General / Where is my prog 1326?
« on: 05 February, 2003, 04:52:50 PM »
Has anyone else who subscribes not had their prog 1326 delivered. There's everyone raving about it and today it goes on sale to all and sundry in the shops and I'm still waiting for my subscription copy. It's not the first time either!

General / Strontium Dog - Roadhouse

I didn't read 2000AD when Johnny Alpha first appeared in its pages but I quite enjoyed the Kreeler Conspiracy.

So what is going on with Roadhouse? It's just 5 words a page drivel. I know 2000AD is trying to draw in a younger audience again but this is just pap! The whole concept looks like it could have been tied up in a single Future Shock!

General / Who do you rate?
« on: 20 June, 2002, 05:56:13 PM »
Okay, let's get some adult criticism going on this board.

Who do you currently rate both art and script droid-wise in 2K at the current time?

For me, I absolutely loved Kev Walker's old fully-painted work on the ABC warriors but his new black line, computer coloured, muted tone stuff on Sin City is just fantastic. There's definitely a place for both and if economics dictate that fully-painted is out of the question Kev's current stuff will do me just fine. Is it me or is it becoming more minimal?

Script-wise, totally predictable, but John Wagner - again for Sin City. I love these 'steady-growers' of stories. Give me 'Doomsday' or 'Sin City' over 'Helter Skelter' and their ilk any day of the Grud-damn week!

So, over to you guys...

General / Talking of similiarities...
« on: 12 March, 2002, 05:45:36 PM »
I read the message that points out the comparison between Missionary Man and Just a Pilgrim with interest but it's not just Ennis who has ripped off Rennie. Rennie not adverse to a bit of ideas borrowing either.

When Rennie and Abnett (and even Morrison) started writing for Games Workshop's comic a fair few unsubtle strips began to appear...

Exhibit A
Total tank farce Sancho Panzer. Ends up fighting alien worms whose spaceships are even bigger alien creatures. Sounds rather like GW's Tyranids to me.

Exhibit B
Rain Dogs - a not particularly different version of GW's Necromunda background.

Exhibit C
Glimmer Rats - the north of Britain covered by some dimensional leak thing populated by monsters from which souls can never escape... the Realm of Chaos that has swallowed up the North Pole of the Warhammer World in GW.

Exhibit D
It also works the other way around. There was a Durham Red story where Red met, fought and even killed her future self (written by Abnett) then he goes and does *exactly* the same storyline with his character Darkblade in the GW comic.

Exhibit E
Morrison's Vanguard. Battlefleet Gothic, anyone?

Since then others have done it too. The Eastend gangster guy (can't remember his name at the moment) was suspiciously like Darkblade, what with being possessed by a daemon an' all.

But then it's been going on for ages. Witness Kev Walkers and Pat Mills' Imperial Rottweilers and undead Emperor in ABC Warriors Khronicles of Khaos. Nothing at all like Warhammer 40K's Space Marines and Emperor. No, not at all...

There's nothing like cashing in, is there?

General / How was the party?

I'm afraid I couldn't make it last night... Actually, I'm not 'afraid' just totally gutted! How was it?

General / Dredd vs Aliens

I have a feeling that the whole shabang takes place in the Undercity, amidst the ruins of old New York.
