A. Mackenzie where he races some surfers for no reason to little effect.

But if you like weird/funny Kiwi art, that one Martin Emond Chopper tale is kinda great, certainly I got more out of it than the latest McCarthy/Baillie efforts whch are pretty and well-meaning but somehow a bit dull.

And of course there are the GOOD Chopper stories. No contest. Chopper!

Blue Cactus

Chopper, although it's been diminishing returns for me when it's not Grant/Wagner at the helm. Something about the way they use the narrative voice during the action sequences is just so captivating.

Link Prime

The fact it can still eclipse the awfulness of the dreck that followed (and continues to follow) is a testament to just how great 'Song of the Surfer' was.

Chopper.

I thought The Straitjacket Fits was great fun.   But I don't think our Bish-OP will be upset or even surprised to learn that this will be a Chopper landslide.  Should have finished after the Supersurf 11 bloodbath of course but everything leading up to that was some of the best material Tharg has ever had to offer.

Another quiet one here, as much to do with how one sided it is as anything else I suspect. One day to go and I'll wrap it up.

Straight jacket Fits along with stuff like Soul Sisters and Calhab Justice were really lows for me in the Megazine

Early Chopper was great but the later stories after his retconned death did nothing for me. But he easily takes the win here.
