If it's any consolation, I bought a book in a charity shop a few years ago called The Book of Predictions - published in 1980, it featured essays by various scientists and writers trying to predict the next 50-70 years.
It was so absurd as to be quite quaint - most of them thought we'd all be living in a nuclear wasteland by now.
