Or, if he means Pat..

"What great words of wisdom on doing a modern, successful UK anthology comic does the creator of Spacewarp have for us?"

I don't know if Judge Urko means Mark or Pat, but I doubt that Matt Smith needs either of their help after successfully running 2000AD for 22 years now, during which time it has gone from strength to strength.

I'm sure it's a great interview (I've not listened to it yet), but don't let yourself  get carried away to the point where you lose your grasp on reality.

What great words of wisdom about running a successful UK newsstand anthology comic does the man who failed with Clint have for us?

Because Neflix/prime are trash
All media is not trash.
Well, yes, they're trash. All media is essentially trash from Hollywood to Youtube, from novels to music. A high percentage of their content is mediocre at best, with a bit of decent stuff and a pinch of great stuff to make sifting through all the shite worthwhile, if not financially efficient. That seems to be more or less how everything within the fields of human endeavour work; produce as much as possible in the hopes that a sufficient portion will prove profitable enough to offset the losses incurred by the shite. For us peasants, living in sheds and with limited means available to contribute much to this ongoing experiment, other methods of accessing culture are necessary.  *cough*P1R4T3B4Y*cough*

Suggestions / Re: Judge Dredd TV series

Quote from: judgeurko on 29 April, 2024, 02:24:22 PMYes, if it wants to compete with Marvel, Star Wars etc. A big budget for a niche IP.

It's nothing to do with competing with Marvel or Star Wars, it's having a product that one of the major streamers will want to carry. Doesn't matter if it's Netflix, Prime, Paramount, Disney+ or Apple TV, they're not going to look at a genre series like this if it's been made on a shoestring.
Yes it is, naive to think otherwise. The major streamers will look at the stuff 2000AD are trying to do in comparison to what is on other streaming services, Marvel & Star Wars for example. Products don't exist in a vacuum so it does play a part.

Quote from: BadlyDrawnKano on 29 April, 2024, 06:29:49 PMOut of all of them I'd recommend Unbeatable Squirrel Girl the most, I read it during the pandemic and credit it for helping me stay sane(ish) as it has such a wholesome, warm, funny and considerate central sentiment, where Squirrel Girl only ever resorts to violence if she has absolutely no other choice.

Hmmmm do I need something else on the list (to read not this one!)...no... but sounds like...

Quote from: AlexF on Today at 09:56:35 AMEric Powell is an astonishingly good artist. I've not heard of Hillbilly before, seems worth a shot! I was a bit put off The Goon not because any of it wasn't great, but jsut becuase even after like 3 issues I felt I wasn't getting much new out of it. I'd love it if it was five page doses like in 2000AD, but 20+ pages each time of fairly similar stuff wears me down - something to enjoy in small doses!
But spunds as if Hillbilly has more of an overall story to get into?

It did take me a couple of goes to get into The Goon. After a couple of misfires after reading bits and bobs I picked it up in a Humble Bundle and gave it a proper go and by jiggers its is so good.

As for Hillbilly while I don't think it is as good those 12 issues of what was the ongoing are structured as a single story. The early issues do feel a little like monster of the week but its all building up to the end.

I much prefer Murray's cover too. Dredd's bike looks tiny on Bisleys.
