Off Topic / Re: What's you claim to fame?

Well my Mum's claim to fame is being knocked on her arse by Paul McCartney in 1963 outside 'Fox's' in Heswell on the Wirral but not realising until she had crossed the road to see her speechless, agog friends.

Mine isn't as good as that.

Going from left to right (God I hope I get this right!)

Darren (who was Judge Dredd at BICs), 'udge Palmer', 'Commando Forces', Edmond Behn, Greg Staples, Nick (who came up even though he had to make a fast escape to get to his sons Christmas Play down South somewhere), 'Large48', 'Colin_ynwa' (who is the only one of the perps, many will be disappointed to hear, who you won't see getting killed alas).

Missing is 'Banners' who was outside at the time dealing with serious head wounds.

Well home from the Minty shoot and what a fun day it was. Everyone involved seemed to have a blinding day and have to say its looking more and more exciting the more and more bits I see.

The folks involved are all not only very pleasent but also incredibly passionate about the project. A freezing day, for many (not me lucky!) a good while of which was spent laying on cold concrete somehow was incredibly good fun. Ed Dehn is a real gent and Greg Staples is a scarely good Dredd, even with his posh Yorkshire accent.

Steve and all his crew, Dave and other Steve are really fun, welcoming and nice to work. They all worked so hard and the costume and props from Dan and Barry were superb. The Kovaks Gang looked suitably grim and grizzly and all died with great gusto. I'm really excited to see footage when it comes. For the time being however when the rest of the boarders get home (they travelled from so far afield, I just hopped on the no. 69 bus!)who are all as nice in real life as they are here, I'm sure they'll post a host of the photos which I'm likewise looking forward to. I'm afraid I only had my camera phone with me so have next to none to share - sorry.

If anybody is able to get to any of the other shoots when they are arranged I can't recommend it highy enough.

Grand day out.

When I was 14, The Horned God was the only bit of female nudity I could get, outside of The Sun.
So now, female nudity in Slaine always makes me radiate with a warm glow of sentimental nostalgia.
Into a sock.

You really should have looked in more hedges.

Bit of a side step BUT since he was mentioned I'd love to see Klaus Janson on the Prog. He truely is one of the most under-rated people in American comics.

Interestingly, I hold The Beatles primarily responsible for the insidious modern-day notion that bands have to write their own material and that people who do covers or interpret others songs are somehow less worthy of appreciation.

Is it the Beatles themselves who would be responsible or people who admire them for setting the standard?

Music died in the late ninties when most chart stuff was covers or sampled shit.
V

Eh? Pardon me but what a load of auld shite! The 90's had awesometastic music, not least for me personally the whole grunge music scene which formed the basis of my music loves of today. It's like saying music died in the 80's cos of Stock Aitken and Waterman. Music is unstoppable.

Yep and the good stuff is rarely in the charts anyhow. Good music nearly always hangs out on the edges of the mainstream.

All I wasn't too keen on was the art - seems Rennie agreed with me, too. Apparently when he found out John Ridgeway was the assigned artist his enthusiasm for the project left him.

That's interesting I'd have thought John Ridgeway would have been a great artist for the strip. Shows what I know!

Well Diggle's reign got off to an interesting start. Ok so the new size isn't very good but the quality of the strips has been pretty good.

Red Fang is in so many ways a bit uninspiring. Its not particularly bad, but then nor is it that good. It had a couple of twists along the way kept it interesting, well interestingish. However having just got to the end I really want to read more. That was a great ending to a mediocre strip and I find myself wanting to know what happens next, as lets face it what happens when Phoenix gets out is a story worth telling, well it would be if the rest of the strip had been just a little better. Yeowell's art was of course superb as ever.

During this time (and to be fair throughout 2000s Prog's) Wagner's Dredds have been on fire. There been some nice little arcs but his done in ones have at times been some of the best I can remember. 'Someone in the house' (the couple waking up to find Dredd in the house and panicking) and 'Dinner at Shapiro's' (Parkhouse drawn Dredd again panicks some folks just by entering a building, this time a hottie house) are two fine examples. I don't often think to review Dredd's but they really have been superb of late (well in 2000) even by the strips own high standards.

Speaking of such things 'Sinister Dexter' has a particularly fine story in 'Shrink rap'. It has much in common with the best of Dredd. while its brillantly funny it has a dark, sad undercurrent running through it and the two elements are beauifully balanced.

All this and some good Steve Moore Future Shocks - nice to have it back.

Good start!

I had exactly the same thing happen when i went to the tax office and talked to the attractive Black woman about my tax affairs.

Surely sticking cotton buds in your ear isn't the thing to do when talking to a tax officer, attractive or otherwise????!!!!
