If you remember when Future Shocks used to be good, you'll like this.

I remember when Future Shocks used to be good, but didn't like this.

eh? thats not really a future shock is it?

It might have worked in Deadline. It's a decent effort, IMO.

Generally Contrary

In a completely unconnected event, the world blows up.

Not bad.  Wasn't the president who ordered the nuclear strike in "Kingdom Come" drinking out of a cup that also said "World's Greatest Dad" though?  Must admit, that niggled me a bit- mainly because I remember stupidly obscure things like that.  You could have borrowed the entire story and I wouldn't notice- but the 'details'...

It wasn't very future shock-ish to me, but I still liked it.  John was indeed having a shitty (and believable) day...

Not bad at all.

Pffft...

Trout

A "World's Greatest Dad" mug featured in the Invisibles.

The drug Key 23, which makes you believe you're seeing anything you read, was injected into the evil monster woman and the mug held up in front of her.

Then, IIRC, they gave her a right shoeing.

ISTR it's been used as a juxtapositional or emotive device in a number of films and comics, though I can't remember any more examples at the moment (sure there was one in the Sopranos though).

Generally, it appears in scenes where we're introduced to some, like, utterly evil dude , or when a father character has died a horrible death.
