Other Reviews / Devlin Waugh: Red Tide collection
17 April, 2005, 07:51:36 PM
I've just been reading the Red Tide GN book - and there's some shocking text ommissions in the Sirius Rising story... panels that don't have speech bubbles in them anymore!

So I've had to dig out the relevent progs to fill in the gaps in speech...

As I only noticed this late in the story, I don't know if there are any other missing speech bubbles earlier. They seem to be at the beginning of episodes, where the "Devlin Waugh" logo & episode data have been removed.

General / Reb trades, easy as ABC..?
14 April, 2005, 05:16:51 PM
Just pondering...

The ABC Warriors book 2 'The Black Hole' is due sometime soon, but there's been no hint of any Nemesis books.  Surely putting out the Nemesis stories that lead up to 'The Black Hole' first would be something of a sensible idea?

No?

Books & Comics / A History Of Violence
11 March, 2005, 06:43:51 PM
A History Of Violence by John Wagner & Vince Locke.

Hot diggery DAMN! that's good.

I've read it before (borrowed it off W.R.Logan a couple of years ago), but I've just read it again and want to say that it is brilliant.
Although 'hard to find' almost applies to this book, the New & Used section of Amazon has it new & for ?4.50 - so I ordered it.

Read it all in one go late last night - I only meant to quickly read the first few pages as a taster before I got around to reading the whole thing, but I just couldn't put the book down.
Although I didn't immediately like Vince Locke's artwork in the opening 2-3 pages (it has a kind of 'scrappy' or 'done-in-biro' look to it not dis-similar to Eddie Campbell's art in 'From Hell') but I was so totally drawn into the story that I ceased to notice this very quickly - in fact it adds to the grittyness of the piece (again, same thing happened with 'From Hell').

The story flows seamlessly through the three acts constantly building up and up on the drama, the tension, the history and the violence. All the characters are very believable, and the small town atmosphere is captured perfectly.
If there was ever a comic book screaming out to be turned into a film then this is it - fortunate then that David Cronenberg is already on the case (a trip to www.imdb.com shows that Viggo Mortensen has got the lead part of 'Tom Stall' - curiously as it was Tom McKenna in the comic! I wonder why the change? Also, on a side note - I was at school with a Tom McKenna. He was Canadian).

I would advise trying to keep SPOILERS off this thread, if possible people.

General / Mutant nose?
17 February, 2005, 10:36:48 PM
I've been reading some Star Lords recently - and looking back to how Johnny Alpha looked originally compared to how he's drawn now - is it just me, or is the nose different?

Now he looks like a normal bloke with weird eyes (ie put on some shades and hey presto! no one knows he's a mutant.
But originally, he had a very tall, squarish nose - was this a mutation? Or just a long nose?

He definitely looked uglier back then, anyway.

3.Dankell & Noisybast? +Trout(ish), J-Bo + others?
4.Rac+Bill, Dankell, & Trout (DXB in background)

Off Topic / Self-referencing songs?
09 February, 2005, 10:28:56 PM
Brain teasers for y'all...

Can you think of songs that name-check the title of another song by the same band?

e.g.
"Laid" by James has a line about "coming home"
"Bicycle Race" by Queen has a line about "Fat bottomed girls"

My brother & his wife have just had a baby boy!

Poor little mite's 6 weeks early though, and will have to stay in an incubator for a few weeks.

He's tiny, only 4lbs something.

But I'm sure he'll be tough, with a name like Joe.

Mentally depraved freako creep living in the sewers underground kills people....

Not too bad a film, pretty thought provoking & lots of moments to hide your eyes behind your hands.

But the thing did look a bit like MC-1's Creep, IMO.http://www.2000adonline.com/images/character/creep.jpg">

Iron Maiden have re-released 'The Number of the Beast'
If it gets to number one this week (ie. go & buy it y'all) it will be the 999th number one single, which would be the number of the beast upside down.

General / 2000AD Sci-fi Fantasy Football 2005
09 December, 2004, 07:23:48 AM
NEW LEAGUE: 2005 JUST GOT BETTER.

...as brought to you by Top Bitch ukdane & his zombie sidekick Dead Oddboy...

2005's league will be more indepth & complex - you will have to choose 11 characters/artists/writers (keeping to the price allocation) to form a super-group of 2000AD stars for you to score points with.

Wake (in a moment of sheerblindfoolishmadness) has agreed to webhost the 2005 league on THIS WEBSITE - so now you don't even have to leave here to play! (Link below - it's also in the FAN ZONE section on the sidebar menu.)

READ THE RULES CAREFULLY
ADD UP YOUR TEAM CORRECTLY
ENJOY
(...and hope and pray that ukdane can get his new database system working bug-free by January!)

General / 2005 Sci-Fi & Fantasy League: JOIN IN NOW!
25 November, 2004, 03:39:22 PM
Okay folks...

I've been running the Sci-Fi & Fantasy League for two years now... and time has come to prepare for next year's game.
A perfect time for newbies to join in.

You've all heard of Fantasy Football League, yes? Well it's like that. Each player has a Script Droid, an Art Droid and a Character each. Every prog or meg that they appear in scores you a point.
...and what do points mean?  The lucky winner gets a prize: the Rebellion GN of your choice.
Nick_Coyle, winner of the 2003 League, chose Necronauts - what would you choose? [rhetorical question]

So what do I want you to do?

At the moment, just add a post to this thread to confirm you want in.  Anyone posting to the thread will be entered, even if you're just here to slag me off & make sarcastic remarks.

Don't lay claim to any droids or characters yet, they will be assigned to you in due time.

Not sure what it's all about? Follow the link for the results so far...
