Because:

a) Andy knows a lot more about the films than John, being something of a fan, IIRC.

b) Lenny Zero rocked!

That works both ways though - for instance, Inferno featured Walter, with no thought for what the character had been up to before this point - indeed there were a number of changes to his character which are completely forgotten (see the Dredd yearbook story where he becomes a successful businessman, only to be ruined by Dredd).  Millar/Morrisons reversion of the character to simpering sidekick ruined the character progression Wagner was doing (hence the throwaway (editorially added?) "and I even came back and saved you in that unlikely piece of crap that was Inferno" line in Giant.

Same with the statue of Judgement, which miraculously travelled across the City to be next to the west wall.  If anyone was sloppy and lazy it was Millar and Morrison.

Thats if these werent editorial additions to ensure some sense of continuity - given that Wagner probably didnt pay much attention to others continuity, its more likely...

I think the story would have been quite effective as a final epilogue to the saga - The Judge Child was a powerful enemy and his rage at being defeated coupled with this was able to pose a threat to Dredd at least.  There was some good imagery in there, especially the idea of a ruined Hall of Heroes - unfortunately, Brashill drew this as one statue with a comedy axe in it!!!  With a classy artist on the case, this could have been great.

I must say this is a lovely little thread (he says in a vain attempt to win favour with Judge PVS) - It's interesting to see people defend the Summer Offensive (although only R&T and Big Dave have had any reasoned argument for the strips worth).

The fact that Millar and Morrison said openly in the comics press of the time that they were taking the piss makes it hard for me to judge these stories objectively.  However Inferno (a by numbers Scharwenegger film by Morrisons own admission) misses the mark by a mile - at best its a poor attempt to emulate a Dredd epic without grasping the subtleties of Dredd; at worst it's a piss take and deliberate attempt to trash the character.

Big Dave could have been funnier if it had been less obvious that you were not supposed to take it seriously.  It wears its bleeding heart liberal "aren't we ironic" heart on its sleeve.  If the strip had been more ambiguous about its real politics it would have been more outrageous and therefore much more funny.  As it was, I found the "we don't really mean this stuff" kinda killoed the whole point of the strip.

I could find a few good words about really & truly, but I defy anyone to come up with a REASONED argument to save Maniac 5...

Maniac 5 should also be hauled up before the court - I'm a gonna try again with Dinosty...

This was Pats last hurrah IMO.  The idea of the dinosaurs being treated as royalty and humans fighting over the honour of being eaten by their masters was perfect 2000AD material: subversive and satirical.  I thought it was very funny, with the human hockey game, Chameleongate etc.  A much better satire than BLAIR 1, which deserves the chair in Dinosty's place.  It certainly had its faults, but was a fantastic idea.

If Ezquerra is unavailable, may I be so bold as to suggest Colin MacNeil as a most worthy stand in for the cover duties...

Sounds like a great line up - the only questions I have are:

Will the Strontium Dog volume get a new cover courtesy of Ezquerra??

And when can we see The Killing/Kid Knee/Moses Incident follow up volume 2?

And surely the defence has to be sustainable in a court of law.  If I was to say that Millars Robohunter was a sublime pastiche on contempory morality, sprinkled with a smidgeon of ironic gore and classic post-modern anti-heroism, I'd surely be talking out of my arse?

Dont listen to the Scojo, PVS - Hendral the Psi elf is another one of his flights of fancy

Obviously my defence of Dinosty wasn't spirited enough! :)

What I'd say on the list is all Fleischer Rogue and all Millar Robohunter, just to make matters clear - Parasites is a follow up to Wireheads, so I'd put those together and the Grudgefather needs to be added as well - I also thought someone said nice things about Dead Meat (although personally i hate the art - this was the Post-Bisley period where they were employing everyone with the name Simon in the hope of repeating the Bisley effect...

Your not having Helltrekkers on the list - this was a brilliant little idea for a strip - I have fond memories of crossing off the casualties from the poster that listed all of the Trek members.  I also dont think Dinosty deserves a worst place spot.  It was PAts last good original idea.  The execution left something to be desired, and in the end it just became another pagan rant, but it had some genuinely funny stuff in it. I also thought the same about quite a few of the post Horned God Slaines - good idea, clumsy realisation.  However the French one and The Secret Commonwealth are poor, but not in comparison with the Mark Millar and Fleischer stuff.

The rest of your list can go on without any question from me.

And another question just struck me - who's going to be doing the art for the CD covers - 2000AD regulars or somebody/thing different?
