As Rich Johnston says :-

QuoteAre you a trade-waiter? Even better, do you put off buying a trade paperback or hardcover collection until there's a sale? Then stop what you are doing and clear your shelves. Amazon is blowing out huge amounts of desirable Marvel, new and old, for $14.99 or less a piece – some that haven't even been released yet. When they're gone, they're gone, but this is an incredible opportunity for retailers and customers alike.I've just placed a $500 order and that's the bare minimum I could get away with.

Eve nwit postage to UK adding 50% to price, I just ordered Daredevil Brubaker v2 Omnibus, Powers Definitive v2 + v3, Invincible v1 (800 pages) for £54 delivered. Thats an incredible price !!

General / 2000AD Thread on 11 o'clock comics
03 February, 2010, 01:09:42 PM
Following on from the CBR thread, there is a general enquiry on the 11 0'clock comics forum about how to get into 2000AD etc.

http://bullpenbulletinspodcast.com/forum/index.php?topic=6766.0

I've put down my thoughts & recommended some trades, anyone else want to pile in & let our Yankee cousins in on the thrill ?

(11 o'clock comics is a wonderful comics podcast by the way, well worth listening to).

General / Mark Millar on his 2K work - "pure shite"
05 January, 2010, 02:27:16 PM
Mark Millar on his MillarWorld Forum here :-

http://forums.millarworld.tv/index.php?showtopic=91197

QuoteI had no idea what I was doing for the most part and just learning how to do very basic stuff then. Only good stuff I'd recommend would be Big Dave (which was co-written with Grant Morrison), a few Dredds, a thing called Inferno, maybe Canon Fodder and, uh, that's about it.

Honestly, the bulk of what I wrote was pure shite and I'm not being modest. I didn't really get any good until I started on Swamp Thing in my early twenties. Most of the 2000AD stuff was done when I was 18-21.

QuotePS I didn't write anything like 18000 pages. It was more like 800 pages really. Not that much at all.

PPS Red Razors for the Megazine was pretty good and Insiders for Crisis too. But I never really read or liked 2000AD at that time and had no idea what I was doing. I got into it later when I read some great early Pat Mills stuff, but I mostly wasn't into it at all.

I got £75 in John Lewis vouchers the other day so caved in and bought an 8GB £149 Ipod Touch (mainly so I can watch TV progs on a decent screen on my commute, Mad Men series 3 here I come!).

Looking around for decent free (or otherwise) apps + games, any suggestions ??

QuoteMark Millar plans a 2000AD style anthology comic for the UK. Millar used to write for 2000AD, including the likes of Canon Fodder, Big Dave and The Summer Offensive when, with Grant Morrison, they took over the title for a season annoying and delighting readers in differing measures.

QuoteMurder for ratings? Brazil cops suspect TV host

In one murder after another, the "Canal Livre" crime TV show had an uncanny knack for being first on the scene, gathering graphic footage of the victim.

Too uncanny, say police, who are investigating the show's host, state legislator Wallace Souza, on suspicion of commissioning at least five of the murders to boost his ratings

Surely this was a Wagner Dredd story sometime ??

QuoteAVC: Is there any of your work from the past that you wish had a wider audience today? I ask here out of pure selfishness, since my years of evangelism for Bible John have been met with many blank stares.
GM: Bible John would be good. There aren't many documentary comics like that one around. I'd like the Zenith series to be available. I'd love to have a collection of The New Adventures Of Hitler on my bookshop. The Big Dave strips I did with Mark Millar for 2000 AD are some of my favorites and would make a good, daft book. A lot of that late-'80s/early-'90s non-superhero stuff is missing from my shelves, and it's some of my most interesting, diverse work, I think.
