General / Re: Is 2000AD anti-religion.........
« on: 06 December, 2002, 05:12:16 AM »
On a personal note, living in a country that has for decades allowed the main religion to get away with the institutionalized abuse of children (among other serious violations of human rights), I like things that are anti-Christian.
Although straying from that cheerful note, I don't like Pat Mills forcing his 'Paganism rules OK' views down my throat, either. I enjoyed 'The Name of the Sword', but 5000 anti-Christian Mills stories later things got a bit boring.

I never knew it was dead. Last I heard, it was an infinite number of universes theory.

I've noticed LOADS in Preacher, if that's any use to you.

And does nobody call them 'lifts' any more, anyway?

It's like Willy Wonka's Great Glass Elevator, really.

I think I know where you're coming from, but I fear I'm too far gone.

Help! / Locating lost images
« on: 05 December, 2002, 01:25:43 AM »
I asked this question already, but I think it got lost in the swampy recesses of the 'SoWhat do they look like?' thread:
Does anyone know how to locate the URL address of an image attached to someone else's message? Some of the images don't seem to be appearing for me today.
Cheers

Now, I realise this is a bit late and I'm sure I've missed another thread discussing the same thing, but I really, really enjoyed Gordon Rennie's Dredd story about him hitting the boozer on his time off. Just the kind of one-off I like, and one of Mr Rennie's best yet.
That is all.

Yes, and Jonathan Woss has to give his one back as well.

Can I have one?

I always read in on the bus home too, then read it again later and realise I had completely missed the point of most of the stories. On the subject of hangovers, I fended off a wine / Guiness one on Sunday by simply drinking again in the morning. I will not do it again for a long, long time.

What was 'To Thing with Love' about? I remember the name , but not the story. La Placa Rifa was excellent, as was Cardboard City (best line that I didn't get at the time but do now: 'Guess that's how you solve a problem like Maria').
Off the thread's subject, where is Maria now?

Really?
Well, that's my arguement well and truly fecked. In that case, it DID start to go wrong around 700, and I can honestly say that everything I said there was pretty much wrong.
Still, the John Smith stories and Zenith 4 were good. So was the democracy storyline. Other than that, apart from a few whimsical one-offs like Hewligan's Haircut, it wasn't too good after prog 700, just like the man said.
Now I feel a like a proper gimp.

Killing Time and Revere also kept me going through a disappointing era of 2000ad (Ennis and Millar Dredd, Deat Meat, Harlem Heroes).  Although I'm not sure if 2000ad all went wrong around prog 700: Wasn't that before the whole Necropolis lead up and final?, The Horned God, Cinnabar, The Final Solution (well, I liked it), Zenith phase 4, and loads of other decent stories too? Although around Zenith 4 everything else started getting a bit ropey, but I believe got better again eventually.

I think I missed them. Any examples?

Thirty years old? Really? Holy shite.
To elaborate to anyone who hadn't the pleasure of Scojo's company, he was probably this board's most frequent poster a few months back. Although my knowledge of him is sketchy enough, he wrote some not-too-hot Dredd movie scripts, asked for comments on the board, and attacked anyone who dared criticise them. He also often explained how John Wagner should write Dredd. Now I found that quite amusing, and didn't really mind him at all, but then I think he started making some lecherous comments to a female message-poster (if that's the correct term) called Jenny-Mek, which is pretty sad given this new evidence that he was 30 and never met the girl. Although I rarely checked this board at the time, I think that's why he got kicked off it by Wake.
