Title: Quarter Finals: 3 - Alan Moore or Alan McKenzie - Ultimate not Wagner Tourney
Post by: Colin YNWA on 17 June, 2020, 06:38:47 AM
Well the Wizard of Northampton seems to be summoning some curious snake God to the draw so that he meets only Alans. You never know how these things will go but I think I'll be getting to use my lyric change for 'Summer Nights' at the end of this one.

Alan Moore - http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=droid&page=profiles&choice=ALANM (http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=droid&page=profiles&choice=ALANM)

OR

Alan McKenzie - http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=droid&page=profiles&choice=ALANMC (http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=droid&page=profiles&choice=ALANMC)

What is all this nonsense you ask well we're finding out whose 2000ad (Meg and associated items) writing do you prefer? Voting - just add a comment here with whose work you prefer (and anything else you might wish to say to discuss their work). This vote closes some time early Friday 19th June?

Want to know more https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=46527.0 (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=46527.0)

Semi's will start early next week.

Again why do the Alans need to take out each other.

Gunslinger Moore takes down gunfighter McKenzie

I went for Grant over Moore,  but this time it's definitely Alan Moore.

The bragging rights for McKenzie end up pretty good: "Yeah, I was taken out in the quarter finals by Alan Moore - but if I'd got Garth Ennis..."

For once, it doesn't matter how good Summer Magic is. Alan Moore.

Alan Moore, as a full hand of Skizz, Halo Jones, DR & Quinch, Future Shocks and of course yours truly beats McKenzie's trump card of Luke Kirby.

Alan Moore's Halo Jones clearly trumps Luke Kirby, even if I have more affection for the boy wizard.

Um. OK. Moore wins 23-0 in the most one-sides game possible.

Would anyone dare, or even honestly believe, that there's a contest here?

Alan Moore

I imagine someone will choose to be contrary, just because. (No idea who, but have we actually had a 100%–zero contest yet?)

Quick look at the spreadsheet and across all rounds (inc qualifying), so (gulp) 43 completed votes to date we've had 3 in total. The winners of these have been:

Robbie Morrison
Pete Milligan
Pete Hogan

So it's definitely call yourself Alan {var SecondName$ = InputStr$-1}+n to be in with the best chance.

I think even the most contrary person would struggle to justify a vote against the bearded one. Alan Moore for me.

You know what? I'm going to be contrary.
I've reread Summer Magic more often than any of Moore's work so for that reason alone, I'm voting McKenzie

Don't be a Cosh - if you want to get some last miute votes in to see how I manipulate the lyrics of 'Summer Nights' to work with Summer Magic you'll need to join Daveycandlish now and get your votes in before the morning (Saturday) when voting closes on this one.

So the questio n here isn't who won, it won't be 'Summer Nights' its the fact that to my surprise, even with a clear field the winner doesn't get as many votes as Pat Mills. Now there could be many reasons for this. The tie was always going one way, the gap between the two didn't make it feel worth voting for. Maybe just the time of the week. Either way it may have no bearing on future rounds, but it gave me something to type about here at least. As to absolutely no one surprise

Alan Moore

Storms into the semis

So will it be a semi-final that sees the two old-school titans square off and inflict terrible, grievous wounds upon each other, or will Pat and Alan each take on a new(er)-school foe in a clash of classic vs modern 2000AD? Personally, I'd quite like to see Dan vs Ian, as I'm not sure which way it'd go.
